It amounts to over 3.3 million people in the US, roughly the population of Utah or Iowa or Nevada. It's more people than get diagnosed with cancer (2.2 million), or die of heart attacks (695,000), stroke (159,000), gun deaths (48,000), and car crashes (43,000) a year.
