Keeping her is not an option for me. I moved in here too quickly because I had to leave a domestic abuse situation in my family. I'm now trying my best to avoid homelessness myself. I'll either be living in my van, or going to CDL school and then living in a semi truck. It just isn't in the cards, and it seems kinda wrong to take someone's childhood pet. He did take me seriously enough to make a vet appointment, so that's good. It just shouldn't have taken me telling him for him to take care of …

I'm mid breakup with a man child, trying to get back out of a door I shouldn't have come in the first place. He has a dog, a very poorly 19 year old beagle that I have had to care for all day on top of everything else. I was appalled when he brought her home pretty soon after I moved in. His mom had been "caring" for the ancient beagle, she lived in a corner of her garage by herself all day. They literally put the dog in a corner to ignore when they can't be bothered to take care of them as well…

I had a big discussion with a male friend recently that noticing poor behavior in men isn't enough, and "minding your own business" isn't a good excuse. As the one with any chance to influence the situation from outside of it, it was his duty to act. Needless to say he was shocked, and I don't know if it was motivation enough to actually say or do something in a real situation. But I care, so I talk about it.

Then how will we protect ourselves? I doubt it will go in our favor. It already took me 5 months to receive my firearm ID in the mail, which is supposed to be a 30 day process. I had to go on a trip up the East Coast with my wits and a baseball bat. Maybe they should give men a psych exam first. Maybe that would help. Probably not though, in my neck of the woods, most guys keep an AK on the wall just to look cool.

I like that they are 'weak and helpless and we hurt them' but then they are strong and violent too? How are they going to be the victim and the oppressor at the same time????

A female OB/GYN did my breast exam with no gloves. I was so shocked and uncomfortable.

I'm now officially on the road and space is a huge, huge issue. I'm just a week in and have no qualms about pulling up somewhere and pulling stuff out to reorganize. I care way more about my sanity than other people's opinions. I will throw up my outdoor rugs and lay stuff out, and get my space the way I want. Too bad it never stays that way long!

Ouch, I'm feeling a bit sensitive to these comments, seeings how I'm taking up van life this summer. Is it a perfect lifestyle? No. But it's a great option for me. Judging people for the alternative lifestyle is a bit condescending in my opinion. There are public toilets and showers in nearly every town. It's property I own, that no man can intrude on, take over, or destroy for me. And it gets me off the farm which is a total win, I'm dying to go to the beach. That being said, I'm not going to b…

I agree. You need your own space and to untangle your energy from him. It will be hard at first, but you will enjoy having a space that is your own when you adjust. And hearing him fart in the other room and not having to actually witness it will affirm your decision every time. You'll see how much you actually put up with out if love, and now nearly tolerate as a roommate in the name of privacy.

Came here to say this as well. It's all fun and games being the 'cool, sexually adventurous girlfriend' until he wants you to put stuff in his ass on the daily. Fucking gross.

My ex did the same when I had to have precancerous cells removed. It was 'just to hard for him to deal with.' So he made me sleep on an inflatable mattress in the living room for a month until I moved out.

I work a retail job where we have a company approved playlist that plays the same goddamn songs every single day at the same time of day. (It's awful) BUT there is a song most of us probably heard 10ish years ago- 🎵"Ooh I think I've found a cheer-leader, she is always right there when I need her" 🎵 etc. etc. That whole song really gets to me. He goes on and on about this nameless women who is always praising him for no reason, and mentions absolutely nothing he does for her at all. She has no pe…

Like it or not the world is sometimes a safer place when you're a younger woman to have a man around, or at least that is what I thought. I having a partner at my side have me status and agency among my peer group, in my family, and in the public world. It took me years to realize that having a partner often takes away your freedom and safety in private. At this point, I'm reassessing.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
