I don't know if this is true in Canada, but in many countries "positive discrimination" is legal and in some cases encouraged by the government. Edit: it's legal in Canada Employers are also required to institute positive policies for the hiring, training, retention, and promotion of members of the designated groups.

I had a similar experience. My mom started a daycare when I was 12. I really enjoyed helping her with them. As I got older she told me to stop helping because "it's wierd you want to play with these kids." That hurt. It also explains why she pulled me out of a daycare when I was younger, not long after a guy was put in charge of my group. I really liked him. He was a great guy that taught us a lot.

It should be noted the victim told the court he didn't want her to go to prison. This is common behavior of abuse victims, but I wonder if the court would have done the same if the genders were reversed. I tried to find some evidence but couldn't. I believe this is more due to the amount and type of support female victims receive, rather than the court being sexist. If he received proper victum/grief counseling he likely would have petitioned for jail and moved on with his life and child.

It sucks but this is the reason, in a majority of areas the law reads some version of this statement. "A person needs to penetrate against someone's will to be charged for rape." So in this case, despite her obviously being a rapist, if a news outlet calls her a rapist they can be sued for libel because they haven't been charged for rape. No conspiracy. Let me preface this with me stating that I am not defending this. From what I could gather, in several states the clubs read the laws to mean there is no age restrictions for topless performers(of either sex), only nude performers. Since they haven't been shut down I guess they're in the right, legally speaking. It looks like Louisiana tried to put a minimum age of 21 but it is currently being appealed by club owners and employees.

As someone who was a victim of domestic abuse, I'm heartened that all the articles I read about this mentioned the stigma to come forward as a male victim. And stress it's not always the male as the abuser. Someday we will get to the point where society will see that both genders are capable of beautiful dreams and horrible nightmares. That the 'women are wonderful' effect is sexist in many ways and needs to go.

A second witness helps with any prosecution of a case regardless of the witness' gender. She got put away because she intentionally caused potentially fatal injuries on another person. This case is already in its second appeals court. Based on the article, it's a complex case with three prenuptial agreements in three different countries.
