Perhaps the article was actually meant to be ironic, as she starts with the argument that men should not pay, and then gives seven weak reasons (compared to the earlier part of her article, the latter part is suspiciously weak) why men should pay. By ironic, I mean voicing the opposite of what you mean, the sarcasm/irony way of irony. After I reread the article in a sarcastic tone, it made a lot more sense to me.

I think the article was meant ironically, as in the dictionary definition of the word. The author tried to defend her initial argument ("Why should having a willy mean you have to open your wallet? No, the dudes should definitely NOT have to pay for dinner.") by elaborating on the stupidity of the counter-argument ("Whether it's goddessing ourselves into Nigella Lawson or losing five kilos on the "Michelle Bridges" or "rewarding" ourselves with a $70 Diptyque candle or accumulating a shelf load …

Aren't those covers designed by people who barely know what the book is about? Then again, the comic ignores that there are quite some dexterious heroes in comics (not to speak of anime) and that her taste is not representable for all women.
