Relationships are a negotiation that requires willingness and flexibility. Hopefully the person you marry w will check all your boxes. But probably not. As long as s/he checks boxes like _ navigates disagreement without disrespect, _ shares their emotions including vulnerable ones and takes an interest in yours, _ has the adulting habits that predict a healthy and prosperous life and avoids aaalll the bad habits that don't, and _ puts no one, often not even himself, before you. You can partner h…

As your kids get older and they need you less, cultuvate something meaningful for yourself that makes you feel consistently productive, getting more involved in charity work, going back to school ... Something you can build an identity around, because "Mr. Money's Wife" isn't gonna cut it.

Well 11 years will fly by, believe me. I'm a psychotherapist and the empty nest identity crisis is real for SAH parents.

Sounds like your kids would benefit from learning to entertain themselves (without screens obviously).

Imo is better to develop a good career and work. Otherwise you run the risk of feeling trapped if the relationship goes south. Because you kind are.

Gel manicures and pedicures. Totally worth the money.

56F here. Yes, age, but also body shape. After about age 30, the two are correlated. Women start gaining visceral (torso) fat and that just accelerates with time. But if they keep their weight down and stay active, they can (usually) retain a youthful body shape that men still find attractive. Source: men I've dated, my age and younger, who've appreciated this about me.

Well they have to be your favorite person in the world. If not, move on. They also have to not engage in any of Gottman's Four Horsemen when there's conflict.

I wouldn't say that. I'm about to give it 5 minutes on double speed and if I'm hooked it's only another 30.

If someone likes you you'll know it. If you feel confused, they don't really like you, no matter what they say.

Apparently they think people should think your partner is hot. Maybe you're invested in that too, which is fine if you are. But as I see it, the only person who matters when it comes to opinions about your partner's hotness is you.

Wow. Maybe consider finding more mature friends? That's not okay!

I think a good definition of emotional intimacy is a mutual interest in what it's like to be each other and willingness to share what it's like to be us. (A lot of men aren't good at either of those things and that may be one reason 70% of divorces are initiated by women.) Good luck.

Girl, I know! In my teens I had a poster of Ted Turner in my room. And now in my 50's I find men in their 20's attractive. Go figure.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
