My cousin and uncle both committed suicide. To characterize the pain that they felt that drove them to commit such an act as “patriarchy” is one of many reasons I refuse to even speak to people like this. I work in aviation and follow the assorted Facebook groups that are relevant to my employment. Posts like these are a regular occurrence, and I can’t help but roll my eyes. I enjoy working with female pilots and flight attendants, but the celebration of something that seems to me very normal seems strange.

I’m a pilot, and this is not far from the truth in the wake of a hard push for diversity among our pilot group. I’ve been passed over for jobs in favor of female candidates, even though I’m equally (if not more) qualified. Don’t get me wrong, the FAA is very stringent when it comes to ATP (airline transport pilot) certification minima, but once those are met, the girls go first. It's one thing to seek therapy and take the drugs, but actually implementing what you've been told is another. I've always struggled with depression; I've taken the meds, been to therapy, taken the tests to see if I'm a basket case...but one thing and one thing only has actually helped me...and that is the decision to use the tools I've been given to better my mental state. I have to decide that today is going to be a good day, much in the same way you have to decide to get up and move on.

I completely agree. I never knew it was like this until I met this girl (left). I never would've spoken to her had she not approached me and basically made me talk to her. One of the most genuinely sweet people I've ever met. She loves making new friends and she actively includes everyone. If she hadn't have approached me I would've gone about my business just assuming she was a conceited turd.
