He didn't call the police, the policeman was already there and witnessed the event. Police have a duty to mediate or stop any crime they see even if it's petty or beneath them unless there is something more important they need to attend. I think the outrage is more that she thought that she could break the law and get away with it evident by her shock with confronted by the officer.

I probably am, but I enjoy where I am in life, I enjoy not needing someone else to feel fulfilled, don't get me wrong if I meet a good woman and she wants to share this life in my company I won't readily reject them, but I don't see it as a requirement and I don't think being in a relationship will magically solve all my problems.
