It's absolutely a culture problem. I realized in my mid 20's that the culture saw me as weak, emotional, and useless so I changed my personality to fit the mold necessary for success. I don't think it's being "afraid" of anything. The world is a tough place and men develop toughness to deal with it. Our culture looks down on weak, emotional, and overtly touchy men - not their fault but it is what it is. Can we change it? Maybe, but it breaks social norms and there will be backlash. You can absolutely use statistics as a predictive measure. Say one group is known to act in a certain way given circumstances, it's not unlikely that they will act that way as part of that group. We are social beings, we conform to group dynamics, we follow established patterns. I did get a job there. Company is notorious for getting thousands of applications for each position and also notorious for filtering out for affirmative action hires. 10,000+ positions open in the US so applying to 85 isn't a large %. I also applied to plenty of other companies in my field and got interviews and offers from them without having to do a fraction of the applications, this just happened to be the company I wanted to work for.

You bring up a good point. The problem is, no one gives a fuck about your feelings, so you bury them. If they stay buried long enough, they die. I have come to terms with having no raw emotion any longer because it clouded my judgment oftentimes and made me unstable. Other people will certainly feel differently, but in my case it has helped me keep a level head in heated situations. Now my only feelings are towards my son, at least I have kept that part of me.
