It's true that we hear about the negatives much more, but I believe it's because those negative exceptions are where the problem lies. By way of comparison, most people don't steal, but we have a lot of technology and training about how to avoid, mitigate, and recover from theft. They "blinded" the resumes in a very weird way, still apparently assigning masculine or feminine seeming names to them rather than leaving any possible indicator of gender out completely. They also removed any mention of race but the article had nothing at all to say about the effects there. Would be curious to know if that had any impact as well.

Personally I agree. Just because you're impaired does not relieve you of personal choice or responsibility. Assault is still assault when drunk, drunk driving is not given a pass due to impaired decision making, and drunken sex should still be considered consensual sex. My personal test to determine if you're being "-ist" is thus: replace the subject of your statement (men, here) with another class and see if it's now an obvious "-ist" statement. The easiest in today's climate is probably "black people" to see if the statement is now racist. "No, abusers are mainly black people - not monsters" is clearly racist.
