If men are expected to always be the ones asking then "the person who asked pays" is just "the man pays" for people who want to pretend to be progressive.

I have male friends for whom I care deeply and that I make it a priority to be there for when they need me. But the vast majority of the times I reach out for company they're busy spending time with their wives or girlfriends instead. Putting in vastly more effort into my relationships than I ever get back is getting really tiresome. People (especially women) sort of flippantly dismiss this whole mess with "just be friends with each other!" But I don't see how that can actually work without corr…

It's pretty fucked up that the only people you're supposed to have emotionally genuine conversations with are strangers that you pay to listen to you. I've even seen this line of thinking applied to things like moving - you're not supposed to ask your friends to come help you and buy them some pizza and beer after, you should hire movers. Somehow "friends coming to you for help and support" seems to now be seen as an odious burden that they inflict on you without asking. The benefits one used to…

There was a movement during the first world war called the "order of the white feather", where young women would give a white feather to men they encountered who weren't in uniform. Basically shaming them as cowards to get them to enlist. It was popular enough that the government apparently had to issue badges to identify men in jobs that were critical to the war effort so they could avoid harassment. So yeah, men are afraid women will laugh at them. But it's at least in part because they live i…

Ok, so I actually went and read an English translation of that piece of shit. While it *does* use the analogy of a poisonous mushroom hidden among harmless ones, it doesn't use that to argue against picking *any* mushrooms - it instead argues that it's important to be on guard and know how to identify them. There's a section on supposed identifying characteristics, then a bunch of stories defaming Jewish people as cheats/rapists/pedophiles or whatever. Each story has a stupid little rhyme at the…

One of the major lessons of all of this is that they seem to be completely disconnected from the genuine harm this sort of thing causes. Any objection gets dismissed as "hurt feelings" at best. Women being wary of me hurts my feelings a bit but I don't hold it against them, if it's a tradeoff between my feelings and their safety it's one I'm happy to make. I want women to be safe. Being assumed to be a dangerous predator gets men (especially already marginalized men) shot. It gets the cops calle…

I'm really curious what kind of math they're doing to arrive at that "twice as likely even if the populations were equal" stat. men for whatever reason, feel the need to defend the random man in this hypothetical situation. I am a random man to anyone who doesn't already know me. It doesn't matter if I know I'm "one of the good ones". It doesn't even matter if the women in my life know it, because the standard that's going to be applied to me in almost every situation is the same one that gets a…

The entire issue gets painted as "men oppressing women" a LOT, despite the majority of anti-abortion activists being women and significant female support for antiabortion causes. Supporting people's freedom is the right thing to do, and I'm going to do it regardless. But the idea that I should try making connections with people who clearly hate me, will take any opportunity to shit on me regardless of what I do, and who think that *I'm the problem in the first place* is an extremely bitter pill …

"men don't understand, it's not an attack against them". The point of communication is understanding. If people are *consistently* misunderstanding you, doesn't that mean the way you're trying to deliver your message needs to change? Unless of course they actually understood you perfectly and you're just trying to motte and bailey the whole thing.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
