Growing up I played O line and my little brother was a RB. I always told him I was faster than him in the first 5 yards but he never believed me. One day he popped off a fat joke while standing too close to me. He didn't even finish his second stride before I tackled him. The best part was that our dad was in the yard watering the bushes while this went on, and as my brother yelled for help underneath me our dad just said he shouldn't stand so close while being a smart ass.

When my anger was burning the hottest I thought about all those things, then a calmer head prevailed. I live in Texas and my wife isn't a criminal, so there's no way I'd have gotten custody. All that would have come of it would have been ruining an otherwise great marriage and only getting to see my son every other weekend instead of every night. You definitely aren't wrong. Like I said, it wasn't easy to get past. I don't know, I just don't see it being as bad as some other stuff, like infidelity or a hidden drinking/drug/spending problem. When I say I eventually got over it, I'm not saying I internalized it until the pain faded. Extensive conversations and even arguements went on between us and in the end addressing the very issues you brought up made our marriage stronger.

I won't say it was easy, but she is a good woman, a wonderful wife, and an amazing mother. This is literally the only issue we have differing opinions on. It really helped me to look at it the same way as I did with my friends. There is an immense societal pressure and misunderstanding of the issue, so it's not completely their fault. It also helps that I love the shit out of her.

How I wish that were true. I was completely against circumcision while my wife was for it. It makes sense you're in / grew up in Texas. I'm a Texan and as I read your post I thought to myself that it was weird that the pregnant-mandates-marriage attitude was so wide spread. There is definitely a chivalrous attitude among men around here where they think marriage to the mother is the only way to be a good father. The Bible Belt is what it is I suppose.

I'm pretty sure it's not a male/female consideration, it's about who earns more. When my folks split mom went hard at dad and had her lawyer ask for alimony. She's a working RN and at the time dad had been busted down to part time. Dad's lawyer jumped on the alimony train and mom ended up cutting checks until dad got his hours back.
