Slowly phase him out man. Get comfortable with doing the things you want to do alone for a while. He might not be a bad guy but its draining you physically, emotionally and financially. Its never too late. Id recommend starting with some bodyweight exercises first and start running. Get your foundations first before signing up to a gym. Lat pull downs are great but a chinup is more practical and useful in an outdoors setting. You can do this 💪🏾

Treat rehab as a seperate thing from training. Do the rehab exercises first then do your strength training at like 50% of what you normally do ( as a ballpark figure) its about finding the balance between recovering from injury (swelling, breaking etc) and maintaining function (strength, stability, mobility)
