The problem is that a group of people living in poverty, with poor education and limited ability for self-advancement, developed a culture that gave rise to gangs and the glorification of violence and criminal activity. If someone makes a comment about dentists, and you know that the general stereotype is that dentists would disagree with their comment, then it's entirely relevant to point out that you are a dentist who agrees with them. To get convicted of obstruction of justice, perjury, or the like takes evidence beyond reasonable doubt, i.e. the same thing it takes to get convicted of any crime.
