To each their own. I enjoyed it, and my wife loved it because it reminded her of her own relationship with her mother, which she found particularly meaningful. I would probably agree that Frances Ha (and probably Mistress America) are better Gerwig flicks.

Lol really? American Psycho, Zero Dark Thirty, Lost in Translation, Monster, Winters Bone, The Babadook, Lady Bird, Wonder Woman, The Farewell, American Honey, Selma, An Education, Hurt Locker.. I don’t know why I’m even justifying this.

What the hell is an objective review? On rotten tomatoes Little Women has a 95% critic score and a 92% audience score (not to mention a 91% meta critic score). Are you really saying that that many critics and audience members are faking it to push an agenda? Or is it possible that it’s actually a good movie? Spoiler alert, it’s a good movie.

Huh? 17-20% of directors are women (which itself is already a significant underrepresentation). If it was proportional we would expect it to average to one female nominee per year. In reality, women are 1.25% of nominees overall, 2% in the last decade (i.e., just Greta Gerwig), and 0% in the last year. That doesn’t sound proportional to me.

With only five women nominated in 92 years, you’re basically forced to make the argument that women are somehow inherently inferior directors without acknowledging that sexism is playing a role somewhere along the way.

She specifically says it’s the stereotype. You guys just can’t read.

That’s exactly what she’s saying, you’re 100% correct. Strange how a subreddit entirely focused on shitting on women missed the point.

Everyone is missing the point of her comment (probably on purpose given this sub) She’s not saying that men don’t want to see women-led action movies. She’s saying there is a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t want to see women led action movies. Its a little like how Hollywood put out almost no women led comedies for years, and then movies like Bridesmaids made a ton of money and Hollywood realizes its a viable genre and starts pumping out more. Hollywood had this stereotype that people did…

You guys never shut up but always talk about how your speech is being limited by people just asking that their realities and experiences be recognized. It’s exhausting.

You are one of those idiots purposely misunderstanding privilege again and again and again. Privilege does not and has never meant that everyone of that class are in some plush ivory tower. It means, is simplest terms, all else being equal, there are advantages to being X instead of Y in the discussed situation. Yet blockheads like you keep saying “how can white privileged exist if there are poor white people” or other such bullshit because the concept takes like 6 brain cells to understand and …
