I believe what I originally said is the most mild reply. Cursing and insulting them while throwing clothes on the floor(that someone else, not them, would pick up) in my mind, would be 3 notches over the top.

She's pretty shy so she just did an awkward chuckle at both comments. She doesn't think I should have to pay for stuff that she wants for herself. In fact she randomly buys stuff for me more often. I have to tell her not to, and save her money. She's got a bad habit with shopping.

No you would be a terrible parent if you physically engaged a child the way this man did to that woman. Assuming we're talking about a young child, then no you wouldn't need to "attack" him for him to learn a lesson. You don't teach kids to fight violence with violence. If you really can't think of a better punishment than that, please don't have children.
