I was going to ask for consistency, but it was easier to unsubscribe.

/r/Funny isn't funny, /r/Conspiracy isn't about conspiracies, and /r/PussyPassDenied is no longer about pussy passes being denied. Hooray mods!

Whether it's regarding public or private matters, and allowing for the accurate context, I think I would stick with my "if you don't want people to think you're an asshole..." principle. Whether you are comfortable incentivizing/policing people's language and actions in that way is a matter of personal taste. Good talk!

I voted for Hillary but I think the DNC leaks were fair game: if you don't want people to know you're an asshole behind closed doors, don't be an asshole behind closed doors. She also deserved the votes she lost for the comments she made about needing to hold "public and private views" that didn't always necessarily converge. To really caricature it, what if he had said something much worse? What if he admitted to murder, treason, or pedophilia?

If Adam tells Becky some shit that gets me blackballed, shit I said to him in secret, I'm beating his ass. That was a private convo and it's not right to just disseminate that. I'm curious why you think repeating what you said is not justified but beating him up is? Surely you understand that one of those things is illegal, and it's not the one that happened to you. Maybe someone was a total shithead at 15 or even 20, but now they are peerless in political science and diplomacy And they have the…

What do you mean by taken out of context? I don't believe Trump's words describe a sexual assault, but even in the context of a private conversation with another man his lack of prudence shows a disregard toward others, an over-inflated ego, and a general ignorance of consequences for one's words. Our leaders should be the best of us and those are not qualities I would choose in an elected official. As far as how that applies to you or me, the court of public opinion is and has always been a rea…

When you say "we" are you really speaking for everyone here? I'm almost sure your comment is satire, but I'm invoking Poe's Law.

Truthfully, I'm not a sports fan and it looks Wooden's tenure was just before my time, plus I grew up on the East Coast and went to a small liberal arts school where college athletics were not really a thing. The sum of my knowledge about him before today was limited to this quote, and I'm pretty sure it's because I heard it in some movie.

Wikipedia page that you visited yet apparently didn't read You're totally right, I have better things to do than read an entire wiki page, that's why I searched for key words and scanned the rest. You are free to think whatever you want, it's no skin off my back.

Do I really need to find an elected official whose record is similarly spotless and has wealth comparable to Trump? Mitt was pretty rich but the worst thing they got him saying on tape was the 47% thing.

The man cheated more than any coach in collegiate history. I'm going to have to claim ignorance on John Wooden's cheating. A search for the word "cheat" on his wiki page turns up no results, and a search for "scandal" returns two instances: one about the UCLA football team and one about Villanova. I'll tell you what his wiki DOES say though: "Wooden's prolific coaching career and overwhelmingly positive critical acclaim has created a legacy of great interest in not only sports, but in business, …

That you lack discipline and have a penchant for instant gratification, even if it results in long-term...irritation?

I think the words show a disrespect for women, but taken in context fall short of illegal sexual abuse. As far as whether some women were made uncomfortable by Trump's advances, I'm sure you can read testimonials and make up your own mind.

This is all fair. It's not the complete picture of who he is as a person, but I think it IS a reflection of his character, and I put more weight in the recording than in his Tweets proclaiming respect for women BECAUSE he thought nobody would ever hear it except Billy Bush, whereas the Tweets are manufactured for a mass audience.

Yeah, it's weird how a decorated coach responsible for shaping young minds and a proven leader who guided many teams to success has some good quotes.

I have a different view from /U/Snagpole1: My issue isn't that a rich & powerful man said women throw themselves at him and he takes advantage of that. It's that his lack of prudence shows a disregard toward others, an over-inflated ego, and a general ignorance of consequences for one's words. Those are qualities I don't want in my president.

You heard about it? Also, the noun was plural, and the context wasn't matrimonial.

Obviously the quote is subjective, and if you disagree that's perfectly fine. I recently read a great column about how an ever greater test of one's character is what one does when EVERYONE is looking.

I don't understand your point. Do you think only the perfect among us should levy criticism? Surely that would render our criminal justice system inoperable.

I get what you think you're saying, but claiming to identify as a woman and identifying as a woman are two different things, in terms of evidence.
