He would feel differently if he caught an STD. He would feel differently if she ended up pregnant. He would feel differently if she was repulsive to him. He may not be upset about what happened to him and I would not try to convince him to be otherwise. But you should try to get him to understand that there at least two women out there who are getting tacit approval to do this to men.

MRM is not a civil rights movement. All you guys seem concerned with is preserving male-hegemony rather than promoting gender equality. You're basically the Tea Party of gender politics It isn't going anywhere but down - the opinions of the OP make it obvious.

If you wish to see a thread on the problems of men in developing nations, by all means post one. I guarantee it will be will received if it truly concerns the rights of men. mens rights is only an issue because of, albeit poor, attempts at creating a system in which neither gender is better, but the gender roles still remain. Yeah, you have missed the point of the sub. Men have always been the disposable gender, no matter which country you choose. Men have always been the majority victims of sui…

It is not that confusing. Most people identify as the sex they were born into, and are attracted to the opposite (cis). Some still identify with their sex but are attracted to the same (homosexual). And some people do not identify with their sex (trans); they may or may not be attracted to the gender you expect.

Bias against child custody for men is, by far, the main reason why I chose to never get married. I love children a great deal and not having them is my only regret in becoming a MGTOW. Knowing that an ex-wife could easily rip my kids from me and reduce me to a weekend father (as has happened to many of my friends and family), is just something I could not bear.

No doubt this will get downvotes And it did. Why is it that you have no problem with such an obviously sexist term? Such behaviour is easily labelled as "arrogant and sexist", and most MRAs would likewise condemn it. You and the hypocritical Feminist movement, however, are apparently not happy unless you can make this a common fault of men. Sorry, but once again I do not see equality in what Feminists actually do and say.

I may not always agree with her but she is one of the precious few Feminists that holds to the radical notion that women can be responsible human beings.

That is a comic making fun at Feminist expense. Here is Feminism doing it to themselves: http://evebitfirst.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/a-man-is-a-rape-supporter-if/ As one of their own comments says, "Virtually every man I have ever know in my entire life fits this entire list to a 'T'. Every last one of them." Even if a man is not a rapist, he sure as heck supports rape!

Here's a clue - try participating in the forum before posting your pet peeve. You would have us all believe that you are terribly upset at how this community treats the LGBTQ folks, but apparently never bothered enough to make a single post before you could have a whole thread to yourself. You couldn't even arse yourself to list a few examples. You richly deserve your downvotes.

At least this character chose to take punches to the face to effect a rescue; it reinforces male disposability, but I have seen worse. In the animated series, Dragon Riders of Berk, Tuffnut and Ruffnut Thorston are twins that share the same behaviour - they are both violent and brutish. But in every single case where the two fight (which is often), it is ALWAYS Ruffnut (the female) who hits Tuffnut (the male). Even when you are twinned with loutish Viking sister of equal strength, the rule remai…

You mention your own misogyny and a possible source in your mother. If I was your brother, I would be showing an equal concern over your own prejudice against women. It is worse for you when you are one! If you watch the news then you might think crime happens everywhere all the time; if you listen to Feminists then you might thing that every other man is a rapist. Same goes for /menrights when women and Feminism look bad. This is the reason I disagree with the WBB (Women Behaving Badly) posts. …

Sorry, I would edit out the MRM part. The PUA movement is not concerned with men's rights, as you say. They are, however, advocating directly to men which fits the definition of masculism. Manhood Academy is a smaller but more pernicious example of these elements - directly marketing themselves to angry men. We can't make criticism on parts of Feminism without recognizing the failed parts of our own advocacy.
/r/MensRights17/06/13 12:34 AM

Indeed; question #10 also gave me a lot of trouble. I identify as masculist, but there are aspects of the MRM that trouble me. Some brands, like PUA, stink just as much as early Feminism. I identify as feminist and anti-Feminist. I concede the oppression Olympics to woman around the world, but feel that mainstream Western Feminism actually opposes true equality. I am egalitarian of the libertarian kind, not communist. Equal opportunity, not outcome. I am a humanist, but that seems to me more a p…

On Friday, police said they arrested a London man at his home Thursday and kept him overnight before releasing him Friday morning with no charges. "We had reasonable grounds at the time that he was responsible, so rather than letting him just stay out in the public (they arrested him)," said Steeves. "Through further investigation there was evidence that he was not even in the area so we released him." In other words, there was no evidence! Solely on the word of a 12 year old girl, a man was arr…

Without a doubt, the biggest problem with Feminism is their appropriation of gendered issues. Help women fight for their issues against the "Patriarchy", and the problems of men will magically get solved as well. It is infuriating beyond measure to hear how a young boy gets physically assaulted for not measuring up to the male standard, only to hear feminists reframe it as misogyny because he was called girly (weak). Feminism has had over a half century to prove its lofty claim of being for ever…

I can't speak to how women feel about running for political office but the truth of the matter is vastly different. Here in Canada, at least, when a woman stands for office she has a much better chance than a man of getting the nod from her party. On top of that, a woman stands a better chance of being elected by the voters. This is definitely how things were when I spent time helping in local elections - the parties are hungry for women candidates but there are just so few to be had. Much the s…

There never was a coalition; it was the internet that provided a place where men could express their concerns and discuss men's rights without being shamed (at least in person). We have reached the point now that the various elements have enough momentum to splinter off and go their own way. Regarding the anti-feminist overload, I could not agree more. Google tracks the links to any searched item, ranking it higher for more links. Ironically, this means that some of the highest result indexed for /mensrights come from those who hate us - Jezebel, Skepchick, Manboobz, ... I strongly disagree. I have worked in several mixed gender environments, and almost without exception it has been women who complain or make fun of their current SOs - "You know what my idiot boyfriend did last night?" This is done openly without anyone ever trying to shut it down. Men will disparage their ex just as women do, but the open disrespect of their current partner is only socially acceptable for women. Men are no angels and I have heard plenty of sexist comments about women in general…

I am enjoying this immensely. A fracas like this is an unfortunate necessity to gain attention these days, but somebody has to play the bad guy. MRAs trying to hold a discussion on serious issues while Feminists scream "Patriarchy!" at the top of their lungs out on the sidewalks? Perfect!

This article was massively upvoted in both /feminism and /feminisms; it is a sore spot with Feminists that their noble view of themselves as grand egalitarians is not shared by non-Feminists. I use a similar response when people try to minimize the harm caused by women in incidents of DV by saying they do not cause as much damage as men can. "Oh, so I can slap my girlfriend/wife anytime I like as long as I don't leave a bruise?"

I am with you. I have always despised affirmative action, and don't like this even though the problem is huge. Media attention on the issue, and programs to encourage young men to choose teaching professions are all fine. But you must be hired on merit, or else you make all male teachers susceptible to the "oh, he was just an affirmative action hire".

I rarely agree with Feminists on anything, and this is no different. When men are by far the most affected by violence, and the specific problem of domestic violence is known to be a problem for both women and men (women initiate more but suffer more grievous injuries), it is an insult to men's intelligence to try to convince them that the Violence Against WOMEN Act is going to do anything to help men. I will not support legislation which would increase the abuse of restraining orders, further e…

Shit like this. People who refuse to give any credit to the 99% of women who don't do anything tremendously stupid - like the only way women can succeed at life is if they're lucky enough not to get victimized by something with real power. It pisses me off on behalf of women, so I can imagine how it would feel if I was female. The article assumes a problem (I have seen hundreds of less extreme facial tattoos), but never bothers to mention the real feelings of this truly objectified young lady.

This is the same line that the OP should have used. It stops this bullshit right in its tracks when you demand to know exactly what men receive in return. After a lifetime of asking this question, I have never had someone who even attempted an honest answer. And, like the OP, I almost always get called rude and threatened that no woman will have me. Perhaps better to rephrase that as avoiding unwanted children is very good for society, but yes I do support a woman's right to choose abortion. On the contrary. There are many who believe that boys and men are the troublemakers, and that women are generally well-behaved and harmless. Young boys in school are particular susceptible to this. And if you listen to Feminists for any length of time, you are bound to hear how women are socialized not to cause trouble while boys are uniformly given the "boys will be boys" excuse. Your struggle is one that I have had with Feminism and other types of activists for many years. I have no problem believing that a particular problem affects women more than it does men. You are absolutely correct - having men support only men, and women only women, is not the way things should be done. Precisely. Someone was trying to tweak /feminism with this same image, and here is the only upvoted response: Considering that I feel safer in woman-only environments to discuss womanly issues, I see this as a potentially good idea. The problem is that so many of the expectations placed on men are placed by other men, so it may not feel safe for those not falling under the "manly" label. Also, it may create a circlejerk of "it's their fault!" if some simple rules aren't in place, and it may hurt…

I see this effect quite often in the supportive subreddits. With attitudes and policies of providing uncritical support, the claims of aggrieved posters are taken as true. The advice may be bad if the information is incorrect, or wasted entirely on a troll, but no real harm is done. It must be rough trying to stick to the Feminism brand. Here is something I saw yesterday, ostensibly a list of rules for being a feminist ally: 2.Don’t ever try to tell someone what is offensive and what is not. If someone is offended, then it’s offensive. Contradicted immediately by rule #3 - 3.Don’t try to “get offended” when someone calls you out on your bullshit. Don’t think that works on us. Demonstrable lies in the accusation, motives to harm the accused, admissions of guilt to a friend or to police - these are the things required to meet the burden of proof. My question was rather straightforward. You seem concerned about women being taken to court by their rapists for making a false accusation. I read about rapists all the time, and I read ab…

Would the victims then be charged because they failed to provide sufficient proof to prosecute their attackers? Is there a single case where a woman has become newsworthy by claiming her conviction for a false accusation was unjust?

I enjoyed the review, especially here: It is striking that when confronted with an evolutionary story that does not suit her prejudices—the idea, for example, that a cross-cultural male preference for a certain female waist-to-hip ratio might be an adaptive preference for fertile-seeming women—she is happy to reject it, without further elaboration, as “sexist.” Yet offered a no less controversial theory that happens to support her a priori convictions, she is all naive fascination. Exactly. Femi…

I enjoy Jon Stewart because he calls everybody on their prejudice and lazy thinking (like the hilarious bit on Democrat 'inclusion'), but I want to point out to the OP and others in this thread that misandry is overused in /menrights - Gillibrand was not saying anything hateful about men. Sexist perhaps, but not hateful.

I prefer to focus on men's rights. There is nothing wrong with something like /r/oney as men need places where they can discuss things that affect them, and an emotionally supportive atmosphere there can really help men open up. There is no right or wrong when discussing how you feel. Such is not the case when we talk about men's rights, however. Allowing emotionalism to take root in the MRM is a recipe for disaster - how do you think Feminism came up with such a flawed ideology?

I'm not sure how this should be treated Force someone to have sex at knifepoint - get convicted of rape. Deliberately set fire to someone - get convicted of first degree murder. The criminal's reasons affect sentencing, not the charge. Why is this so difficult for the world's vigilantes to understand?

Spooky, as I was just about to respond to eggilicious on that issue. I teach martial arts, and often discuss the uses and misuses of our fighting ability with the young men. It is surprisingly easy to teach them to not be bullies, and to resist the calls of other men to fight over stupid things. Once they have confidence in their ability to defend themselves, the necessity to "prove their manhood" drops away quickly. But I encounter the greatest resistance when I try to teach them to recognize t…

I was going to make the very same comment. Father's play is very physical - tossing little kids in the air, piggyback rides, wrestling, monster chasing, snowball fights. It is very rare to see women playing this way with children.

Firstly, the original editorial does not mention Feminism. Not even once. Maquire can claim that the sexual revolution and Feminism are synonymous, but that does not make it so. It was birth control and the youth culture of sixties baby boomers, if you ask me. Secondly, every single person getting on a plane - whether man, woman, or child - goes through security as a suspected terrorist. Only men are being considered potential pedophiles and THAT is why men will not simply shrug it off.

Bullshit on so many levels. Everyone is happy to see an ally from the "other side". Feminists are very happy to have men join them; Warren Buffet is often quoted in conversations of rich versus poor. It is a validation to know that you are not just being oversensitive. No, the problem with cis privilege is not so much about how we act as it is about how we perceive things. When our genitalia, sexual preference, and gender presentation all align neatly with the large majority, we often forget to take into account those people for whom this is not true.

There very much is a default setting in Vermont. 15(a) Vermont Statutes Annotated § 665: When the parents cannot agree to divide or share parental rights and responsibilities, the court shall award parental rights and responsibilities primarily or solely to one parent. I don't like that argument; it is like banning knives because some people like to get stabby. The problem of women lying about BC does not change whether it is paid for or not. I don't know if you are referring to a fringe opinion, or have badly twisted what many of us here are advocating. Many of us are think that if a woman has the right to keep, kill, or abandon/adopt her baby, then men should be allowed the same rights when possible. There is sexism in those types of jokes, just as there is racism, nationalism, ableism, and any other form of discrimination you can think of. The joke teller can have several different intentions, though. Sometimes the humour, as in Swift's Modest Proposal, is meant to expose and correct injustice. I agree with the downvoters - this has nothing to do with men's rights - but I did get a chuckle. people believe that domestic violence only happens to women. Feminism accounts for this, saying that this isn’t right Riiiiight. The "W" in VAWA must mean something else when the Feminists lobby for it.

No, the problem is that people are refusing to accept that this is a gendered issue. You are amongst many Feminists who have done this, blaming Patriarchal men for their aggression and dominance while remaining silent on (if not actually opposing as you are) the disposability ingrained into men. You give a single example of a girl whose "heroics" consisted of not running away and providing first aid to her wounded friend - another woman. Meanwhile, three men died as they literally used their bod…

this whole topic should not be turned into a gender debate Rather hypocritical when that is what you seem to want, seeing as you immediately followed with: as it has been made apparent that gender has absolutely nothing to do with heroism. Says who? You?

It is not wealth envy. Expensive jewelry, clothes, and homes are all ways of showing off wealth, but none of these earns a penis comparison. Search Google images for "compensate small penis" and you will see two things - vehicles, and weapons. Oversized. A jacked up pickup and a gun rack loaded with WalMart firearms will do the trick. This is the male stereotypes of strength and violence overlaid on common male interests; a man whose own penis is inadequate naturally compensates with something p…

That was an extraordinary listing of the reasons why /menrights exists, and deeply meaningful coming from a woman. If only more Feminists and MRAs could display half such empathy for the other side of the gender war.

Radical faction of feminist scholarship? You should check out TwoX every time these posters come up for discussion. Overtly, the subreddit is as sympathetic to men as any other random group, but it is very disappointing to see all that disappear once this topic comes up. Try putting up a poster suggesting ways that Muslims should fight against terrorism. Or a poster listing the ways that black people can help put an end to crime. A thread was posted with the title, "Ex ran off and left me with my 2 year old girl. I have no idea what I'm doing! What are some cheap and easy meals I can make her?" Nothing there to indicate gender but I automatically thought of a single dad. I was right, but it still bugs me.

Some people seem to think this is funny. It is not. Cpmnriley is way off base to claim that /menrights as a group is in any way responsible for this, but the very least we can do is not act like we support this vandalism.

Not a single mention of the complete dearth of male teachers in elementary education (thirty years ago, half my teachers were men). Not a single mention of the how that gender imbalance and Feminist influence has labelled an entire generation of young boys as problems that need to be drugged out on Ritalin. From JasonMacker: When Smokey the Bear says "Only you can prevent forest fires", he's not calling me an arsonist. Smokey the Bear never identified you as a man. If black people were committing 90% of all crimes, you might have a point. But the fact is, over 90% of rapists are men. Gold diggers are almost 100% female, and almost all false accusations of rape come from women. I was preparing myself to be disappointed or enraged when I read the OP's title. I am so glad it turned out differently that I actually cheered when both men and women in that restaurant stood up for the boy when he appeared uncomfortable. Daniel Tosh is a comedian (i.e. publicly acceptable troll), but he made a comment in a venue specifically set up for the making of jokes and was torn to shreds by the feminist media. There is absolutely NO proof one way of the other on the intentions of the FemiTheist, but which gendered subreddit did you decide on to post your "hey, it's just a joke guys!"? Hypocrite.

Agreed, and it exactly resembles the main page of /menrights. Most of the /atheism front page is highlighting the worst aspects of religion and religious people. Much of /menrights front page is often WBB - Women Behaving Badly posts - or anti-Feminist rants. Both sides have better ways to inform and persuade, but angry shouting always gets more upvotes.

I like it, too, and offer this suggestion: "I'm a feminist because... both women and men deserve equality." Rights and responsibilities does make it clear that there are two sides to our social functions, but it does take three words instead of one. Placing "both" at the front stresses the argument that Feminism (which most people agree already fights for women) needs to include men's issues and perspective before they can claim to support equality for all. Not that Feminism needs to, however. W…

It depends on whether she is faithful to her stereotypical role. A woman's responsibilities were equal to a man's in pre-industrial society. She spent much of her adult life risking the dangers of pregnancy, and took care of all work around the home as well as raising the children. She surrendered all say in matters outside the home, whether it be financial, legal, or political. But all of that has changed. Maternal health is vastly improved and most women give birth a few times and do not lose …

It is not the sexism that bugs me, it is the stupidity. If we assume that the proponents are correct - that the general population of men (not just a few) are so abusive that women need a place to get away from them - then why are we only affording them a single room somewhere on campus in order to be safe? Why is the focus not on correcting the behaviour of the misbehaving men? It reminds of the suggestion from India to force all women into a curfew because so many were getting raped at night. …

No problem with this one. It is childish to try to make your partner jealous, and treating your partner very well is attractive adult behaviour. What bothers me is the lack of memes telling women to grow up. There is no lack of idiocy trying to control female sexuality - what clothes and makeup should be worn, how often to have sex, etc. What is missing is stuff like this: "A GIRL expects Daddy to pay for everything; a WOMAN pays her own way" or "A GIRL slaps boys when she is offended; a WOMAN k…

Academic Feminism - I was prepared for bullshit and was not disappointed. Question 2 was one that comes up VERY often when I declare myself an anti-feminist. So this executive worries that the message of the case to others will be: We were right to stick with the guys. The mainstream media almost never mentions this, but I cannot imagine that this thought d…

It was a very random thing. I was questioned and charged because a strange woman accused me of forcing her into my car, driving to a nearby park, and raping her. In the course of the investigation, camera footage of the lot revealed that there was not enough time from our filmed encounter and when I arrived home with three awake housemates as alibi, so the charges were dropped. A friend who was helping me talked to a police officer, who told him that the woman apparently had a jealous and abusiv…

I am willing to answer your questions, but there is not much more than what you would expect (if you have read /mensrights long enough). The only unusual thing was the difference in reactions between my male and female friends. Both short and long term guy friends stood by me 100%; they knew I was simply not that kind of person. But my circle of a half dozen good female friends suddenly and quite obviously ceased all contact with me. It was years before I got over this and actually attempted to …

Circumcised at birth, and taught "Ladies First" in the public education system. Father had no help when mother went to the mental hospital over the divorce, and could not see himself as the victim of physical abuse by his new wife. Twice been told explicitly to hire a woman. Repeatedly asked, through pink ribbon and other campaigns, to contribute to the imbalance in gender specific health care funding -and I'm the gender with the shorter lifespan. Falsely accused of rape by a strange woman who s…

It is nice to see a pro-father article, but I am so very unsympathetic. I assumed at some point her biological clock would tick and she would change her mind. Guess you assumed wrong, Philip. And I don't want to hear Martin whining either: Of course, Martin could have given up his own career — a decision he says he is thankful he didn’t make. ‘I’ve got a good friend who is a house husband, and as much as he loves his children he gets bored and frustrated,’ he says. However, part of him wonders w…

Funny, I don't remember "journalists" writing shit like this when it was women who were failed by the education system... Women still fall behind on advanced degrees in every discipline desired by employers, excepting Biology. Huge sums of money are being wasted on the world's most educated soccer moms. And occupations without any women at all are beyond counting. Yes, if the jobs of the future are all safe, air-conditioned, and stress free, then women will do them. When paid work even remotely …

I agree that ex-girlfriends are relatively easy to stay with, as long as the breakup was not too acrimonious. The relationship was tried and it failed; notions of "maybe if I just..." don't come up if you can let go of past feelings of both love and hurt. Staying friends with someone when you want more, however, is poisonous. This is the reason women complain about Nice GuysTM being anything but nice. It is a human reaction to being denied something you want - the emotional defense is to push aw…

I am not offended by the "female" side of the argument - men often use the term friendzoned when what really happened was that they pursued a woman who was not attracted to them other than as a friend. And the nastiness some women receive when the finally reject him or choose another is very real. But no one ever talks about the other definition any more. You are adding way too much drama to my inquiries; I was asking about harassment, not rape. I didn't bring it up because I didn't want to creep you out You should bring it up more often around here. Although I tend to focus on actual rights rather than gender roles and such, I do think the MRM should be doing more to fight for gay men who simply cannot show signs of attraction to other men without first making sure they don't cause upset (or get beaten up).

Went looking through your comments for your location (didn't see it), and noticed you were bisexual. I hang out with my gay step-brother and his friends, and have never gotten the type of attention I mentioned in my first reply. That group makes up most of the gay men I know, however, and they all know I was the cis brother so I chalk it up to politeness (don't freak out the straight guy, sort of thing).

I didn't know what country you were from; it is just something I have been pondering. Never had a problem with going bald. Much easier to take care of, and it seemed to be a magnet for female attention. Not with every girl, but the ones who liked it REALLY liked it - like the Buddha's belly, my scalp was caressed almost daily by female co-workers. Like you said, my confident attitude about being bald seemed to turn it into a sexy thing.

It really seems to be that bad, and I say "seems" because I don't think it happens as much Canada as it does in the United States. That's a vast oversimplification of the term. You got that part right, at the very least. It took decades for Feminism to finally recognize what everyone was telling them - that the word "Patriarchy" was incorrect, and sexist to boot. So now they have come up the new term of "Kyriarchy", and here is the definition from Feminism 101: Kyriarchy – a neologism coined by Elisabeth Schussler Fiorenza and derived from the Greek words for “lord” or “master” (kyrios) and “to rule or dominate” (archein) w…

It wasn't that subtle. The biggest beef according to a large portion of the comments was Ebert's analogy of women watching men's behaviour just as dogs do. If Ebert had not been pushing gender essentialism along with his misandry, we would not have heard a peep from Feministe.

I took a look and had the same impression. They don't seem to be saying that this is the way all relationships should be, but rather just providing advice for those couples with a dominant female. The interview lays bare the true motives of the Southern Poverty Law Center. "Right wing rhetoric" is classified as hate right along with misogyny, anti-semitism, etc. The interview closes with a long rant against the political right in the United States. Goldwag and the SPLC have an agenda, make no mistake, and it has nothing to do with hate and everything to do with political ideology. Also, Goldwag sounds like a moron and it seem that even the interviewers were dubious.

Neither. The school has a clearly defined policy of gender separation. I don't think it is right (boys and girls need to learn how to relate), but the school's position could easily be argued without misogyny entering into it. The only biological difference between a man and a woman is the difference of a Y chromosome – and even then, there’s a bit of wiggle room. OK, I get the first part. Classic Feminist who denies any biological difference in the sexes - just ignore the penis and tits and such, and declare all gendered behaviour as cultural and therefore "fixable". But what is the author wiggling? The sex chromosomes?

For all the men out there who still know how to build a fire, throw a punch, and know when it is okay to kiss woman, please be sure to pass it on. Throw a punch? Seriously? I'm with the Feminists on this one. If women don't want men to be so violent, then they should stop picking their sexual partners by their worth as personal bodyguards.
/r/MensRights06/05/12 06:31 AM

It took me a bit before I decided to classify these as attempted rape. Although the women did not use force to actually obtain sex, there was the threat of continued violence. Legally, it may depend on what the women were saying when it happened. Was it "you will have sex with me or else!", or "you bastard, nobody refuses me like that!"; the latter may make simple assault a safer bet for prosecution.

You're not making any sense. The woman isn't paying for dinner - the man is. The women is not doing anything "chivalrous" - she is not opening doors or pulling out seats. She is not taking responsibility for initiating and planning the date. What are the women doing that men are not?

Not be rude? That's it? That goes just as well for men, unless you are suggesting that men have free rein to be rude when someone does something nice for us. Yeah, Big_Timber isn't playing the dominant role very well. And he is missing out if he is not buying other things when dating. I know exactly nothing about German law on IVF, but the article stated that the contract was expired and the sperm sample was supposed to be destroyed. True, the woman skates free of all responsibility (when will that ever change), but after a few expensive lawsuits like this you can be damn sure that these doctors will very aware of how much their lack of ethics will cost them - a woman won't be able to get IVF treatments without the sperm donor standing right beside her.

I don't doubt it; age is an incredibly strong factor for male attraction. Although women do strongly prefer the traits of older men (confidence, wealth), young men are not as overwhelmingly rejected as older women. Which 'feminazis' are calling it sexist? Even quotes dignify it too much - feminazi is a ridiculous word. The article he posted only had a politician expressing "concern". And the negative response to the AMSA seemed to be about the funding dollars, not sexism (although they relate). But... rabid Feminist are dime a dozen. Wait a sec, this is the Daily Mail-- why am I taking this seriously at all? LOL. So many reasons not to. Morality is nebulous subject. These are reported opinions of said morality, not measurements. If it is true, there is no way of telling if it is sex or gender that lies at the root. And finally, if woman are more moral on the whole, so what?

There seems to be some flexibility for male preference on body type. Attractive women have ranged from well-fed Rubenesques to flappers and Twiggy. I have never heard of a place or time when shorter men were more desirable than tall ones.

The only double standard was not addressed. Like FascistOrigami, I believe that people are not responsible for what they find sexually attractive. There are countless women, however, who go off on men for expressing a preference for breast size, hair colour, you name it.

I don't see anything in your post indicating that you have tried to speak with these women about your discomfort. If so, what was their response? Pressing legal charges should only be your last resort when communication fails. Trying to use the system to "set an example" is a horrid impulse; these women are only responsible for their own behaviour and do not deserve to be made into a public awareness stunt.

she says it's who she is and if I don't like it then I should leave. This just keeps sounding worse. Is this really part of who she is? Does she give this same kind of verbal sparring to every one she is close to, or just you? Maybe she is that kind of woman and you need to decide if you can accommodate her. If she actually proposes that you should leave the relationship, however, then it seem obvious that she is not willing to give any ground. Relationships are built on respect and flexibility;…

It is good advice, but a bad judgement. If you know someone is crazy then having sex with them can be very risky. But crazy can come out of nowhere, so it is not fair to judge someone if you don't know their situation.

Stand up for yourself, man. There is a difference between avoiding pointless arguments and allowing unwanted behaviour to continue. If her name-calling is bothering you then you need to make your feelings clear; she will stop doing it if she respects you. Some girls are going to test you, however. This is not something I tolerate, but you seem high on the "unconditional love", etc. In which case, I suggest holding back on your verbal and physical affections - it will do you good to learn some se…

This "War on Women" phrase has been pissing me off since the Republican leader race began. It is the anti-government/anti-sex/pro-life conservative pundits and politicians who are fighting against things like contraception and abortion. These things do affect women predominately, and I agree with most women that this is a regression to worse times, but there is no war on the female gender! Female privilege continues unabated in the rest of America; give it a rest, already.

Men - you can be punished on the emotional reaction of thirteen year old girls. Women - the dismissal of men, fervor over "rape culture", and Feminist influence on politics and enforcement, are working so much to your detriment. The OP is way off base with the title. Very few feminists are Solanas worshipping psychopaths; the bulk simply want to irrevocably establish that men have all the power and women are the victims of everything bad. That said, this is another fine demonstration of why the social "sciences" are held in such low regard. Patriarchy theory has no hard numbers to define it, but these idi…

I think the OP is just running another joke, but your advice is good for any who think this way. I've heard several cases of this happening to women in the last couple of years. I think this issue hurts women a lot more than it does men. Although the education system cannot afford to lose the precious few men it has, there are still many more women with porn/sex worker pasts who want to become teachers. So, not really a men's rights problem; more of a problem with judgmental and paranoid bureaucrats in a society that fears sexuality.

I am completely unsurprised by the number of posters who are determined to maintain that rape is THE MOST HORRIBLE CRIME THERE IS! There is not a single comment where anyone claimed that rape is not horrible, but all the posted stories of the fallout from a false accusation - money for court, lost jobs, lost friends, vigilante beatings, prison rape, suicide - cannot loosen the grip of victimhood enough to allow that some things are, like being falsely accused, deserve the same empathy and consid…

After years of seeing female teachers getting a slap on the wrist for abusing their position of trust, I would have thought my sympathy would be tapped out. But this punishment is too extreme by far! There is no word that Schmieder was abusive or violent, and while underage boys deserve the same protection as girls from adults who prey on them, this one was fourteen years old and seemed to a willing participant. Can't we find something in the middle that is sensible?

I noticed the same bias. "Girls also made more effort" versus "boys are less likely to work hard"; it is always the fault of the boys and not the education system or the (predominately) female teachers. The author also tries to make it sound like a an issue for both boys and girls. Even without these results, there still is a huge problem with women dominating the teaching professions. It is the same problem wherever one gender comprises the overwhelming majority - young children do not get any role models for choosing that profession, and the minority gender is at risk for discrimination.

I never understood why PZ Myers got so much attention as an atheist, as his writing is merely adequate at the best of times, but quite often condescending and repetitive. Thankfully, shooting down Creationists does not require a rigorous mental effort. Ever since Elevator-gate, however, he has devolved into the worst of feminism - his articles are full of declarations without proof, and loads of shaming for those he deems too stupid to perceive his "obvious" truths.

You have nailed the MR angle - the social code that states that it is men who must suffer and toil and pay before being accepted as a partner. I think little girls are much more shortchanged, however. The motif for femininity is physical beauty and vulnerability, and the moral is to be faithful and passive. A male hero can win through strength, intelligence, bravery, etc., but all the girl can do is wait. Not very inspiring, is it?

That debate can be argued reasonably from both sides. Going strictly from your viewpoint, however, I am forced to ask again. If the role of women is to rear children and men to provide for their families, then why are women allowed to take jobs from men?

Perhaps you want to try again? I am taking from your comment that you believe that women should not be allowed to vote, hold property, or enter into legal contracts. After all, if they are not obligated to take on the duties required of a citizen, they should not be given the commensurate rights.

I am assuming that you took on the role of mother with full knowledge and free choice. This makes a huge psychological difference from someone who was forced into it.

Disregarding someone's opinion on these subjects because I haven't had to endure as much of the negatives is ridiculous. Isn't that just as racist and sexist? This is one of the many reasons that I am so strongly against capital "F" Feminism. Privilege is a completely understandable byproduct of the human condition - it is difficult to know how another person feels without having lived through their experiences. Feminism, however, turned this into a sexist weapon and used it at every opportunity…

Thanks for coming by. I do have one thing to add regarding your comment: Would a man resent a child that he found out wasn't his? That's the thing I'm trying to understand. Women have the advantage of knowing their child is their own, so I can see why it can be difficult to understand. Instead of the sci-fi examples offered so far, I would suggest you consider this - your child has been deliberately switched at the hospital immediately after birth. How would you feel about that child? Would you …

You are not being clear on your question. Your opening post asked if he should continue paying child support. Your comments, however, are driving at something completely different: I mean, I've heard of men that raise a child for years and after a divorce find out the child isn't there. He then wants the kid out of his life. You can stop loving things very easily, but a person is another matter. Would a man resent a child that he found out wasn't his? How can you just cut yourself off from a chi…

I could not care less about what SRS trolls think, but I do agree with you - these WBB (Women Behaving Badly) posts do far more to prove that /menrights is a haven for misogyny then they will ever do for their expressed purpose of showing that women can do evil things just as much as men.

I was not arguing against shaming. Iif you are born with an XY sex chromosome, you are a man. Unlike other uses of shame (to enforce codes of politeness, fairness, etc.), there is no correct way of being a man and therefore no call to shame someone for doing it wrong.
/r/MensRights14/01/12 10:08 AM

The only word on your example list I truly dislike is mangina. It is used to shame a man for doing something that doesn't fit the writer's definition of a "real man", which is wrong, and does so by accusing him of being female - wrong again. I have never seen pussy whipped used against a man with a female boss, or who is submissive in bed. The phrase describes a man who is overwhelmingly compliant towards his female partner for fear of losing her sexual favours. Used that way, it seems very appr…

Yes, that makes sense - having identified as a woman will (unfortunately) draw a lot of negative comments and downvotes if you go against our version of the hivemind. I'm a woman and I wanted to say the same thing, but didn't think it would go over well. This makes me sad. I get very angry at the constant stream of people whose only post to /menrights is a criticism or condemnation. Usually with a self-serving caveat of "I support men's rights, but..." You, however, have been a constructive part of our conversations here for some time now. Thank you, girlwriteswhat. I am constantly aggravated by accusations that the MRM is nothing more than a reactionary, hate-filled movement just trying to maintain male privilege. I am old enough to remember how it was when Feminism was getting started in the sixties and seventies. Saw one about five minutes ago, by the name of Nicole Kissel. Perhaps you should watch the OP's video again while you check on your medication. Seriously, though, males are far more likely to take risks than females. Whether that is biological or cultural is one question, and whether it nets out to a positive for all humanity is another. There is no proper claim for Men's Rights that does not also benefit women. Not a one. Discouraging false accusers of rape and sexual abuse from damaging true victims. Solidifying gains made for women's rights by moving them into the more appropriate realm of human rights. More involved fathers by fixing child custody is better for their children. It is aggravating to see the lack of depth in these types of articles. If you check out graduates by gender and discipline (here is one from California State), you will quickly see the problem. The only field that women are excelling in AND which has strong primary demand is Biological Sciences. I find it odd that this throws you into such confusion. Rights are the claims of the individual upon society. In return, society demands that we give up our autonomy (we must not do illegal things) and the fruits of our labour (taxes). This mutual arrangement of rights and duties is what propels civilization forward. Children are vulnerable in every way imaginable - physically, mentally, emotionally. This means they receive a great deal of extra attention regarding their well-being at the expens…

Women receive less punishment for abuse of children, particularly sexual abuse. I have always felt a tension here between what I hear women saying about female child abusers, and what happens when those women go through the justice system. I believe that feminism has a far stronger influence over the courts then it does over women in general. 'can you guess the teacher's gender, I bet you can't because misandry comes from both men and women.' That is a much better phrasing.

And I agree with you. However... The usual lightening of personal responsibility for women might not apply in this situation. Women are stereotyped as being innate caretakers of children, and those that break that rule receive a rather hateful rebuke - most strongly from other women. Both men and women partake in teaching boys to "suck it up", so trying to pin this story on women seems unfair.

A fair question. There is no doubt in my mind that women in India suffer in countless ways. Feminism is correct when it aims to eliminate expectations of people based purely on their gender, and they do a good job of it - when it comes to helping women. The data shows that failure to make way for others on the sidewalk is an overwhelmingly female trait, but it does not explain why. I tried to find some resources in Washington for you, and can attest to the difficulties in finding a place that does not reek of bias against men. I do know of one organization, Stop Abuse For Everyone, whose mission objective is to help abuse victims who cannot find help elsewhere (like men). One of their resource pages list some centers in Washington that may be geared to help your guy: http://www.safe4all.org/resource-list/index?category=1 Best of luck to you both, and thanks for looking out…

Quite possibly. Men like to be perceived as winners, so don't want to admit having a less than ideal girlfriend/wife. I have always felt that men just don't want to complain about emotional issues. Not only will they not engage in womanly "venting", but I find it difficult to draw out my friends when their wives do some real crazy shit.

You keep repeating that you were trying to share a happy story, trying to make that the one and only point of your post. It is obviously not: How do I feel when people insist that society always accuses male caregivers of molestation. Why do you deny my experience? Perhaps I should qualify that as my personal take on men's rights activism. I am primarily focused on rights for men as defined by courts and government, along with media and other organizations whose agenda can be identified and changed. Issues like this - publicly criticizing or mocking someone close to you - are buried deep in the behaviour of every human. I believe the only way to effectively combat these problems is on the personal level, when you see it being done. Although this thread wil…

First, let me say that this has nothing to do with men's rights - women can act any way they choose. That said, this really bothers me. As part of my job, I watch over large groups of call center workers and overhear their conversations when they are off the phone. Bitching about their boyfriends/husbands is an extremely common subject for the women, and I never hear men do anything similar excepting ex-wives. These women do not respect the men they are currently involved with, nor do they reali…

I would not call it prior history, as I got it from the linked article which was obviously biased towards Urena - we hear from her and her lawyer, but nothing from him or his representatives. Those statements may be true, but her team would avoid saying what bad things Urena herself may have done.
/r/MensRights05/09/11 02:19 PM
2

Not a good comparison. It appears that Urena has plenty of backup for her accusations against Bailey - a call to the police, a restraining order, and his suspicious refusal to press charges when he was first stabbed. The second link could be the usual lack of interest in covering why a man would have done this (as opposed to how female perpetrators are treated). More likely short as it was news just breaking, however.

I am not sure what you are referring to when you question if reddit can manage things? The comment by allonymous is well in the positives to be seen by all, while barbadosslim is buried in the negatives. I would actually be more concerned for barbadosslim's right to comment on reddit, given the way reddit slows posting when getting downvoted. I would be, that is, if I thought he had something worthwhile to say. ;-)

That is all that I see wrong with it, too. Minor sexism like the line you mentioned is pretty common, so nerdrock101 was just pointing out that the whole exercise is pointless. Within 24 hours, she had made the first allegation of sexual abuse This drives me wild, and is one of the core reasons I am an MRA. So many women seem to be content to remain married to men who sexually abuse their children. Always a problem in /mensrights - here is the latest. A bitter jab at women, seeking justification out of the overabundant hatred for Feminists. You're right - it is bullshit. Perhaps it is useful to separate "Feminists" from "feminists". I love feminists. They often introduce their view by saying "I'm not a Feminist but...". Many times, and on many different issues. For example, there are many prominent women who identify as feminists but are rejected by the larger Feminist community - Christina Hoff Sommers, Camile Paglia, Wendy McElroy. You do not exaggerate. While I thank kloo2yoo for digging up the reference that Elam mentioned, it did cause me to wander around the site afterwards. And the misandry is unrelenting. The primary model used in domestic violence is called the Duluth Model, and it was very much biased towards male-on-female DV. Hello! This does not relate to men's rights directly. A lot of our members, however, encounter these kind of crappy arguments from Feminists when we try to bring up the subject of men's rights. Another one of my favorite gender activists, and you are right - Paglia can give you plenty of ammo against these Feminist arguments: If civilization had been left in female hands we would still be living in grass huts. @Fatalistic not a valid men's rights issue It is, because it points to a modern problem with birth certificates which definitely impacts men. The non-biological mother is suing because not being listed obstructs her obligations as a de facto parent. This "coining a new term" is downplaying the seriousness of it and who is to blame for it. If the author's intention was to downplay the seriousness of this issue, then he did a lousy job (and /mensrights wouldn't upvote it). No excuses were made for these women's behaviour. An outstanding article. It avoids unnecessary condemnation of women, even coining a new term to avoid "fraud", but this is a perfect approach for a mainstream outlet like MSN. Just as we at /mensrights get annoyed at "all men are potential rapists", so do women dislike the implication that they are all deceptive because of the actions of less than 4% of them. The first page establishes sympathy for the victimized men, and explains a principle of male biology (establishing one's own paternity ove…

This is a difficult case. The origin of the rumour is unknown, so we cannot blame Garcia for planting the idea in his mind (as Tracy Denise Roberson did). She did, however, choose to lie about the rape being true rather the continue to deny it along with (presumably) Torres. It was a self-serving act that she knew would seal the fate of Torres but may allow her to survive. They fear accusations of pedophilia, sexual assault, and rape. They are afraid of being victims to a woman's violence. Anger can motivate you, and most activist groups have their share. Depends on where you say it. Here in Canada, the shock value ranking is usually "dick" < "fuck" < "cunt", and it almost always refers to a woman. I have seen plenty of media from the U.K. and Australia, however, where "cunt" is said by men to men and often with no offense intended.

You are just re-enforcing gender roles. Not at all. I don't think that boys should be taught that it is a man's duty to shield women and children at his own expense. You are not a failure as a man if you do not emulate the very best we expect in a crisis situation. When you are a decent man whose gender identity is constantly vilified, it is a relief to see the positive masculine aspects of heroism and self-sacrifice getting noticed. However, I want to mention that there was a 12 year old girl, Nicole Kissel, who thought nothing of the danger to herself as she tried to rescue the boy. I only had one problem with the video. The friend and the flatmate both know the girl and should show their concern; if their friend thinks they are overreaching then it can be worked out. The bartender is required by law (here in Canada) to not serve alcohol to those who are too inebriated, so his interests require action. But the doorman was an asshole. Anyone aggressively shoving men who are kissing their tipsy girlfriends should expect to get punched often (with a few slaps from angry women)…

Most of us are concerned about the low regard for men, but I thought this was a collection of opinion pieces that did nothing to illuminate the situation or suggest changes. They seem mainly interested in proposing a new stereotype.

OK, that is three times in this thread where you say that a mere verbal "no" is insufficient and then given no explanation. And now you are clearly stating that "no" is not rape, that "no" and resistance is rape, but somehow resistance is not a requirement?

How many of us have this same friend? My friend didn't know his marriage was in trouble until she moved out and sent him the papers. He wanted to try; she didn't. He wanted the divorce to be amicable so they agreed to mediation. She chose the mediator, and the mediator decided that 85% of his income was his ex-wife's fair share. He got a lawyer then, but still had not quite accepted the red pill. That came the day she accused him in court of sexually abusing their daughter...

I always hate when those stats come around because they are completely irrelevant. If an honest and promiscuous woman has five possible fathers of her child, tells each of them and they get tested, then there will likely be four exclusions added to your stats. Sometimes it is a man who cannot be excluded as a father who contests that the woman had other partners. They would be tested and added to the count. And finally, those tests are ordered when there is questions about paternity. Most childr…

Absolutely brilliant! I tried something similar just recently. I wanted to see if I could get my own /againstmensrights post. I didn't want to spout some misogynistic crap, so I opted to see if I could get them to bite on satire. Every single paragraph contained an error in fact or logic but when conclusion matches preconceived notions people like MuForceShoelace do not argue content. Whether we end up amongst the Feminists, the LGBTs, the MRAs, or the Egalitarians seems to depend entirely on which gender(s) got the most crap in our personal experience. Sorry, no cookie - those are given out by feminists. How about a white belt in Feminist Fu? Seriously, the very first thing to come up in any debate with a feminist is the establishment of female oppression as fact. And the very first mistake is for you to engage them with a round of Oppression Olympics. The proper response is "Yes, but what does that have to do with the issue?". Unless your only intent is to annoy the feminist, in which case... carry on.

I am not sure why you posted this in /mensrights, but your comment history shows you are definitely not a troll. Dude #2 is pretty classic for someone who was indeed beaten as a child. I agree. Mensrights are always accusing feminist groups of manipulating statistics to fit their agenda, because they think that all women are liars and they don't want to lose their privilege. Are they? Because it sounds like only female-birth control is covered. That would not surprise me; I just said it should be on the list. Especially if something like tubal ligation is covered. Don't get me wrong; I was replying to the OP's title. Birth control is the only issue I was addressing. The rest of the act is a massive pandering to the feminist lobby and female vote.

But they dont work for women ....because?? Condoms work fairly well as birth control, but they really shine at preventing the spread of STIs. Everyone outside of a long term relationship should really use condoms. But they don't. Condoms literally block the sensations of PIV sex. Classic extremists - we will cut off our noses to spite our face. Birth control is fundamental to a modern society. I would say the latter. Why make a new subreddit and split readership unless there is something wrong with /YouthRights (which is not mentioned)? I don't advocate on this issue; I just want people to think about such divisive problems without dismissing the other side. The decision currently rests with parents, as it should when society is divided. And parents are increasingly siding against circumcision. Here in Canada, the rate has dropped from 48% in 1970 to 13.9% in 2003. Fighting against circumcision is not high on my agenda because it is a battle we will win.

I, too, am circumcised and have had no problems nor do I feel like I have been "mutilated". But I feel that the anti-circumcision movement has some definite points. Arguments for it include appearance, which would never be tolerated if it was about girls. Even bigger is that for religious and social tradition; again, this is not tolerated when the topic is FGM. It depends on the issue for me. The first link from overlogins just seemed to be her sympathy for flood victims - a good thing (if real). I am not sure if this is getting downvoted because it attempts to move WBB stuff out of /mensrights, or because it continue to support the collection of WBB stuff. I was thinking the same thing as theozoph. Somebody new posts a thread stating both his support and that of his future wife, and the conversation so far has been about why he should not be getting married. I agree that marriage is an extremely unfair contract for men, but telling someone you just met that they are living their life wrong is tactless and rude.

Irrelevant. There are 24K subscribers to this subreddit, and I presume that most of them are interested in men's rights. Financial abortion sounds all well and good, but it just doesn't seem feasible. And it is the best idea we have so far. Frustrating, isn't it? Most people want abortions limited to first trimester, and this is not a lot of time. Xavan512 is suggesting that you are trolling /mensrights to find somebody who will support Manhood Academy. Manboobz is a feminist website that publishes the worst it can find (or provoke, or misquote) from MRA sites. Modern feminism created the bulk of what they perceive as misogyny, and has no shame as it tries to foist off the angry men (and those who exploit them) as - you guessed it - the fault of men.
/r/MensRights26/07/11 09:42 AM

Upvoted for discussion, but I don't think a title like that will go very far. There are two main reasons I disagree with a male veto on abortion. The first is mentioned in the article - it is unfair to demand that a woman go through the extremely debilitating and sometimes dangerous process of pregnancy if she does not want to do it. It will impact her education or employment, and often leaves her body with scars and sagging. Pitting that against male angst is hard to argue. The other reason is …

One of the rare times when you and I are in agreement. There are a considerable number of MRAs who support feminism, but the majority see feminism in the spectrum from overly favoured to outright evil. I believe that you and I disagree on whether our majority evaluation of feminism is correct. ;-)
/r/MensRights24/07/11 10:23 PM

I had considered that. People who do not view gender issues as strongly as feminists and MRAs can easily get turned off by the strong language; both sides get ignored by the majority. You are right, though - I should not be so cynical. The latest entry is another attempt by a male feminist to backtrack on his horribly misandrist take on cuckoldry, one very common to feminism. To see the majority of comments taking him to task on it truly is refreshing.

Yes, the NSWATM blog did indeed comment extensively on the misandry shown on the The Talk. Their posts went up at the same time as they did on /mensrights, and they immediately took action to contact those responsible. They even got credit in the media for pointing it out. This is my biggest complaint against /mensrights - the continual posts showing a woman doing something bad. The moderating stance is that society does not hold women as being capable of violence and destructive behaviour, so these posts serve to argue against the stereotype. Anecdotal evidence proves nothing, and the readers of this subreddit are already convinced on the issue. So the women like yourself who would come to support us have to run a gauntlet of hate for absolutely no good reason. I…
/r/MensRights22/07/11 05:07 PM

You have got it bang on. While it perfectly ok to call out the bad behaviour of these boys, the misandry lies in tying it to testosterone - the "male" hormone. Instead of helpfully pointing out biological or cultural reasons why the boys are acting this way, it is framed as inherent to manhood. This absolves PZ Myers and society from having to do anything about it, as it is all the boy's fault for not behaving better.

"No Seriously, What About Teh Menz?" is even more offensive in my eyes - a bunch of feminists declare they are so worried about us menfolk.
