| 1 | Next time try supporting your own?Except, like I have previously established, for so few women to be nominated over 90+ years, they have been intentionally disregarded. That is discrimination. It isn’t just underrepresentation because they have been purposefully blocked from getting to the same place for the same quality of work. Again, the goal is to be about the work, but if it was actually about the work then there would be a balanced mix of those who produced it. Women would be at least 50% of the nominated body if it was ba… | /r/PussyPassDenied | 13/02/20 08:11 AM |
| 1 | Next time try supporting your own? That isn’t discrimination. Going “out of our way to recognize” means exactly what I wrote in my second comment. Making the extra effort to recognize those who have been systematically ignored is not discrimination. Giving voice to the voiceless is not discriminating or punishing those who have had their voices heard. | /r/PussyPassDenied | 13/02/20 06:28 AM |

If we were actually judging films by their merits at least 50% of nominees would be women. No one is being punished if women get equal recognition. It’s that extra effort needs to be made to put a spotlight on women’s … | /r/PussyPassDenied | 13/02/20 04:39 AM |

That is far more sexist and void of equality than nominating a female as an act of leveling the field of recognition. There is absolutely 0% chance that over all this time there simply hasn’t been that many female directors creating awards-worthy work. If it was a merit based system like you’re proposing we’d have had hundreds of female nominees at this point. For history to have played out th… | /r/PussyPassDenied | 12/02/20 10:55 PM |
