There is a matter of socialization in childhood. More boys play with Legos than girls => more boys go into STEM than girls. Another factor that I've heard, but haven't confirmed, is that when girls have a high aptitude in quantitative reasoning (like math or science), they tend to also have a high aptitude in linguistic skills. I could see this being the case in a primitive society, but when it comes to gender roles I think we have surpassed biology. Our society is such that the division of labor is not and does not need to be divided on gendered lines. Through sociological and technological advancement we have made gender roles obsolete. What is ideal for men is now also ideal for women, and there are ideals for both men and women that we should recognize as my longer necessary.

If Alice says "$subset is important" and Bob responds "$set is important", to which Alice responds "you must hate $subset!", it's not unreasonable for Bob, or neutral observer Charlie, to interpret "$subset is important" to mean "ONLY $subset is important." Because we're not a society of monsters, we've decided that we're not going to let babies starve, even if their parents are dumbasses. But you know what's a lot cheaper than baby food? Birth control. In an ideal world, yes, women would pay for their own birth control. But it makes fiscal sense to subsidize birth control. That being said, I would like to see a push for male birth control and for the ladies a shift away from pills and towards IUDs.
