Australia is generally socially a few years ahead of the US on most things (abortion /marriage laws/equality/voting). The Aussie feminists I've met are all wildly manhating, while being in one of the most privileged countries in the world for being a woman (we aren't rolling back dei like the US either). Point of the engineering comparison was addressing the bias in pay based on profession which is the largest contributed factor to a non-controlled wage bias other than hours worked. The whole pay gap thing is a meme. Controlled wages last time I checked women earn 99c to $1 men earn, and the differential on that is agreeableness. Most studies done for the pay gap often leave out critical data to create a bias (hours worked is a huge one). Sorry this is just a point I've seethed about for awhile cause it gets pushed.
