What I would add is that it's less important that she actually likes you (it's difficult to know that as many people are reserved in this case) and rather it's important to see if a woman has good values. As you correctly mentioned, clues can be picked up from afar: example a woman blasting music in a busy train certainly isn't a good woman and therefore isn't worth approaching.
