Man, the only way to let go of that anger I have found is to look forward. I have to fill my life with activities and plan for the future by setting goals in what I want to do and accomplish. If I don’t do that, it’s super easy to slip back into thinking about the past, that’s when the anger can start to creep in, which leads to me thinking about hoping failure for her, which is just really wanting revenge, which leads to me wondering if she’s having failure, and on and on and on. So, I just foc…

I think it helps. Therapy isn’t a magic pill and it does require effort on your part. They can help you sort your thoughts make the venting you do about your ex more constructive and they can give some idea about issues with your ex just by hearing your side of things. But, they will not call it a diagnosis by any means. I have found it useful just to be able to talk about it. I was in therapy for about a year before I felt like I didn’t need to go anymore.

You made her the center of your world man. Woman say they want that, but they don’t. They lose respect and attraction for men when they do this. You need to realize you did this, own up to it, make the necessary corrections, focus on yourself, and be ready for the next relationship.

I have been told that constantly talking about it gives it energy, at least with friends and family. I do believe that’s right. Plus, it does alienate people from you. Vent all you want in therapy. The therapist will guide you through it and make it constructive to help you heal.

I did at first. But it just made people uncomfortable. So, I stopped unless people ask me something specific. Even then, I’ll only answer that specific question as briefly as possible. I do vent to my therapist though. It helps for a little while. But, I’m actually getting tired of it myself. Maybe that’s a good sign that I’m finally getting it all out.

I’ve been here man. It sounds like she’s down and wants it be your fault. I went through the same thing, tried to get her to go to counseling and all the things. Once they are done, they are done. Now they just want it to be your fault so they can play victim. It’s all manipulation. Do what you need to do. You know this woman, you know in your gut if she’s done. If you know it, don’t waste anymore time and money. I would change my attitude from trying to save this marriage and go all business in…

Same here, wife walked after 27 years. Best thing to do, as hard as it sounds, is to let her walk. Don’t beg, chase, or plead. All it will do is push her away more and cause you to lose your dignity. Let her walk and get ready for the divorce. That means you need to protect yourself and your kids. Get a lawyer and get ready for the worst. These things can turn nasty very quickly. I would go grey rock with her and only discuss business type things with her. You may even consider recording all con…

This thread is a great read. Rock on gents! Show that indifference, rebuild your wealth, and go forth and conquer!

Yup, been here man. I didn’t want it either, but once I knew her mind was made up. I got proactive. Protect your finances, separate your accounts. Put holds on them. Change passwords. Shit is about to get real. Lawyer up. You can grieve later, and you will. You are in a battle now. Do t sit around and let her dictate everything because you’re hurt and devastated right now. I know you are and it sucks. We’ve all been there. But if you don’t protect yourself now, you’re going to feel even worse la…

My ex did learn the hard way that when you pull money out of a retirement account you have to pay taxes and a 10% penalty. I did enjoy that moment.

Who cares man? The best crash and burn you can give her is your indifference. Get there and she will rue the day. And the best part is, you won’t give a shit.

There isn’t a pot of gold at the of a divorce. You’re going to lose half your assets which could put your business at risk. Child support isn’t cheap. You’ll probably not see your kid 50% of the time. Depending on what state you live in you might have to pay alimony. Lawyers are going to cost you a lot of money. Then once you get done, the dating now is a complete shit show. The grass definitely isn’t greener on that side at all. Oh, did I mention co-parenting with your ex is just so much fun. I…

I WFH as well. It can make meeting new people hard. The therapy helps. It takes time though. At first I did think it was helping and stopped for a while. I wish I hadn’t stopped. But I have resumed and am going to keep it up.

Yeah, I wouldn’t pay that. I agree though, once you say no, shit is about to change. Lawyer up!

I’m about 1.5 years ahead of you with a similar story. I remember being right where you are at. I’m not going to lie and say things are perfect now, but it is much better. I’ve had to get intentional and active about healing from it. I think the hardest part for me was grieving the loss of my identity. Things that have helped me. Figuring out who I am now, still working on that one. Forcing myself to go do things alone. Forcing myself to do new activities. Forcing myself to go to the gym. Doing …

The false narratives for sure. I just had to learn they didn’t mean anything and that people are going to believe what they believe.

Wow, you handled that much better than I think I would have. So sorry you’re going through this. But, at least you have clarity. Time to move forward to a better life.

But there is something to be said for being done. I would just pay her off and be done.

If it’s not contested you can file everything yourself on line. The lawyers did do this for me, but I could have done this as well. The biggest thing was the decree for the divorce settlement. After I saw what they wrote up, I’m sure ChatGPT could have done it as well. My finances were simple to split though. A 401k, an IRA, an investment account, and the equity in the house. We didn’t feel the need to include household items, furniture, etc. we could agree to that outside the court. So, we kept…

Knowing what I know now. I could have done it all with out a lawyer and ChatGPT and saved myself the $3k

I did an uncontested divorce with my ex in Texas. Our kids were already adults so didn’t have to deal with custody or child support. The ex and I agreed on everything, I had a lawyer draw it up. It did cost me/us about $3000 for the lawyer to do it. The lawyer submitted it to the court on a Tuesday and I was divorced on Wednesday . So, I think if you and her agree and she signs all the papers. I think you’ll be good. But, don’t delay. If she lawyers up, it could change quickly. I believe there w…

Man, it’s still pretty fresh for you. I get it. I was right where you were at, maybe worse because mine handed me the divorce right before I had to go through 3 brutal surgeries that I had to endure alone. Fast forward 16 months. I have been doing all the things. Gym, therapy, travel, friends. I’ve also started mountain biking, lost 30 lbs, started a podcast, taught myself to play the drums (not very well), and I’ve been dating. I just kept pugging away and have to look back at all I’ve done. Co…

I’m just over a year out. I still struggle on days with emotions. But, I look back to where I was last summer and I’m loads better. I’ve been traveling as much as I can. I stopped drinking all together, wasn’t a huge drinker to begin with. I lost 30 lbs. I started mountain biking again. I bought a drum set and have learned how to play them, although not very good. I’ve also started dating. Last summer it was hard to get out of bed, hard to stop crying, hard to control the anger. So, I can’t wait…

Man, it’s all about the diet. You can’t outrun your fork at your age. Gotta get a grip on the cravings. Have a cheat day where you cheat a little bit, but not much. After a few weeks it will become habit.

Yeah, that was my ex. Learned later about attachment theory. If you have looked this up it may help explain some things. Sounds like an avoidant to me.

It is amazing how many years these women can keep the mask on. I was married to mine 27 years before it all came out. But, as men we have to take some accountability as well. Deep down I think we all knew our exes were this way, we just tried to ignore it and hope for the best.

I agree with this. Therapy and exercise. Also try to pick up or re-pickup a hobby you enjoy or at least you think you will enjoy. It will be difficult to enjoy much right now, but make yourself go do it. The therapy will help with unlocking your issues and how to be happy with yourself. I can’t speak for your scenario, but for me I had to realize my issues before the final demise of the marriage and focus on me. Yes, I was angry at my ex for her behavior and the way she treated me. You can use t…

I went through the same thing. It will get better. Hang in there. I know how tough it is, trust me. I’ve heard all the sayings in the beginning of my journey as well. Move on, focus on yourself, day by day, see her for who she really is. It was hard for me to believe all that at first. But, it’s all true! That’s what it takes to heal.

Therapy man. It will help. It’s gonna be rough. A divorce coach can help accelerate the healing process. But, they can be pricey.

Yeah, I went through this. Work on yourself means I want or already have someone else and you’re in the way. Don’t spend any money on her, I did that, and it was a waste. Get a lawyer, get your finances in order, file for divorce, and protect yourself. She is not to be trusted at this point. I know it hurts and you feel lost. But it is critical that you get clarity on what is going on. She is months if not years ahead of you in this game. You can hurt and mourn later. Right now, you need to prot…

I had to stop drinking. Workout daily. I went to therapy. I also got hooked on the ‘Get your ex back’ vids on YouTube. Don’t watch them, they just give false hope and delay your healing. So, I had to quit those.

You’re gonna lose at least half of your assets. I did and it hurts. Even though you say you don’t feel anything, you will still feel a huge void after the divorce you will have learn to deal with. There is no pot of gold at the end a divorce.
