The treatment is transitioning because there currently isn't a better treatment. Doesn't mean it's bigoted to think we should be working towards one. As treatments for mental illness go, transitioning isn't a very successful one, but scientists didn't stop trying to treat depression when they discovered the therapeutic value of electroconvulsive therapy.

Did I misunderstand something? She got 10.5 years in prison AND THEN 9 years probation, correct? Because the way they phrased it - talking about her community service hours and mandatory AA meetings - made it sound like they were giving her a suspended sentence.

Communist revolutions have been (without an exception that I'm aware of) the result of popular uprisings - not some dictator imposing it upon the people. They were all the will of a majority of the population, usually in response to unregulated capitalism that created enormous, unsustainable wealth inequalities. Communism is an economic system. That's it. If people choose to stack totalitarianism and dictatorships on top that has nothing to do with anything. If they disregarded the economics of communism they are no longer communists. There is no residual "politics and ideologies". There is authoritarianism they they did not get rid of. Communism and totalitarianism have often gone hand in hand through history, but there is absolutely no reason they have to.
