In the UK if you have a child with a woman and she puts the name on the birth certificate and you get a dna test, find out the child is not yours, you don't have to pay for child maintenance. Not sure how it works elsewhere. Edit: You'll no doubt have to go through a court process, but at the end of it unless there are mitigating circumstances, like you having found out years prior and chose to stay.

I assume this is a child she is saying is yours? If so... Massive red flag. 1st thing I'd want is a DNA test. What is she afraid of by putting my name on the certificate? Evidence she lied to you is my guess. She puts your name on the certificate and you find out the child is not yours, you have grounds to walk away without paying a penny. If you continue down this road it is entirely possible you get stuck paying for someone else's kid even after you find out she lied about it.
