Thank you for your service. I know I’m officially old when not only do I still not understand tiktok, I don’t understand how they are monetizing it.

I think one of the posts here awhile back said something like, “a man isn’t competing with other men, he’s competing with my peace and solitude.” That really resonated with me, because I am pretty content on my own. So now that’s my philosophy — does he bring more enrichment and happiness than I can find on my own? No? Then goodbye.

I saw a comment here or on some other like-minded sub that pointed out the whole concept of “daddy issues” shames women for having shitbag dads (or lack thereof). Broke my brain a bit. Then I got mad. It’s always somehow our faults, isn’t it. Edit: Found the post!

The only problem with this logic is that at least one study demonstrated the man was 7 times more likely to leave the woman if she got seriously ill. One study from 2009 found the strongest predictor for separation or divorce for patients with brain cancer was whether or not the sick person was a woman. That same study showed that men were seven times more likely to leave their partner than the other way around if one of them got brain cancer. Source 1 Men tend to be less emotionally resilient t…

I think it’s the same group of Redditors who bring up Amber Heard whenever possible — sometimes on entirely unrelated topics. Yes, what she did was awful. No, it doesn’t mean you can discredit an entire gender. We certainly don’t do it on the reverse, hmmmmmm? These same fine folks weren’t on team “throw the whole gender out” when Epstein was the topic du jour, for example? 🧐 Now they’re gonna go after Jada for awhile on their “women ain’t shit” crusade.

if you can't be happy alone no one will ever love you Hmm, that’s not exactly what I said though, is it? I am sorry if you took it that way, but that is not at all my point. Of course people will still love you, everyone is worthy of love — but you asked how to not be a pickmeisha. I gave you my thoughts. Your situation is really rough though, and probably beyond the tailored focus of FDS; I hope you can find a solid support network and maybe look at therapy if you can. There is a lot to unpack …

There will be people here with much better advice than mine, but I will just say this: you need to be happy and satisfied with yourself first. That’s it. That’s the whole secret to self-worth. The actual achievement of this is the hard part. Your lack thereof is leading you to try and seek it externally. You want someone to validate you, and you’ll do whatever they need in desperation of that. Just describing yourself as “worthless” in your comment is evidence enough. I doubt you’re actually wor…

I have several friends who married their “first child.” I am thrilled you escaped before you were stuck. Most of them are now resentful, realizing they couldn’t “change” him like they thought they were gonna magically accomplish after the wedding. My mom was the example of that — my dad, bless him, will work hard on fixing up stuff around/outside of the house, but my mom still does the majority of cooking / cleaning / bill paying / grocery-shopping / child-rearing / household management / emotio…

Yea, but then look how she and Desi handled Fred/Ethel’s characters: At an early rehearsal, Vance confided to Ball that Frawley was too old to play her husband. "Nobody will believe I'm married to that old goat," she said to Lucy. There was a 22-yr age gap between Vivian Vance and William Frawley — perhaps purposefully, they did like to play up the differences between the two couples for comedic effect.

I am so happy you got away from this control freak 🙏 So many don’t. There’s a thread over on WomenAdvice about a 21-yr-old woman wanting to move away for the true college / life experience, and her 24-yr-old live-in bf sounds controlling and doesn’t want her to go; no shit, you started dating her when she was 18 — of course you don’t want her seeing the rest of the world beyond the little bubble you keep her in, bro. The comments were so coddling to his ‘needs’ and calling her selfish. I couldn’…

I have so many friends who married “project” husbands with this wishlist of what they want him to transform into after marriage. Lolololol. I don’t understand the cognitive dissonance of thinking someone will grow up after marriage. They are who they are. Out of the...four-ish friends that I can think of who did this, maybe one of them managed to get him to start cleaning and cooking and helping out more; the other three have turned resentful while they still carry most of the work.

The ‘one that got away’ for me was about 7-8 years older. I have never deeply connected with someone like I did him. He truly loved me, but cut me loose because he said I would have to make all the sacrifices for us to be together, and I “would grow to resent him,” and he didn’t want to do that to me. (We had different life situations where I would be giving up the dream job, in the dream city, as well as the travel-filled life I envisioned, due to some complicating factors.) He was totally righ…
