Yeah, some companies try to find ways around it. I used to work for a private company that did dispatch ALT (Assistant Language Teacher), but the contracts were for 50 weeks. Schools closed during the summer vacation anyways, so this way they avoided paying you for two weeks, and avoided the various legal requirements. That's still a fairly unusual situation that mostly affects foreigners, though.

This business of endless 1-year contracts in Canada/USA/UK is just so badly abused. One of the nice things in Japanese labor law is that if you work as a full time contract employee for 3 years or more (e.g. multiple 1-year contracts) you qualify as staff. They'd have to fire you.

Strict liability means that proving intent is not required. Not sure what Invader Kilz means here, though, since intent was not a factor afaict. You might see some disparity in sentencing if, say, a schoolteacher had sex with a student who he/she did not teach, and was unaware of who they were. Technically their position as a teacher at the same school places them in authority, and thus guilty (strict liability) but the circumstances might affect sentencing.

In this particular case, the prenup was sprung on the bride-to-be a day or so before the wedding and had extraordinary conditions besides. If the prenup was made 6 months before the wedding and was actually vetted by a lawyer it probably would have stood up. Personally, I agree that she should have called off the wedding (if nothing else, the crazy prenup should be a warning sign), but the judge wasn't totally wrong in invalidating the prenup.

Voat is a clone in some ways, but not all. It integrates a number of features that were RES-only. It adds things like anonymous/no-voting subreddits (chan style). There's a bit of a problem with this in Japan and false claims of chikan. You'll get some highschool girl and a couple of male friends shaking down middle aged guys on the train. She'll accuse the guy, the two guys will intimidate him, and the problem magically goes away if he pays them. You do actually see posts occasionally where the consensus is that the officer involved did the right thing and the post doesn't belong in the sub. The general advice of don't volunteer anything and don't consent to anything you don't have to is,however, still good advice. I'm a regular reader and occasional commenter in /r/Bad_Cop_No_Donut. The vast majority of commenters are not wishing death on all cops, or even wishing death on the officers in specific cases (though the latter does happen more often). You might argue that it was ultimately their decision to entrust their pictures to the iCloud but, as far as they were aware, their accounts were secure as long they kept up with basic cyber security practises. People aren't arrested for other crimes merely based on only an accusation. This also goes to the heart of the problem with pile-on accusations. Guys, if you're in a US college, don't have sex.
