I think part of it is because the NPC meme is anchored in the idea of people repeating things they didn’t think out for themselves. Take the negative connotations of “racism.” Progressives aren’t anti-racist because they’ve thought the topic out rationally. My girlfriend once suggested dying her hair blue and asked what I thought about that. I told her that unnatural colored hair is the fedora for women, and that was pretty much the last I heard of it. She also once suggested cutting her hair shorter (I like it long) and I told her if she did I would grow mine out (she doesn't like long hair on men).
