First thing I noticed. Does she not realize this is the exact gender inverse of "Hey sweetie, why don't you smile more?"

I'm not a great fan of his tone and statements before he gets to the table in the middle, way too many echoes (and overt reference to) The Red Pill in there. But there is so much that he says which is good and reasonable. Berating him entirely while ignoring statements like these is obvious cherry picking: “Women” or "men" is not a meaningful category, since all women or men are not alike. “Gay” is not a meaningful category since all gay people are not alike. or As I have shown at every stage, b…

I see no hypocrisy here- they say white men are horrible and back it up by calling out a white man as a bigot. They might be wrong, but they are perfectly consistent and not hypocritical.

And we see Rwanda getting praised for its equality again. The country ranks highly on female labor force participation and other metrics because of the massive amount of men that were killed in genocides and war. There are so few men left that they cannot possibly be compared to other nations. Absolutely disgusting that Rwanda is held up as an exemplar for literally slaughtering men out of the equation. Equality through genocide!

I agree that over-applying the word 'rape' cheapens the concept and makes rape more difficult to discuss and eliminate. But, to be fair, this sentence of yours is also something that needs to be addressed: something traditionally considered a violent, heinous crime The concept of rape is always violent and forceful is also a problem, since most rape isn't 'strangers at knife-point' but is often 'acquaintance pressuring or threatening in a non-physically overwhelming way' or 'someone taking advan…

This is one of those times I feel like reserving any kind of judgment until there are a lot more information is very wise. The younger and younger you skew the more and more the age difference is a difference of maturity, understanding, recognition of consequences, etc. 13 and 11 are just not the same as 15 and 17. It could have been a very predatory encounter, it could have been young people all making poor decisions, it could be anything else we can tack on as a narrative. Very hard to know an…

Great personal account of body image issues and how irrational they are. It's a classic example of a problem that men are punished by society for confessing.

I find the antagonism of feminism tiresome as well. There are certainly awful strains of feminism that need to be critically examined. But this sub tends to focus only on the worst examples and ignore those feminist concerns that are legitimate. It's as bad as the many feminist discussions, blogs and subreddits that keep trying to shoehorn Red Pill stuff into the men's movement. Everyone needs to step back and stop treating gender discussions as a zero sum game.

I am amazed that there is no acknowledgment of the great number of men that really are just trying to pay to have a human connection on some level. It throws the entire narrative into question that this obvious part of sex work is ignored. The world of sex work is not all roses, and exploitation is not hard to find. I'm no fan of sex work in general, but it's painfully obvious with any cursory study of it that there are many that pay for companionship and not just sex (or even companionship with…

The only people I have ever seen drawing a link between TRP and Men's Rights issues are radical feminists that want to demonize Men's movements and refer to Red Pill things as Men's Rights things (while rarely or never bringing up actual MRA talking points). Perhaps I will start to see more TRP/MRA cross-over, but I hope not, since I'm no fan of hook-up advice and faux-evolutionary psychology getting mixed up in the ongoing discussion of gender issues.

Honestly, every time I hear someone say that men feel entitled to sex I die a little inside. Surely such men exist, but my personal experience is that women getting turned down act drastically worse. Honestly, I usually want to tell people something overly simplistic but powerful, like 'you've never seen entitled until you've seen a woman meltdown after getting rejected.'

You want me to put a Let Me Google That For You link on each of the mentioned items so that they count as 'sources' or something? With no offense intended, the idea that genitals, hormones and chromosomal sex can have issues should be obvious. You would not question the idea that people are born with all manner biological differences from scoliosis to congenitally missing limbs to Down syndrome to autism. If spines and brains can be biologically altered, why not genitals? Yet for some reason you…

There are dozens of medical conditions which can cause non-standard hormone profiles or chromosomal expression. Some examples include: Undescended testicles, androgen insensitivity syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, Swyer syndrome, and ovo-testes. These are just the examples that don't involve human interference in biology, such as circumcision errors/castration, eunuchs, or examples like Andreas Krieger (who may have been perfectly happy as a female, but was given large doses of male hormones for …

Other reddit threads I've read with this question tend to answer that gender dysphoria can be linked with distinct biological realities (chromosomes or hormones that are different, say) whereas racial dysphoria does not have such a basis in genetics or biology. There is sometimes a follow-on claim that gender is more socially constructed than race, and therefore more pliable to social reconstruction. Both claims seems simplistic to me. I think these answers leave out a lot, but that is what most…

Of all the things that modern gender philosophies have come up with, most are garbage, but the concept of intersectionality is really very solid thinking. Being a man, and being black, gets you a special extra layer of animosity and suspicion. Being a poor black man adds yet another layer of discrimination. All these categories interact and amplify one another in truly unfortunate ways.
/r/MensRights15/05/15 07:50 PM

Honestly, it's not that bad. The only part that I thought was a classic cliche is the idea that the man must always be the one to apologize and the implication that sex is a relationship weapon if he doesn't. Other than that, the 'demands' really aren't anything way out there.

You will find some excellent points made here. The best current science points to the fact that a circumcised penis causes real negative effects in exchange for very poorly proven and uncommon benefits. There is unquestionably significant sexual damage done to the penis when it is cut apart and the glans exposed. Because the ability of the penis to glide inside the foreskin is lost, it impacts pleasure for both men and their partners. This is very dense, but it is a description of some of the kn…

Feminism under that name started in roughly the 70s. It felt a deep connection to women's sufferage movements because sufferagettes also crusaded for women's rights. Feminism fairly early on started calling itself 'second wave feminism' and started calling these earlier movements 'first wave feminism.' Nothing ever called itself 'first wave feminism,' it is entirely a modern concept. Although it is certainly partly presenteeism (imprinting your modern worldview on historical worldviews) and co-o…

It's really basic logic for them. Rape and male oppression happens all the time and is real, therefore worrying about it is legitimate. False accusation and violence by women happens only incredibly rarely, so worrying about it is biased and reactionary. This is of course wrong, but it is at least consistent. Also, I have no love for redpill garbage, but generalizing and insulting them is only modeling the very behaviors you are speaking out against.

Without condoning the poster, it is worth remembering that although men and women are both raped and sexually assaulted with frequency, these things tend to manifest differently. Men (outside of prison) are much less likely to have a rapist rely on overpowering or physical force, alcohol and threats are much more common. Brute force physical assault is also quite rare for female victims, but it is far more common as a percent of victimization than it is for male victims.

Let me also assure you, along with others- any bullying you have experienced is absolutely worth it to not be cut. (Sure, I can't say that absolutely, since all these things are subjective). But your sexuality and your partner's sexuality will be radically benefited by the fact that you still have a skin sheath for mechanical lubrication and also all the amazing nerve density in the foreskin.

Most people are incredibly uninformed about circumcision. Most people have no idea that it is uncommon outside of the US, Jews, Muslims and areas of central Africa. He was obviously very misinformed as he thought phimosis was the normal state of things. We have to understand the point of view of people that have never considered these things, just like most of us have no real knowledge of most of the world's problems in great detail.

I think you'll find that most of the comments to you are fully supportive of your mature, informed, medically indicated decision. I certainly bear you no ill will and am happy for you and your wife. The opposite does not seem to be fully true, and in my experience rarely is. Men that don't care about being cut tend to be hostile and demeaning to those that do care. Main concerns: It may not actually have the benefits that are claimed. STI reduction, cleanliness and other benefits are controversial at best. The US is the only medically advanced nation that claims benefits outweigh harms- the Far East, all of Europe, Latin America, Canada and Australia condemn the practice as unhelpful. Inside the US, the medical community is very divided, there is very good research against, and not really any amazing studies that are for circumcision. Medical ethics, it is…

Was the phimosis caused or aided by retracting the foreskin early in life and breaking the connective tissue attaching and sealing the glans to the foreskin? Please realize that you are recommending a preventative surgery- which is not something we do in any other case than male genital cutting. Literally no other surgical procedure is routinely performed in the hope that it might prevent some problems that occur in a very small percentage of the population. Also, far less invasive methods can o…

There is no magic HIV cure Abstinence and actual monogamy clear up the vast majority. Eliminating needle sharing takes care of much of what's left. Realistic? No. But there is as close to a magic cure as can be had.

This is classic moral hazard. You give someone something that is purported to protect against a bad result and you get more risky behavior. Men in Africa that are told that they are now 'protected' from STIs and HIV (and don't really understand we are talking about a few percent reduction, if any) begin to have much more risky sex- less condoms, more partners. It's all bad.

This is a fact. Women in food binding cultures often had deep resentment at the lack of social mobility in marriage that came with having whole feet. (A lecture on foot-binding was the only time in my life I almost had to leave a room to allow my horror and shock to subside... it made me physically ill to come to understand it). The same is true of FGM, those women in cultures that practice it often have a deep reverence for the culture it implies and do not want it taken away from them.

Many guys like it, and that's peachy-keen. I met a guy that loved being less sensitive because it gave him greater stamina and his wife really wanted that. They are both very happy with the procedure (there was also a bit of 'it looked wrong!' from the wife, but that's a separate issue). The problem is choice. What can you do if you want it done later in life? You can get it done. What if you wish it had never happened? Too bad, go cry about it. This is a one-way street and I'm grieved that I wa…

Oddly it didn't mention menstruation issues, which is another area where women have a significantly greater exposure to regular sick time. It's a legitimate part of the wage debate that women face some biological barriers, such as child-birth, pregnancy and menstruation, that aren't looked on kindly by many employers despite fertility being vital to civilization.

At least she ended well? A classic story of the development of a mutually violent domestic situation, which as we know accounts for the majority of domestic violence. It's also a sobering reminder that every one of these mutual violence situations is very individualized. I'm totally comfortable with this (well, other than the patronizing nature of mandatory sexual misconduct quizzes, and the requisite male-predator female-victim). They make it a very clean example and mention that it is a 'potential' violation. Your unsympathetic response is incredibly common and harmful. Emotional hurt is laughable? You laugh that I was strapped down and had significant parts of my genitals cut off with a scalpel? I should just man up right? The fact that people like you chime in with 'I'm cut and im fine, I like sex, quit complaining' constantly is unfortunate. People sadly underestimate the physical effects of male genital cutting and overestimate the effects of female genital cutting. Neither is good and both are very damaging, but the point remains. I have been able to find very little data, but even in Muslim countries where clitorectomy is performed the best data that I can find is that more than 50% of the women are still able to orgasm from clitoral stimulation after the cutting. I have both pain and trauma and like you I do not remember my circumcision. I have realized that it has affected by sex life to an unknown degree and that both my wife and I feel less pleasure and desire because I was cut. I feel a deep and intense sense of grief and loss that something I would have deeply desired to keep with me was taken from me as a baby. It has caused me both physical pain from less comfortable sex and physiological pain from the sense of having been cheated.

Sexual Effects This is the most horrifying part of circumcision to me, and I had never heard anything about it until very recently despite studying human sexuality for a decade and a half. Circumcision has major impact on sexual interaction for both men and their partners, mostly from sensation loss and lubrication destruction. Sensation loss: A majority of the nerve endings in the penis, including the most fine pressure sensitive ones, are in the foreskin. You can see a heat-map style graphic f…

I agree with skepticism and non-judgment, but let's remember that police discretion about what to pursue can be badly biased and we should not assume that 'no legal standing' means that nothing occurred. There are many legitimate abuses that occur that have no hope of being criminally proven in the legal system. The real issue here is the time. Incredibly refreshing to hear a feminist give credence to the idea that constantly barraging men with 'shut up and sit down!' alienates them from allying with their ideology.

That line hit hard. Constantly being told that 'everywhere is a safe place for men!' and that ever mentioning issues from a male perspective is eliminating 'women's only safe space' is so obviously different to our actual lived experience.

I really want to get to know feminism and give it a fair shake. The movement has accomplished good things in the past, and even thought there are now many truly regressive and unhelpful segments of the movement, there are also beautiful and great things there. There are absolutely wonderful, balanced self-identifying feminists (CH Somers, Cathy Young and others). That said, /r/Feminism is very ban happy. Yes, very yes. I know it's difficult not to feel antagonisized by a lot of feminists, I know there is need to counter push-back from the worser elements in feminism. But we're never going to be given credit for being anything but reactionary if much of what we say is reactionary. As an aside, we should remember that not all feminism is wrong and not all men's rights' activism is right. This is precisely what I meant by my last bullet-point. There are relatively less invasive genital cuttings and extremely damaging ones as well. The best comparison will define the types. Though at the end of the day male and female genitals and sexuality are different, and we are faced with some necessary non-comparibility. I wouldn't want comparison to turn into a victimization competition.

I have been looking into genital cutting statistics recently and put together the following basic analysis of the rates of FGM and MGM world-wide. What your seeing is a simple spreadsheet of the population of various countries, multiplied by their reported rates of FGM in order to get an estimate of FGM prevalence worldwide. Below in bold there are some summary stats. Important take-aways: There are an estimated 168 million cases of FGM globally, there are 1.183 billion (1,183 million) cases of …

Brother I'm there with you. I've spent a lot of time on researching circumcision lately... it's really cast a cloud over my life. It's deeply harrowing to dig deeper and deeper into the history and culture around male genital mutilation. It's unspeakable. I am truly in mourni…

Katherine Young is a shining light. Feminism should set her on a throne of alabaster and put a scepter of gold in her hand and declare her queen-empress of the movement. I'm no fan of 'affirmative consent' because it does nothing to lessen the 'he said-she said' problem and to a lesser degree because it doesn't help define how much coaxing and convincing is reasonable and it doesn't represent the realities of sexual interaction very well (though that's all just cultural and we should be open to change). But on the face of it, 'yes means yes' is in many ways a better standard than 'no means no.' Honestly, I don't see a problem with the cartoon. It presents 'affir…

/r/mensrights certainly needs more positive, self-standing content and less feminist bashing. You are absolutely correct that feminism does have a big issue inherent in focusing on women's issues in developed countries. The same can be said for the MRM, we tend to focus on the same kind of 'micro-agression' level stuff sometimes and forget to talk about international genocide, slavery, child soldiers, etc. It's quite a natural fault though, and 'first world problems' are still problems- we all n…

Camille Paglia is amazing, especially when she calls out the fact the rape is in many cases driven not by some unintuitive concept of 'objectification' but by women's incredible sexual power. Disenfranchised men with poor control are driven to violently overthrow the script of social mores and female gate-keeping. But I'm amazed she brings it back to 'don't dress provocatively!' Which has been statistically shown to be nearly worthless as a predictor of sexual assault. Does she know something I …

I was only interested in hearing how rape was defined in the study. If it's CDC style 'only being penetrated counts' that explains the predominance of male completed rapes, if it's a sensible 'forced sex' definition, then that finding is much more interesting.

I just realized how true this is. I just watched the four talks about men that I could scrounge up. Each was some variation on 'Men have problems and issues! Like the issue you have that you are so violent and keep abusing women. That's what men are struggling with- a problem of a culture that systematically denigrates women that you need to overthrow, like, right now.' Thanks palette swapped feminism! I also don't see a problem here. Learning feminist theory is an important part of education because it is a deeply ingrained structural component of law, culture and relationships in the modern 'western' societies. None of that makes it necessarily correct about any given points, but it is an important ideology to understand.

I would never appropriate the much beloved 'derailing!' critique. Gender issues are gender universal, when you talk about men, you are talking about women and vice-versa. I love the fact that TED has such talks, and that it gives women and women's issues such a potent platform... I just also wish there was some balance on the scale with complementary discussions about non-female gender issues.

Even if we assume that this was the case and women had or have no more legal rights than pets or livestock, the legal details are not sufficient to tell us exactly what daily life was or is like for women. The whole exchange was a bit TL; DR, but the 'being told to smile' issue is one I find problematic. It's not that this isn't a legitimate issue for women, it is of course. The problem is that this is a classic example of the empathy gap for men. If you really want to know what it is like to have your emotional expression policed and dictated by society- try being a man sometime. Yeah, the problem is people do seek out pity-party victimhood status all the time. People fake illness, make up sad background stories, invent family tragedies and yes, they make up fake stories about having been the victim of a crime to get attention, sympathy and favorable treatment. This is just common sense and acceptable to say about any other social concern, except of course male on female sexual assault.

Apart from the obvious bowing down at the altar of feminist dogma, the article is solid. It would be nice to live in a world where mistakes were met with reprimand, not getting fired outright. I wrote the below quoted stuff in another recent thread on Utah-related father's rights recently and it is relevant here as well. The real issue here is that this man had clearly filed for paternity rights and claimed the child. The mother went to Utah from Colorado to have the baby in order to confuse the issue and get the child away from the father. I assume the thing that happened is that the Utah legal/hospital system could not see the CO paternity claim and proceeded to adopt the child out.…

The adoptive families are usually LDS families, the birth parents are less likely to be LDS (they are having kids out of wedlock). This means that children that many children that would be raised in a non-LDS environment are raised inside the LDS Church and grow up as faithful members.

I will happily do more research, since I'm not sure the legal details, but the right to adopt away without consent from the man exists only if the man has not filed for or claimed paternity. It is not surprising that a man has no rights over a child that is not legally his. It should also be noted the men in these situations have no legal responsibilities either. You can claim paternity after the birth for some period as well, though it is fairly short (a week?). If I am right this makes this st…

This is a classic example of a point that everyone needs to consider whenever there is claim of gendered harassment (or harassment based on any cause). The existence of harassment doesn't prove anything about why you are being harassed. A common refrain is that women in video games are harassed- on FPS chat channels say. This is of course true, there will be an enormous amount of horrible language and abuse towards any woman in virtually any FPS chat-channel. But the real question when it comes …

When I think about the historical and cultural context, I find myself realizing that 'kill all [ethnic group/nationality]' has a long history of actually happening, as does 'kill all the men.' Both of these forms of mass murder/genocide have a long history and have been the subject of plenty of justification by oppressor groups. You could even argue that they are normalized as a known and regular part of human action. I'm struggling to think of a time when 'kill all the women' wasn't viewed as p…

The common opinion was 'No, matriarchy is still just defining things in a gender binary, and I want to get rid of gender differentiation altogether.' The common opinion was so homogeneous that I can't …

Just the right critique. Let's also all remember that having more people chasing the dream of high-compensation, high-stress, high-hours, high-consumption jobs is not some unassailable virtue. Should we see more women in power jobs? Sure, if that is what they really and truly want in life. But overall society needs to swing back towards lower consumption, more work-life balance and greater sustainability, not more consumerism and prestige mongering.

But it's been known as well as social science knows anything that among the promiscuous there are fewer women than men. This means the casual sex girl sleeps with more men than the men sleep with women. This is why you have 'town bicycles' or whatever you want to call them. So, yes, it takes two to tango, but the girl who likes to tango can tango with 5 or 10 or 20 guys... it doesn't have to distribute evenly and be a 1:1 female:male ratio.

And even if it is awarded, that doesn't mean it will be paid. Small companies committing fraud can be sued for millions, and then the actual judgement comes out of an actual ability to pay (which isn't large because the income was mostly lies). So the actual amount that is paid is often a fraction of the award.

It's right in the middle. First, the category of 'false accusations' does not distinguish between accusers who lie and those who are honestly mistaken. Nor does it indicate that a rape did not occur, merely that the specific accused is innocent. The sad thing here is that if the pole isn't allowed to take on a new format and environment, it can never evolve from the space that these ideologues believe it exists within. If an aerobics class isn't allowed to re-contextualize the pole as exercise, not smut, (as the objectors frame things) then you are actually enabling the pole to remain a fixture of the culture you fight against. Why not allow people to re-appropriate the thing and erode its value as a symbol of the culture you hate?

I can't believe this isn't being celebrated here. $11M is a tiny expenditure and this is an important issue. Yes, there are cases where a rape kit is of low value (both parties admit that sex occurred, consent is the only question). I agree that focusing on the damage false accusation does to actual rape victims is a great tactic, but don't assume that everyone is so unreasonable they can't see the damage done when there is a false positive. Being large and strong enough to handle the job duties might be reasonably argued as a bona fide employment qualification. Also, gender is a protected class, but size. looks or strength isn't. That means you can legally advertise that a job requires you to 'look intimidating' or have certain size/strength levels. Yes, parental abuse is very real and very awful. It has many similarities with female-to-male abuse in that a class that is seen as protected and vulnerable lashes out and can then use the default social beliefs to shield themselves from repercussions, even to the point of weaponizing the stereotype of disadvantage. Yet here we see a woman standing up to obviously antagonistic, hateful and reprobate content we say "oh, that's free speech." Yes, it's speech, but it's speech that is horrible, wrong and degrading. Just posted this in another thread, sorry if there are some re-reading it. The age of the other girl puts her out of the range of pedophilia. I used to be able to cite numbers and studies, but cannot remember them now... sorry about that. Insincere suicide (acting out suicide while not actually wishing to die) is certainly a reality. But data about it is very hard to gather. We can assume that some completed suicides did not actually want to die, but they miscalculated dosages, lethality of hanging, ambulance response time, etc. Until we have technology that can read someone's thoughts in hours before death, we will never have accurat…

Unfortunately, it's quite rational for people to treat those accused of a crime differently. It's wrong and terrible, but it's rational. You have two states here, so four total situations, for a 2x2 matrix to understand it. Everyone is either accused or not accused, and everyone either has or has not committed a crime. Not Accused, Hasn't Committed a Crime: The vast majority of people fit this. Not Accused, Has Committed a Crime: These certainly exist, but without other information, these people…

Note: I did not read the entire article to get a sense of the overall tone. The article does seem more negative than the feminism entry. When you compare: Some of the earlier forms of feminism have been criticized for taking into account only white, middle-class, educated perspectives. The implication is of course that feminism has outgrown these errors. This sentence is also in the middle of the lede, not in a conspicuous position. Some MRM groups have been described as misogynist. Although thi…

Strongly in agreement here. This is a US trial, there will have been many hours of evidence from both sides that the jurors heard and deliberated on. Making any attempt to second guess the jury from a few hundred word article online seems ridiculous. The jury was fully informed that murder charges require a standard of proof that is 'beyond a reasonable doubt' and it is on them to have rendered their verdict accordingly.

Wow.... That back and forth is cringe worthy. This bit is particularly weird to me. They didn't omit anything - they didn't even touch the subject of violence against men I get that the mod wants a 'positive statement' about rape against men... I very much like your post, except the very first sentence. If the definition of rape is becoming too broad, then 'physical force overcoming physical resistance' is far too narrow. Requiring the victim to physically resist to qualify as rape is no good, removing threat, blackmail, coercion, drugging, impersonation as the rape method isn't a good idea either. One thing that encourages the definition of rape to expand is that rape is real talking point, it's visceral and emotive, but 'sexual assau…

As McFeely_Smackup says below, the criteria for the military to say that a report is 'false' is very strict. Most cases are not shown to be either 'true' or 'false,' they simply get closed. I say there are huge numbers of both based on the large absolute numbers, and also because the rate of both accusations and known assaults in the military is significantly higher than the rate in the US as a whole.

Yes, it would be better if everyone in a disagreement remained calm and confined themselves to counterarguments and refutations (see: Graham's disagreement hierarchy), that's not likely to happen. People are going to get emotional, and if you switch your arguments to responding to tone (really low on the above hierarchy), then you are at fault for cheapening the discussion as much as the person getting emotional is. Something that needs to be remembered whenever you are thinking about sexual assault in the military: there are two epidemics there. 1) There are huge numbers of false accusations of sexual misconduct. 2) There are also huge numbers of actual sexual assaults and rapes. It's like the worst case scenario for everyone. There needs to be much more effective methods of actually prosecuting violators, and we also need ways to sift through the maze of finger pointing. 100% agree. I didn't like the 'women have it worse' line, simply because I don't think anyone can objectively quantify the mass of issues and make some stupidly simplistic 'this is more, this is less' assessment. Hook-up culture exists for a lot of reasons, and the article makes a point of that. The feminist movement definitely is one of those reasons. Feminists tend to not like marriage, monogamy and women 'attached' to men. Women's choice, and the choice to be promiscuous, is now and then a major focus. I find it sad. Human culture has been operating on a premise of long-term, committed male-female relationships for thousands of years. It's been a core underlying construct of every single remotely larg…

From physical evidence it is often extremely hard to differentiate consensual sex and rape. The difference, by definition, is consent. What physical evidence is left by the act of consent itself? Unless there is a witness or an audio or visual recording going on, I don't know of any way to actually produce evidence of consent itself. The two are not mutually exclusive, they both currently exist and thus are proven to not be mutually exclusive. There are certain factions in both that are extremist and are simply gender supremacists in disguise, male and female supremacy are obviously mutually exclusive. Are you libertarian to the point that you don't like the 'interference' you see the MRM causing to a hands-off ideology? Assuming that "Feminism is about gender equality and bettering gender relations and the way we as a society think about gender." then its gendered name doesn't make a lot of sense. Feminism is (or should be) about gender equality, but by nature and history it focuses on those issues which disproportionately or negatively affect women. The Men's Rights Movement is (or should be) the analog to this. A movement focused on gender equality that focuses on or highlights issues that disproportionately …

The term for 'slant' as you are using it could perhaps more easily and properly be called a Zero Sum Game- a game in which a gain in one area must be offset by a loss in another. You could even more properly talk about this by calling it an opportunity cost- the opportunity cost is a benefit that is forgone by choosing a particular path. The opportunity cost of taking job A is that you do not take any other job, that is, all other possible jobs are each an opportunity cost of taking job A.

I've also worked in an with coders for some time and yes, I think there are often comfort barriers for women to get into these fields. I'd…

Braw werk lad. Yes, the kerning is weird, but the sans serif, red and black format is great. You definitely hit the nuance well, 'doesn't always equal' admits that you can have regret and rape, you also admit rape is a terrible crime and fully acknowledge what is actually is, you point out that both rape and false accusation are horrible things. The dichotomy about 'rape is not a choice, regret is a choice' is very solid. I assume your target audience is female, but you remain completely gender …

You dodged the bullet ugly bi-sex bro. Friday night saved my bacon too.

Starting watching thinking "man, I usually don't make it through videos over 1 minute...." Then I watched the entire thing. No wonder she has two recommended books in the side-bar. This is the gold-standard of academia and feminism. She's open to critique of her views and strongly in favor of equity, not gender feminism. Sadly, I think this subreddit often forgets that equity feminism exists and has perfectly reasonable and legitimate goals. She's also dead on when it comes to highlighting the d…

But how far do you take that logic? Do you only charge people who actually get into accidents? How much extra do you charge them? If you haven't 'overcharged' others who have not gotten into accidents, then you have to charge the person who got into the accident the full amount of the accident's damage, right? After all, the person caused this much damage that now has to be covered. Wait a minute... paying the full damages only where there is an accident is the exact same thing as not having ins…

If all else is equal then yes, I would agree a company can charge more for any attribute- from eye color to ethnicity. The insurance company had a fiduciary responsibility to safeguard reasonable profit, without profitability the insurance company cannot provide an important, ethical service in helping clients cover large unforseen costs that we would otherwise be unprepared for, because statistically speaking we simply aren't going to save up over time to cover car damages. For point deeper in …

If, all other things being equal, insurance companies can demonstrate that men have more accidents than women, they are justified in charging more to men. Please note that the condition that all else is absolutely equal is vital here.

The second quote doesn't bother me at all. It's true. Look at a negation test here: "The mere fact that someone did not pursue a complaint or retracted it, is evidence that it was false," (quote changed, with emphasis). This is obviously bogus. Just because a claim is retracted, or the claimant doesn't follow-up doesn't mean the claim is false. People may retract a claim of rape that is true for many reasons (coercion/fear, lack of resources, embarrassment, belief they can't win, apathy). Theref…

My feed gave me this: http://imgur.com/IwyBW91 Right on top of each other and radically divided discussion on both boards of course. The article is actually quite moderate and very respectful of the serious nature of false accusation, I see no statement that guilt should be assumed in the article, at all. I don't like the rather incomplete numbers in the article- talking about prosecutions only does little to represent the prevalence of actual rape versus false reports. To get a more complete pi…

as soon as any negative talk about men started, I'd get up and leave. After I did this four Christmases in a row, they listened. Wow. That must have been an intensely hard line to draw in the sand and stick to. Just amazing. Did you leave short-term (hours, a day) and then come back? Did you walk out entirely and call again much later (days/weeks)? Do you live at all close, or did this mean long travel both ways? Also, let me just say I'm grateful for you. I think most of us here very strongly a…

I actually quite liked this piece: http://feminspire.com/dealing-with-rejection-as-a-fat-feminist/ Because she avoided the blindingly obvious hypocrisy that Crunktastic completely botched. Noor Al-Sibai on Feminspire makes the right statement when she says: everyone, regardless of gender or orientation, has the right to say no. Consent and anti-rape activism are a huge part of my feminism, and I would never, ever deny that someone can and should say no to me if they’re not interested for any rea…

This is exactly what MRA needs to be. Intelligent, well-written, as comprehensive as time and length allow and most of all non-abrasive. I'm often saddened to read things on here that are good facts wrapped up in ad hominems and acrid insults. This is the good stuff.

Answering you in detail a PM to avoid derailment. Short (and simplified) answer: Yes, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) affects your testes, they will stop producing testosterone naturally and a vast majority of men also become infertile while on TRT. It is advised you come off direct testosterone replacement every 3-6 months if you do not want the risk of permanently impairing the testes sperm and tesosterone production capacity. While off direct testosterone, you can use other more sophis…

I was shocked. I managed to make it through the whole thing. From about 3:18 to 7:08 she explains what a horror female genital mutilation is (it is truly a nightmare practice). Then she blithely goes on to advocate forced castration as a wonderful, amazing practice that would be oh so beneficial to society. How can she not see the blatant hypocrisy of actively advocating slicing off male sex organs and while condemning female genital mutilation? Does she really think that saying 'oh, I want to m…

Forgive me if this has been stated in the thread and I'm just rehashing, I didn't have time to read everything before bed. Yes, this is sexist, because it is targeting one gender. That's the definition of sexism. Yes this is a non-gendered issue and a gendered response seems odd. But let's remember two counterpoints: A) Although the issue itself is non-gendered, the culture and information around the issue may be gendered. Hypothetically, if 100% of men were aware of and able to recognize heart …
