Phillip Zimbardo is a Ph.D, and a renowned psychologist. You're an anonymous armchair critic.

I would think it'd be even higher if he were trying to pick up women in a bar or club.

I feel like this might be something psychological for me rather than something reflecting reality. I.e. the girls who I easily "win over" I lose interest in quickly, although we could potentially develop a fruitful relationship. It very well could be. Is there anything in particular that bothers you about a girl that falls for you easily? What are you looking for, in the long run? Are you looking to "settle down," get married, and have kids? Are you not interested in kids? Perhaps my brain is no…

I really just don't agree. Even if there were a high percentage, I would totally disagree with the idea that it's some sort of disqualifier. I don't think you should be making judgments like that. The saying "don't judge a book by its cover" could not be more apt. You will miss out on so many potentially amazing women by doing this. I am not saying that you should go out and hit on and talk to literally everyone, and never ever pay attention to the way a person looks. I just don't believe that y…

Yeah. I had a friend that believed this -- I agreed with her at the time. She was fresh out of high school, and so was I. You don't really make lots of friends in high school -- it's too clique-ish. People tend to develop their views in the isolation of their group of friends.

Beautiful women are people too. Your viewpoint is one that is often held to justify being born less-than-perfect. Edit: changed to often held. I shouldn't be dealing in absolutes.

I used to have the same opinion as OP. Then I got out more. Flawless women are people too. I do still feel like flaws make a woman seem more "real," but to a much more limited extent. Part of it is an insecurity thing, from my perspective. It's a way to justify not going for the pretty girls, because you don't think you're good enough for them. I've squashed this one out of my system. I'd argue it's subconcious. Less-than-perfect women will hold this view too, as a way to feel better about not b…

I felt anxious from starting with " have you seen my friend " to "you look really cute. Whats your name?" You should feel anxious. You're inexperienced. Until you get experienced with small talk, you will always feel nervous when engaging in it. The only way to get better at something is by doing it over and over again. Keep making small talk. Keep making a fool out of yourself. It won't be long at all before you've got the small talk game down. From there, you should be able to make friends eas…

Dates are like interviews, just more fun. They're a screening process. If you aren't compatible, don't pretend to be someone you aren't just so you can get laid -- that's (partly) what bars and clubs are for. Recognize your differences, and if she does not approve of your sexuality, find someone new. If she's open about it, go right ahead and be open back. If she's shy about her sex life, you shouldn't respond by bringing up that you are sleeping around with dozens of women. Sex is one of those …

I'm not sure. The doctor that prescribed it to me suggested that I'd probably be someone that stays on them forever. I'm seeing another doctor now, however. I don't need them to live -- my depression isn't nearly severe enough, and even my darkest days are never very serious: my thoughts of suicide are just that and nothing more. But it's possible that I need them to think clearly, be motivated, and be as awesome to myself and others as I possibly can.

I do have more difficulty achieving orgasm, FYI. I also seem to be a little worse at being able to get/keep it up. I don't know how big of a hurdle it will be with my girlfriend (we haven't had sex yet), but I can't imagine it's something we can't overcome. It's not too bad for me. That's the extent of my side effects that I've noticed. I think they're quite manageable, and I am definitely planning on staying on them. Worst case, really, is that I start taking Viagra. I'd probably be ashamed of …

Dude, I haven't the slightest idea. I'm an engineer, not a psychologist :P It did take me a long time to find a doctor and a med concoction that actually worked for me. If you're having issues, it may take some time to figure out what works for you, but as long as you're headed on the right track, you'll get there someday.

I'd see a doctor. It's kind of how I was. I'd describe myself as feeling "meh" or "blah" all the time. It was just my norm, and I figured that was just "how I was." There wasn't any reason for me to be happy with my life or with myself, so I figured that was normal.

A lot of people see it that way. I'm sure I did at some point. In my opinion, doing what's best for you is more important than your pride. Yeah, it'd be a cooler story if I had pulled myself up by my bootstraps, but I'd take being happy and -- fuck -- having a girlfriend over some dumb story anyway.

It's not a joke. But what worked for me won't always work for everyone, of course. I don't care that my "happiness" is "artificial." At the end of the day, I'm happy now. I'm happy with myself -- which is pretty damn critical to seduction (if not being the most critical part). I've always been a good looking guy... but let me tell you: good looks don't count for anything unless there is some level of confidence behind them. You're also a lot more approachable with a smile on your face, which I h…

For me at least, if I'm out on a Saturday, I'm with friends. We're just looking to have fun together, and not looking to take anybody home. I'm a guy, but I agree with you. If I have a bad day at work, the first thing I want to do is have a few beers to take the edge off and vent to somebody. I'd imagine that women aren't any different when it comes to this, so there's good opportunity to make their day a better one.
/r/seduction07/05/13 04:06 PM

You're joking, right? Self improvement is at the core of seduction. If you have a flaw, and you fix it -- you now have one flaw less and are therefore more attractive. Things like this can have a negative effect on someone's confidence. Even if you're the most confident guy in the world, most people would agree that cold, clammy hands are a turn-off. If you have the capability to eliminate turn-offs, why shouldn't you? Boosting confidence is like taking medicine for a cold. It's treating a sympt…

I was depressed last year, and it was actually /r/seduction that caused me to snap out of it. I realized that the reasons why my life sucked — why I was terrible in social situations, never had a relationship, was bored with my life, and even shit like my poor performance in school — was my own damn fault. I see people on there obsess about the most trivial stuff such as sleeve length, etc. Okay. Have fun with your clothes that don't fit. There's a damn good reason why they obsess over stuff like that. It's not fucking trivial. You act like you've never actually spent a respectable amount of time in the subreddit. They don't squash personal style. You are a fucking idiot. Religion doesn't give you the right to discriminate against others. I'd dare say that you're the most hateful, intolerant cunt I've ever met. This isn't a war on religion. But you're too stupid to comprehend that.
/r/MensRights19/11/12 04:10 PM

God is "our father." Women are not allowed to teach or have authority over man. And the muslim side is even worse. The privilege? A woman is being denied a haircut, primarily because of the co-owner's religion. Remove religion, and you have a debatable argument -- the barbers are used to cutting men's hair, not women's hair. Here, a man is exercising his barbaric faith to justify discrimination against the opposite sex. Couldn't care less about this if religion were removed from the equation, bu…

Fuck. Do I really have to hold your hand? From the article: as a Muslim he could not cut the hair of a woman who was not related to him. Religion = male privilege I said it once and I'll say it again. If you lack the ability to comprehend that, it is your issue, not mine.
/r/MensRights18/11/12 06:04 AM

Jesus fucking Christ, you are an idiot. His religion is discriminating against women. That is the issue. Freedom of religion doesn't mean your religion is free to oppress the rights of others. Male privilege and Arbrahamic religion go hand in hand.
/r/MensRights18/11/12 05:54 AM

Intolerance against religion? You're a fucking idiot. This is religion being intolerant of others, not the other way around. Even if she did go in there with the intent to cause trouble, the religious justification for barring her from their service is complete bullshit. Someone has to challenge stupid shit like this.
/r/MensRights17/11/12 11:43 PM

The only reason why you believe she's a terrible human being is because she's standing up against a blatant case of male privilege. I normally agree with a lot of what the MRA community says, but nearly everybody in this thread is completely off their rockers. This is, first and foremost, discrimination being justified by religion. That is the primary issue here.

This woman obviously went there to shake things up [Citation needed] If there are famous clientele, wouldn't that suggest that this is the best barber shop around? She'd have to go to a second class barber shop instead.

Okay? What does that have anything to do with what I said? It is fine, because he's using religion as justification for his intolerance. Remove religion from the equation, and suddenly the problem disappears. It then becomes an issue of "we're not trained for this," and suddenly the intolerance disappears. But you don't seem to understand what the term "relevance" means. AloysiusC made the argument that religion is not a justification to discriminate against others. Then Apellosine asked if he s…

Barbarism? Refusing to give someone a haircut is not barbarism. Way to miss what's going on here. It's not just simply "refusing to give someone a haircut." It's not "refusing to give someone a haircut because she's a woman." It is, however, "refusing to give someone of the opposite sex a haircut because my religion says so." Using religion as a justification — the most barbaric mainstream religion of them all — is not okay. Also you seem to be saying that women's only businesses should be able …

People tend to take this subreddit at face value — there's a pretty massive sentiment that seddit is just a place for creepy guys to turn themselves into PUAs. There's a lot of good information in here though. MFA is the same thing. Taking MFA at face value, it's a how-to guide for looking like a yacht captain. However, there's a lot of good advice there that is style-agnostic.

You should be able to tell if someone's a complete waste of time pretty much immediately. You can just look at them — "okay, he/she doesn't meet X standard that is of monumental importance to me. Just because you met them at a bar doesn't mean that they're of lower quality. I really hope you don't believe this. If I had girl parts (pardon my awkward analogy), you'd probably describe me as the kind of person you're after — I'm book smart, have a wide vocabulary, blah blah blah. But since I go to bars, apparently I'd be disqualified. That's a bit unfair. Also, "some …

You're doing a valiant job of defending feminism, but you've sidestepped, avoided, and/or deflected many of my arguments. That's fine; both of us have rejected some of the premises upon which the other's arguments are based, and that makes it difficult to reach any kind of a satisfying conclusion. Then we are in agreement on what's truly important, although I remain skeptical of your "true feminists" assertion. You're probably familiar with the "no true Scotsman" logical fallacy. Like it or not, the public face of feminism is in the hands of misandrists. Meeting/failing to meet criteria is not a fallacy. Dictionary feminism and mainstream pseudo-feminism are separate ideas. I'd appreciate it if you didn't straw man the crap out of my post. Whether or not there are "real" feminists out there somewhere is irrelevant. The brand of feminism that politically correct society pays attention to and acts upon is of the mainstream variety. Mainstream feminism I'm not talking about mainstream feminism. I'm talking about real feminism. Truly seeking equality for women (which ends up bringing about equality for men, by definition). However, there is a difference between man-hating and feminism, but misandrists prefer to hide under the latter label. It's intellectual dishonesty, really. I don't agree with a lot of the PUA mentality -- the stereotypical "Oh, these women are just numbers to me. It's just sex." But stereotypes are just that. The whole seduction/PUA stuff tends to be largely misunderstood by both the people that promote it and the people that look down upon it. It's about self improvement at its core, which is a really cool and important idea for both genders.
