Here is what more there is to explain to you, an angry simpleton: from OP's post we can determine that she gave up custody but still had an obligation to pay child support. So, in point of fact she still has something to do with the child - paying child support. She may have given up her rights of guardianship but she was not able to "sign over" all her rights as the court left her with the financial obligation of support. Thus she is tied to this kid until likely the child turns 18.

The fact that you resort to sweeping generalizations and can't parse information like OP's and mine and come to a reasonable understanding of the context and thus conclude there are a lot of variables unaccounted for explains a lot. With your anger issues it seems like you were lucky to even get joint custody.

This is so wrought with ignorance and misinformation. How callous to even say "when you sign over rights to a child" like someone just signed over title to their car when you don't have any back story from OP. Custody is about who gets primary Guardianship of a minor. Joint custody is shared while sole custody is one parent. When a court grants sole custody it does not automatically mean the other parent loses all visitation rights or is absolved from future financial obligation. There are plent…
