Nope, haha! I'm just interested in what words mean and debate.

I'm talking about any two people. If there is bias against men during domestic violence situations, I guess your beef would be with officers on the scene?

I guess I was. Your disparaging tone made me think it was something you'd do.

Puzzling to be downvoted for trying to establish clear definitions of words like "assault" and "self-defense." I haven't downvoted any of your comments.

Perceptions are pretty important when it's cops doing the perceiving.

No. What do you mean, "cute"? If you're sitting at a bar and someone comes up and punches you, you could hit them back. Anyone coming to this scene will see it for what it is: two people hitting each other in a bar. If you block, evade, or leave, anyone coming to the scene will see this for what it is: one person being aggressive and another person defending him/herself.

I think you're underestimating how much it costs to raise a child. Clothes, books, sports, transportation, extra classes to develop their hobbies and interests, health and dental care--there's a lot more involved than simple rent and food.

No. Hitting is offense. Blocking is defense.

Hitting someone is not defending yourself. It's aggressive.

I tried to find a poll about why there aren't more male teachers, but a quick google search with a few different term sets was inconclusive. I don't think fear of being falsely accused is the biggest reason, though. I think low salary and social status is. I think it's why many men who do teach end up in administration. I'm very fortunate to have a male co-teacher who is beyond excellent with our students. The only he (with a wife and two kids) can afford to work at my school is because his wife…

Yes, because there is such an over-abundance of men in the teaching profession.

Preschool teacher here. How would grabbing a child's arm help with a tantrum? I'm seriously asking. The developmentally appropriate response for a tantrum is to wait it out, making sure this child and the other children are safe. It doesn't seem safe to me to grab their arm. I've dealt with hundreds of tantrums from typically-developing preschoolers to 17-year-olds with autism. Grabbing someone when they're angry is never safe. I have to re-certify in physical management every year, and most of …

Where on earth do you live that it's illegal to drop out until you're 18?

Hear, hear. The only reason I read this thread is to see whether anyone would say this. An earlier comment says: You gotta figure out what is going to make you personally the happiest. No. When kids are involved, you gotta figure out what is best for them. Is your relationship so dysfunctional that you can't both put them first, keeping them well away from your grown-up drama? Then stay away from each other. Kids have a hard enough time figuring out this world as it is. If you and she can both p…
