Concept 2 is the standard but water rowers (brand) are a thing. Most ergs are static, which means the seat moves. There are also dynamic ergs where the foot stretcher slides. Both exercises are non weight bearing and excellent for people with knee problems. Dynamic ergs are easier on the back. If you use a static be sure to put the fan dampener on low and get a good lesson on how to use the machine correctly so your back is protected.

I’ve done the Alaska thing, best to stay south, Kenai or Glenallen hiway area. Do NOT go to Fairbanks or the interior unless you want to meet some real trash weirdos. Anchorage and surrounding is basically a giant airport gift shop Personally I prefer northern Michigan UP. Rent a cabin near the lake in the off-season and it’s 1/3 the $, you have miles of deserted beaches all to yourself. I like cold weather tho.
