Thanks for replying, I might've given these downvotes undeserved consideration if they weren't accompanied by rants worthy of 13 year olds. You really take the cake in that category, by the way. I don't think I could've written something dumber if I was trying as a parody.

You never had an argument, you child. You had to resort to calling me sexist the minute I poked your flimsy excuse for a thought process, intentionally misrepresenting the very simple concepts I brought up in a three sentence comment. You might be more secure in your ideas if you started to treat them as more than an excuse to lash out. It's very much possible to die never having grown up, so I suggest you get to it. Bye.

... And you just went deeper. Your logic is no different from the feminists you despise, you even go as far as to justify your lack of coherence by pointing to theirs. Sorry, but that's just plain wrong, on many levels. I hope you do a lot more thinking on this, have a good day.

Yeah no, you went full group identity politics there. I expect better from a movement that's supposed to see the deep flaws in feminism. Women as a group cannot and will not be held accountable for anything, they're a demographic. Plenty of us men as individuals can take constructive action in our own social environment, and if you think for a second that you're excused from doing that because others are destructive then I think bitterness is clouding your judgement in that respect.

Ok, hold it. It's not a fucking tribal war, let's not be children here. Do you doubt that men and women have to work together to maintain a habitable society? What are you going for, exactly? Will you refuse to fix something broken simply because "they started it"? Come on now.

Let me get this straight, your story is that you created it, lost interest, abandoned it and didn't delete it not once but three times with different subs. Then your "loss of interest" led to you shutting it down the minute it got posts AND sitting on it like a stubborn child when asked to hand it over to someone intent on using it. Sub squatting is pretty dishonest in and of itself, but man you're full of shit. Throwing a tantrum when called out on it, too... are you the guardian of moral usage…

Eh. I see what you're getting at, but you're making a lot of effort to ignore the source of most misandry today. I'm not gonna claim most feminists are bad people, but I'll say this: Most feminists hold deluded views that come directly into conflict with the spirit of this sub. It's just part of the doctrine. E: Just wanted to clarify, the OP reads weird and a bit confrontational to me as well. But that's not in the post, it's just how we're reading it.

You're onto something important there, it just doesn't reinforce your original idea. We can agree that the particular woman's self-designation is anecdotal, but most could also agree she probably considers herself a feminist. Her way of thinking doesn't exist in isolation from feminism. But your main point isn't (shouldn't be) whether or not she's a feminist. It's that she's a silly marker to exacerbate and measure feminism by. We contend with the strongest possible version of the idea, not th…

How to approach depends on interpersonal stuff we don't know. You be the judge of that. That said, if he put it out there, that's because he'd be okay with you talking to him about it if that's what you feel you have to do. It can be depressing to watch a heartfelt message like this get lost in the noise of social media, so definitely reach out if your intentions are to make him feel understood. Be sincere, keep it simple.

I'll take a second to clue you in on something. Not interested in arguing with you whatsoever, so don't bother. When you accuse a person, or especially a group with distinctly non-partisan goals and views, of being "alt right", all you're doing is showing your own tribalism and ignorance. The term has been abused into worthlessness, it's not used by anyone in any context except in the exact kind of offhand, baseless, intellectually dishonest dismissal that is your comment.

Sorry to hear that. I'm here to tell you never to give up on the truth. We can be wrong, and flawed, we can be outnumbered and defeated. But in yourself you have a sanctuary to your own convictions that no one can ever take away. Never let a pathological society gaslight you. Might be a weird place for it, but I'll borrow someone else's words here because I've always found them inspiring and true. Here: Doesn't matter what the press says. I don't think they are wrong, if I've implied that, that's a mistake. I think it's a failed manner of operating These are the same thing, when it comes down to it. Or at least, that's what I was referring to. But as I said, some people are more neurotic by nature, and I don't mean that's what they've been taught, I mean that's how they are. And the proof that being neurotic works is in the fact that those people exist. Ineffective traits are filtered out over time. To your point, life in general…

I don't think anyone here was talking about physical appearance remarks, but that's not the point. What you're saying is a product of your temperament bias. Your way works for you, sticks and stones, etc, so you think anyone sensitive enough to be hurt by words is wrong. Not the case. Temperamental variation is a product of natural selection just like everything else we're born with. And yes, we are born with a temperament. The answer isn't "teach all people not to be assholes", nor is it "teach…

Oh, I see where you went wrong. See, you don't want to speak out when someone insults men in public. That excludes you from conditioning against speaking out. Not only is he not speaking for all men, he's implicitly not speaking about you. If you were inclined to speak out when someone insults men, you'd get conditioned just like he says men are. Even if you turned out to be exceptionally courageous or persistent, you alone wouldn't be proof that such conditioning doesn't exist or that it doesn'…

Yep, I know firsthand that if you can sit down a feminist and explain to them how occupational gender differences maximize in progressive societies you can blow their mind. It goes directly against a lot of what they think they know about the world.

Nah man, you just don't like women. And I'm anti-feminist as fuck. If you're confused about the gap between what I was saying and what you decided to add, I was just relaying what's been scientifically found through studies. You were giving your personal interpretation of whatever anecdotal experiences you've had. With an attitude that speaks volumes.

Women are out looking for men to support them maybe. I cant think of a reason why a woman wouldnt go i to computer science It's well documented that temperamental differences make women more interested in "people" jobs like nursing and men more interested in "thing" jobs like software development. We know exactly why it happens, that's the thing. People who cry oppression either haven't found out, or don't want to.

You're too quick to jump to anti-semitism, can't have a discussion like that. I don't care what religion it is, none should have the right to mutilate a baby's penis. Practice your faith in a way that's less dumb and dangerous. The fact that they've kept that right so far into history, is a testament either to their influence, or the influence of religion in general on legislation, and either way I think it's wrong.

You appear to favor using government muscle against the citizenry to achieve your ends as a first-order tactic. That is textbook leftism. Wow. Pretty fucking delusional. Way to cherrypick your facts. People on the right tend to be richer, precisely because of the same temperamental differences that make the left prioritize the poor.

Why don't you try to prove yourself right, which is standard in every sane context, and we can start with that? I know why. Because your demand makes no sense and there's no reasonable amount of "proof" you could present one way or the other. Here's a form of sexism that doesn't exist against women in the west: The kind where your entire society attacks you relentlessly and does everything to silence you just for pointing out you're the victim of sexism. In all their privilege, men apparently do…

I'm a regular on the sub, because I believe in what it stands for. You're just so blinded by tribalism you can't process criticism unless it's framed as coming from some "other side". Frankly, it's pathetic. you went from 'team boys' to 'feminists are dumber' These are the same thing. I pointed out the content is irrelevant, overly confrontational, and presented in an immature way, and your response was basically "they started it". I'll give you it's largely due to income distribution. But it's not not sexism. You could easily argue about it, and it depends on how you define sexism. The sign seems like a joke, so I don't see the point in coming down on it. But we could agree there's several bad circumstances that give it context.

That argument relies on the assumption that people will stop doing things just cause they're not contractually obligated to. Which they might, but as an assumption it's unhealthy as fuck. You can't systemically enforce health, some people making bad choices doesn't mean people shouldn't be able to choose.

If a man explains something condescendingly to another man, it's just a condescending explanation. If a woman explains something condescendingly to another woman, it's just a condescending explanation. If a woman explains something condescendingly to another man, it's just a condescending explanation. Read a debate on any forums where there's no disclosure of gender, and plenty of people still explain things in a patronizing, condescending, or even insulting tone. It's still just a condescending…

It's pointless discussing this here "gender aside". The double standard is the only part that's relevant to the subreddit. Personally (and totally off topic, as I said) I think we're way too uptight about dead bodies. I don't know if laughing at one is a good thing or not, but I definitely don't think it should carry jail time for anyone. It's almost like they become a bigger deal once they're not the vessel for a human consciousness anymore. A dead body is just an object, and I think it'd be he…

Sure it's a common trait, but it's not part of masculinity. Older men don't define masculinity for me. Emotional distance is a misguided part of their attempts at achieving masculinity, just like abusive use of authority is a misguided part of the army culture's attempt at achieving discipline and strength. It's also not "an attack on my team", but it is kind of an attempt to put me on a team with people I don't like. It's not that I feel attacked by the concept of "toxic masculinity" - it's tha…

So being aggressive, a risk taker, stoic, and emotionally distant. These are not manly things? Some of them can be, they're not masculine by default. aggressive, a risk taker, stoic These can be manly or unmanly, it depends on the circumstance and the motivation. If you stand by while someone you love suffers abuse, that can be called 'stoic' - and it's not manly to me. But it could be manly to ignore provocations into a pointless fight, for example, and that's also stoic. emotionally distant Ju…

Their nature. Their instincts, unconscious behavior. Not the decisions they make. You could argue about things like attitude, or the roles they fall into, for example - to me, that can be on either side of the line. It's a vague and arguable term, but there are some things that it's clearly not. Simply put, I get to choose whether I want to be an asshole. I don't get to choose how masculine I am.

The loops you're taking to misconstrue my point honestly baffle me, I'm just gonna assume it's intentional if you keep it up. We should not simply ignore these. I never proposed we ignore them. You're establishing a false dichotomy where if you don't call them "toxic masculinity", you're ignoring them. The name simply doesn't apply, they're expectations about masculinity. Not part of masculinity itself. They're not even held by men exclusively or primarily. As for not understanding the term I un…

I'm honestly not sure you even read my comment. I'm saying the better way to address this is to stop adhering to the "traditional" or "toxic" definition of masculinity altogether. It's pointless to force this distinction between toxic and non-toxic masculinity, when none of the toxic parts are inherently a part of masculinity. You don't even need a new term, you can just call it toxicity. Or "being a violent asshole", to give you a more narrow example - neither of which reinforce the perceived r…
/r/MensRights05/09/17 03:43 PM

Also, it's just inaccurate. What's toxic isn't masculinity, not even a particular form of it. It's the labeling of violence, inconsideration, emotional repression, etc as being masculine. So the term itself is a perfect example of the problem.
