I’d assume the 10/10 women who are more entertaining have stable boyfriends and are single less often. While 5/10 women who are entertaining are still less likely to be single than 5/10 who aren’t, but much more likely to be single than 10/10 entertaining women.

But when you analyze this data, you have a set methodology. You aren't just clicking on posts and screenshotting the comments that stick out to you. You probably have broken down the data like “x percent of comments from likely men can be categorized as this, while y percent can be categorized as this.” If I made any incorrect assumptions, let me know. I don't know much about your field, but it sounds really cool.

I explained why Instagram in particular can easily falsely lead to the impression that something was en masse when it was not in the previous comment. Though the problem with using social media as data in general is that it's super easy to cherry pick data without realizing it, unless you create rules for yourself when gathering the data. The crazier comments stick out more. This is something that comes up in this sub a lot, where someone will claim “Most of ___ gender said this in the post last…

I didn't see it was from Instagram, as the link with the screenshots was from twitter and I wasn't being particularly observant this morning. Instagram is even worse in some ways. It lists comments based on how likely you are to engage with them (you, the individual) often resulting in two people who can read 20+ comments that are totally different from each other and tell totally different stories on what society is like. The example could easily be less than 1% of the Instagram comments on tha…

You aren't using reliable sources. You're discussing what people commented on twitter, which is infamous for being a cesspool, especially now. Also, if anyone is curious about the specific data for the poll (since I think people only linked a news article talking about the poll last time) here it is. https://static1.squarespace.com/static/696636c9153d34293993ce28/t/69e23fda05517c57356f8d0c/1776435162806/NS%2BTables.xlsx

“ That implies that anyone could will themselves into sexual activity.” Similarly, not everyone can will themselves to lose weight. There are health conditions that make losing weight near impossible. But one would still consider weight a changeable trait, even before Ozempic.

“Women prefer to attack immutable characteristics.” Disagree. When attacking other women, they don’t insult someone’s bone structure, they’re much more likely to call someone a slut or fat. I think a conclusion that would make more sense to draw would be that women are less when immutable traits are attacked, and more when non-immutable traits are attacked, and vice versa for men.

The stereotype I know of is that the man cheats on his wife, but once she discovers him cheating he says he still wants to be with her too, he just wants to open up the relationship. And then she divorces him asap.

Okay, thank you. This is something I had no idea on. I do think when safe haven boxes are used it usually makes the news, so if the father is in contact with mother and knows about the existence of the child, and then the child suddenly disappears, he could possibly (probably?) find the child and gain custody.

“The woman can use safe heaven laws basically at any time with in the birth window since she can just not sign that the father is the father.” Can she legally do that if she knows who the father is? If the father reclaims the baby before the waiting period for formalizing the adoption is up, would she still have to pay child support? I don’t know the answers to these questions, but if you know (and aren’t just making an educated guess) could you cite a source?

A couple of different ways, but I don’t have survey numbers (hence why I chose the word many instead of most, since I’m not sure if it was most or not). I’ve met many people GenX or older that believe that bisexual men don’t exist. I haven’t met any GenZers or younger millennials who believe this (though surely some exist). Unless those GenXers I know used to believe men could be bisexual and then the GenXers changed their minds, this would indicate more adults believe that bisexuality exists in…

No, I was saying that in 2016 (which is the most recent source anyone cited), many people thought men couldn’t be bi, but were either straight or gay. Therefore, if a man had sex with a man, many would assume he was gay. “This is semantics the result is the same.” People don’t want to have sex with someone who isn’t sexually attracted to them, even if they’re attracted to them. I’d imagine that far more women would date a man who is bi in 2026, since more people know that men can be bi. While th…

It actually hasn’t gotten much worse recently except among republicans. For example, 2023 was the high for percent of people in US who believed same-sex marriage should be legal, at 71%. As of may 2025, it was at 68% (so only slightly worse, not much worse). But 2022 was the high for republicans, at 55%. It is now down to 41%. https://news.gallup.com/poll/691139/record-party-divide-years-sex-marriage-ruling.aspx

The source specifically said that 63% of women would not date a man who had sex with another man. That isn’t the same as women finding men who had sex with men unattractive. In 2016, less people believed that men could be bi. The linked article even speculates that the reason why 63% of women would not have sex with a man who had sex with another man is because people see men as either being straight or gay. Now, it’s fairly accepted among younger generations that men can be bi, though I definit…

On the one hand, as you explained it, “financial celibacy” sounds pretentious and in practical. Do people following this internet trend never buy gifts for the person they’re dating? Do you just guess how the financial stuff will work after you get married? But I think it’s completely reasonable for dates to be split about 50-50. Or take turns, or have one person pay for food and another person pay for events. Women don’t have to spend more money or time on beauty products than men, they choose …

“Attracting a straight woman isn’t anywhere near the same as attracting a gay or bi woman.” Not sure how old you are, but 20% of GenZ women survey as bi. Therefore, advice from women who date women should be helpful for at least that 20% by your logic.

“They only tend to like specific hobbies “ There was a survey a year ago where women were asked if they found different hobbies attractive or unattractive in men. While 61.8% chose unattractive for video games, that means 38.2% chose the attractive option for video games. https://datepsychology.com/the-most-and-least-attractive-male-hobbies/ So that somewhat matches with what you said. “I can think of two times since my birth where a woman has said she likes short guys. They can both be guilty here without being equally guilty. If NSA stands for “no strings attached” that’s not how it works with power imbalance here. They could think he’d fire them, even if he says he won’t. So he’s being more unethical here, though both parties are behaving unethically.

If they’re a devout Catholic who doesn’t want to have premarital sex, wants to raise any future kids Catholic, and has trans friends, they might filter out a lot of people and still have a really hard time finding someone even when there’s a gender balance in their favor.

How am I spin doctoring the numbers? At the time covered in the study, if you were to pick 100 people with autism diagnoses 80 would be male. Therefore, you’d expect 80% of children murdered with autism diagnoses during this time range to be male. Your study shows a slightly higher amount than 80%. It does not show that autistic men have a significant disadvantage over autistic women. I care about autistic men and am open to reading other studies on this, but the study you cited does not show wh…

“There’s a lot of data that shows the large majority of married men want to be more involved with their children’s lives.” To match your argument, the data has to specifically show that considerably more married men say they want to be more involved with their children’s lives than unmarried men do. Logically, this is probably the case, but a lot of people want to do things, but never actually go through with them, so I’m interested in seeing the actual numbers here.

You can’t extrapolate this study to adults because in the study you gave, parents were the murderers in 63.5% of cases. The study already had a small sample size, so if you were just looking at the numbers for non-parent killers, the sample size is less than 20, which is incredibly small. Also, it’s hard to extrapolate as a lot of people with ASD would have been considered to have Asperger’s for most of the time frame studied, which makes the studies methodology flawed, as they did not search th…

I’ve known two different people who were placed with a crazy mother during a custody dispute despite wanting to be with their dads because the judge believed “children shouldn’t be separated from their mothers.” Both judges were men, and at least one of them was conservative in other ways. The people who are willing to date a serial killer are usually already very mentally ill and socially isolated. Making their lives worse would not make them like serial killers less, having better access to psych medicine would.

Thank you for providing a source. Your study seems to only cover people under 20. During most of the 2000-2019 time frame, the diagnosis ratio by gender for autism was 4:1. So you’d expect 80% of children with autism killed to be boys. 90% is still higher than you’d expect, but male children are also slightly more likely to get murdered than female children. I don’t think you can extrapolate to adults with autism from this study.

I have unconditional love for my siblings. But that’s not a romantic love. Romantic love for me is heavily linked in how much I enjoy spending time with someone, which in turn is linked to how much I enjoy talking to them (also kindness, though). I don’t think icks are usually used that way. What you’re describing is how I think people generally use “We just didn’t vibe” or something like that. They lose interest, but due to the lack of interest from the other person. “If the ratio isn’t as skewed on Hinge, then why do male users still experience just as much rejection.” I’m not sure how you’re measuring rejection here, which makes it hard to speculate on reasons (is every left swipe on Tinder considered a rejection, or only people who match with you and ghost?). The other thing is, changing the ratio doesn’t necessarily change how selective women are in the initial stages of dating.

Hinge doesn't have quite the same disparity. Hinge is about 2:1 men to women, while Tinder is 3:1. So the "hook-up app" explanation is a factor, though not the main one. Like other people said, worrying about safety for meeting someone on the apps could be a major factor for the gender disparity.

The default depends a lot on the cultural norms. There are places in the US where a relationship isn’t considered exclusive until it’s explicitly said, even after months of dating, and there are places where it would be considered exclusive without being explicitly said. If you are somewhere where casual sex is culturally accepted, then it makes sense that exclusivity has to be explicitly said, since long term FWB relationships are within the norm, but don’t have an expectation of exclusivity.

Straight up lying nearly universally breaks people’s head canon of social rules, so lying about height is generally seen as bad. However, some softer forms of dishonesty are culturally acceptable, even if they have larger effects. People who are perfectly willing to lie are toxic, but not all toxic people have to be perfectly willing to lie, or even willing to lie (in the strictest sense of lie). Specifically the format for meeting other people there. A lot of speed dating events give a designated time with each person, and then you rotate, like what u/FairwayBliss described. You vote yes or no on if you’re interested in each person there, and then post event find out if you matched with anyone. A good speed dating event would make sure there’s about equal men and women, so that’s part of the problem. I’ve never been to a speed dating event, but I’d imagine there’s a bunch of variations in setups. Like some of them would be formatted in a way that discourages people from talking to their same-gendered friends during the event. Your post would be more interesting to discuss if you have more details on the specific format.

While that’s a reasonable assumption from the info in OPs post, that’s not the case. The average age for women to marry was still above 20. “You don’t size trousers/jeans by waist in the USA?…How do you guys do it?” Women’s pants sizing is weird, but it’s sort of similar to dress sizing? Like 12-14 is often a large, 8-10 a medium, 4-6 a small, and 0-2 an extra small, which corresponds to dress sizing. However, brand sizing can vary a lot. It’s fairly common for a 12 in one brand to be a 14-16 in another. Maybe because of UK dress sizing? (UK 16 in dresses is generally equivalent to US 12).

They start off not being silent, but then show statistics about the number of men who die by su*cide. So they're deliberately showing how gauche it is for …

"Manchild" is the only song I can think of that refers to a man as it, so I don't think it's a large enough sample to use this as an example of how women objectify men more in music. Many other commentators gave you quite a few examples of women being objectified in music. I personally believe that women are objectified more in music than men. I'd be absolutely floored if Sabrina Carpenter didn't believe this. Because lessening objectification but not the gap just further disadvantages men. I ca…

"Yeah, I find the forgetting to charge the phone thing offensive as a woman with adhd. I actually haven’t heard the song, so I can’t really say much about it." I haven't heard it, but looked up the lyrics because of OP's post. The actual lyric was "You say your phone is broken, just forgot to charge it." I'd say this is a lot less offensive to people with ADHD than how OP portrayed the lyrics (though OP was not trying to make a point about ADHD). The weird thing is a lot of the lyrics are more m…

I’m not on those parts of the internet, though I’m sure they exist. Could you include examples (you don’t need to remember them exactly) so people could try to discern the individual examples motives? In some cases it’s probably rage bait, since it seems like the TikTok algorithm loves recommending ragebait to some people (not on TikTok, but the number of people who report seeing extreme opinions on TikTok seems high). I’m sure there’s non-ragebait examples as well, but I can’t guess the motivat…

The idea of thinking someone you just met buying you expensive stuff = good is crazy to me. This sounds like they’re love bombing you. Like I’d be shocked if they didn’t turn out to be abusive and controlling. Furthermore, the person in the video also sounds like a walking red flag. Like them thinking “princess treatment” by a guy they just met is good makes me think they are also an abusive and controlling person. Edit: to be clear, I don’t mean being kind. Expecting the person you’re on a date…

The type of person who’s willing to murder someone probably has other anger management issues as well.

TikTok is also not representative of the general population. Rage bait often gets lots of attention, and the comment sections bring out the small percentage of people who agree. Also, rage bait tiktoks are probably more likely to originally get recommended to the people who agree, with it only reaching normal people after it goes viral on another site. Anectodotely, my friends are pretty sane, and the percentage who use TikTok get recommended mostly nonragebait videos like “duck stamp decorating…

If you’re seeing this on dating apps especially, that’s a bit different. Dating apps are often seen as a last resort, so they’re more likely to attract people with worse personalities. Women also witness people saying crazy stuff on dating apps. The personalities seen on dating apps are not representative of the US population.

The Barbie Movie seemed to me to be anti hating men and is considered a feminist movie by the general public.

This exactly. I would add that I feel like splitting the coffee bill 50/50 seems odd. Why not each pay for your own cup of coffee instead?

While I feel like the thousands is hyperbole, I mostly agree with your point. The people who are most likely to respond positively to a cold approach are probably on dating apps.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
