I think you are right. Society does put that pressure on men, absolutely. He also supported me physically and emotionally, like you said before. I also support him emotionally better now than when I was younger. I've enjoyed our conversation since I love other perspectives; it is how we learn and become better people. To me it comes down to: treat others the way you want to be treated.

I see what you are talking about a lot of tv. I never agreed with my friends when they were looking to divorce and tried hard to talk them out of it, since kids were involved. Men still often make more money than women, and women have the children, so there is a problem right there with the same amount of women being breadwinners. My father was very ill most of his life and my mother never left. The one left behind is the one I feel sorry for. Edit: but you are right. we have been married a very long time. Husband would choose me over the kids, but I would pick the kids. It took him a long time to come to terms with that.

We just saw the movie, Knock at the Cabin, where one has to sacrifice. I would sacrifice myself over him. The kids (grown) rely on him more. Out of the two of us, he's the one that needs to live. Maybe I'm odd, since I don't have this discussion with my friends. I would absolutely die for him in a heart beat. Edit: We have discussed this before and he knows how I feel.

I thought maybe men are more effective at getting it done and that would partly explain the disparity between attempted suicide reports. I never considered them not reporting so that's interesting to consider. Like not reporting rapes as well?

Can you explain? For me it's about choice. Have kids or don't. breastfeed or don't. equal pay. She can work and the man stay home. Let them do sex work if they want. It's supporting other women in their choices and not tearing them down. For me it has little to do with men, and maybe that is bothersome? It's unfortunate that is vilified now.
