Was also told by a lady friend in the medical field that one of the main things about the warm weather cooling these things off is that we essentially spend less time huddled together in close quarters, when people hangout outside instead of in bars/cafes, walk places instead of getting on public transport etc.

There were still great numbers of nomadic and settled tribes well into the middle ages, really not very long ago, everywhere bar western/central Europe and the mediterranean, which were also mostly tribal prior to the Roman Empire.
