What a fucking scumbag. I hope he suffers for what he did to this man and all of the people he’s hurt with his piss poor excuse for a show. I also hope that cheering audience gets what they deserve as well. Disgusting human beings all of them.

Listen. I’m agnostic, so I don’t like absolutist claims either, but there’s something to be said about basing one’s world off of material reality. It’s better to base your beliefs off of something proven. In that sense, God really doesn’t exist, and they should be treated that way.

Whatever conception we have for gods is most likely false, even if they exist. No matter what, we shouldn’t be using them as a means of authority or proving a point, especially since they’re often used to oppress others. Edit: Hell, even the name “God” is our own creation, and probably not what these theoretical divine beings call themselves. Even by name, gods can’t be proven to exist (at least in the manner we describe them). So, why should we base our ideals on something that doesn’t exist as…

Stop talking to this person. She is not your friend, let alone a best friend. Tell her that she does not have your well-being in mind, and that she’s a shit friend/person. Then dump her ass and block all contact with her. Leave her with the pain of knowing that she lost good friend, and a good level of solidarity. In fact, don’t just do that. Tell her friends about what she said. Tell them what a horrible person she is. If they have any ounce of respect for themselves, they’ll do something with …

It is true that white people don’t face systemic discrimination for being white. If they do face discrimination it’s usually due to other factors like class, sexual orientation, etc. that doesn’t mean they can’t face individual levels of racism, though.

If someone asks “do you want to be my lab partner” in high school, is that also an indication of a power dynamic at play? When someone says “This is my friend, Jeremy”, does that mean they own them? Indicating someone’s social standing with you is not a flex of power. If anything, asking someone if they WANT to be your partner is better. It indicates to that you’re taking their feelings into account as opposed to just asking “can I be your partner”. The latter feels like something a child would …

A lot of MRAs hate feminists. As you said, some of them like to generalize the entire movement based on its worst members. I don’t know if the ideology itself is anti-feminist, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some of it was.

I’m... not denying patriarchy’s existence? I’ve actively defended its existence in this very thread. I know this thread sucks, but half the time it feels like your conflating me with the rest of the people here. I’m saying that men deserve a movement for themselves to focus on their own problems, and it’d be good for the feminist movement to acknowledge us once in a while. The same goes the other way around. Men’s activists should acknowledge women’s problems and not deny the existence of patria…

You do know where you are right now, correct? This is r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates. This is the exact place to discuss men’s problems. When did I ever advocate that feminism fight for men’s issues? I never said that. I don’t think feminism is required to address these problems. In fact, I don’t think the feminist movement is entirely equip to tackle these subjects appropriately. And that’s perfectly fine. They do acknowledge men’s problems, and I’m grateful that they do, especially since they shouldn…

I think you seriously underestimate the pain that many men have when it comes to these issues. Men’s emotions aren’t taken seriously by a good number of people. Violence against men is heavily normalized. Sexual assault against men is hardly taken seriously. So much so that female on male rape is put into a completely different category for some arbitrary reason. Jobs like power lining, roofing, and garbage collection aren’t better suited for men because of physical strength. They don’t actually…

I never said anything was “men’s fault” you got that from absolutely nowhere. I also never said men are in power. I said the people in power are mostly men. There’s a big difference. YOU SAID SO YOURSELF. One is saying an entire group of people rule over another, and the other says the people who rule over everyone else, including other men, are men themselves. This is what feminists rail against when they go after the “not all men” argument. You take the least charitable interpretation of someo…

/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates10/05/21 02:25 PM

Of course. Men should take responsibility with women to end patriarchy. I don’t disagree with that. We’ve all got a part to play in ending this. I’ll also say that economic status does play a role in how men a treated, but men do have to deal with a particular level of disposability in my opinion. They go off to die in wars. They take the most dangerous jobs etc etc. You could technically qualify this as misandrist, but the origins of said disposability stem from capitalism and traditionalist va…

Hello again! Nice seeing you here, but I have a few contentions with your post. First of all, Not all women are bellow all men in this hierarchy. That is objectively untrue. In fact, there are ways in which women are valued over men in our society. Of course, whether or not those values benefit women is highly questionable. That’s precisely why I brought up intersectionality. Do not do the same thing he’s doing. Do not function under absolutes. That’s not productive. Second of all, there are way…

You were being so difficult to talk to during the discussion you mentioned. You were constantly throwing out gotchas and false equivalencies. It got to a point where it was absolutely useless to try and talk to you without systematically going through every single solitary point in your post. You know? This brings up an interesting point. It could be said that a lot of feminist rhetoric surrounding this issue downplays androphobia as a phobia. Like, instead of seeking medical treatment for androphobia, a lot of feminists would will the onus on men to compensate for women. If this is true, we could have a serious mental health crisis being perpetuated here. I’m not saying men shouldn’t be mindful of the way they interact with people (everyone should be mindful in that regard), but we …

I agreed with the rest of the post for the most part. That’s why I didn’t acknowledge it. Would you agree that 1 in 6 men are sexually assaulted? If that’s the case, how can you disagree with women having at least comparable rates of sexual assault? Maybe 1 in 4 is inflated, but it could at least be 1 in 5. Edit: I should clarify that I mis worded myself in the previous post. This statistic refers to sexual assault generally and not just rape.

Woah. Okay. I’m gonna have to stop you at the 1 in 4 thing. That number’s pretty real. To say that number’s fake would be the same as saying the 1 in 6 statistic is fake. I ain’t having that. Please, for fuck sake, do not deny other people’s struggles in this regard. I know it’s tempting since people don’t often take men’s safety seriously, but that’s not productive. Unironically, that actually might not be a bad idea. If we got enough people to do it, we could demonstrate to women how many good men there are out there. It’s what it means to me and a lot of other people. You do realize theory is perpetually changing, right? No completely agrees on what patriarchy is (not even in the feminist community), but they, and I, agree that it’s a system in which the powerful people are men.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/04/21 06:56 PM

I never implied that women were exempt from their responsibility in this. Women need to recognize their own part in this nonsense and hold each other accountable just like men. All I said was that the people IN POWER who made these laws were MOSTLY men. That’s not the same as saying “men” created these laws. Again, let me repeat. Saying, “the people in power who did this were men” is not the same thing as saying, “men did this”.

First of all, I’m not a feminist and I’m not a woman. I think I should make that clear. Second of all, I never said that “men” were the ones reinforcing patriarchy. I was referring to men in power, which isn’t all men. The vast majority of people in power throughout American history were men. If it was mostly women in power, I would call it a matriarchy. In my eyes, the society we live in now could’ve just as easily been a matriarchy under the right conditions. To me, calling it the patriarchy i…

The people who decided to create the draft were men. The top ceos in this country are men. The president of the United States is a man. The majority of congress consists of men. None of that means that men’s issues don’t matter or that women have it worse. It means that the system we live under is a patriarchy. Patriarchy, in simple terms, is a government in which men are in charge. That is fundamentally the case about our society. Male disposability was created by greedy capitalists as a means of defending their wealth. Most greedy capitalist at the time of this countries conception were men. That’s not to say women don’t perpetuate male disposability, and I’m not asking anyone to apologize for being a man. I’m simply saying that patriarchy isn’t an inaccurate term to use IMO. I’m speaking in terms of America here. I don’t know what it’s like in other places. I’d say a good solution would be to give parents equal choice to absolve themselves of parental responsibility, and it should probably be their choice alone. Mothers should have the ability to get abortions, and both fathers and mothers should be given equal opportunity to opt out of parenthood after the birth. How we’re gonna facilitate this will be a bit of a pickle, but I think we could make it work somehow. B…

I know this is months old, but I’m interested in this discussion. I’m kinda playing devils advocate when it comes to your post. When it comes to parental responsibility, I feel like mothers have a disadvantage. They’re the ones who have to carry the child and give birth to it. Abortion isn’t an easy process either. On top of that, the father being exempt form parenthood would leave the mother AND the child without financial assistance from him. Now I’m not saying we should force men into parenth…

They didn’t directly accuse the author of misandry, but they did point out that his language was very generalizing among other criticisms. It should also be noted that the author never really focuses on men as a group, but rather on the way they are socialized. Still a pretty shit article, though. Women attempt suicide more often, their sexually harassed in public far more often, sexually assaulted more often, have less influence in government, and have had their bodily autonomy stripped with recent abortion bills. That’s not even mentioning the social ramifications of being a woman. Infantilization and objectification come to mind, but I could go on. What you don’t seem to understand is that things like male disposability are a result of patriarchy. Those ideals were enforced by men in p…

Intersectionality explicitly involves class analysis. It IS intersectional after all. It examines the ways in which certain struggles (intersect) with each other. Also if you can’t see women as being oppressed compared to men, that really shows where you biases lie. That’s not to say men don’t have problems, they really do, but don’t use that as a way of diminishing women’s struggles. Trust me. There are a lot of them.

Feminist rhetoric being used to divide the working class isn’t a result of feminism, though. Most of it is a result of conservative propaganda. It’s a result of right-wing pundits slandering the movement and warping the language to skew people’s perceptions. You look into anti-feminist circles and you’ll see this constantly. Also, do you think discussions of intersectionality serve a legitimate purpose, or are you one of those people who dismisses that?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/03/21 01:55 AM

You are seen as disposable, which is a problem, and a lot of feminists talk about that. Go see the r/MensLib if you want to see those discussions. Another good example is Contrapoints in her video about men. Also, saying that feminism serves capitalist interests is basically assuming the worst of the movement in my book.

I know what that is like. I am a man, and I understand that feminism has its own biases. I also know that feminism is an important component to fixing societies problems. The female component is just as important as the male component, and that’s not even getting into the LGBTQ+ community. I also still disagree that capitalism needs feminism. I believe that feminism, at its core, is (or at least should be) anti-capitalist. It should be against the exploitation of people for the sake of the wealt…

“I'm sorry, it's not the case, it's a matter of opinion.” I’ve literally explained why it isn’t. Feminism has always been, fundamentally, a movement for gender equality. Yes. It prioritizes the female perspective, and it can be biased, but that doesn’t make it anti-equality. Literally every single movement has blind spots when it comes to this. Do you think the civil rights movement never had slip ups? Do you think the BLM movement hasn’t had its fair share of problems? Hell, do you think Karl M…

“You'll have to prove that outside of ideology or ideation. Historically feminism hasn't been anticapitalist at all.” There have been plenty of feminists (even at the early stages) that were anti capitalist, though of course it probably wasn’t most of them. With that said though, can you name a single movement from the early 20th century that was mostly anti-capitalist? Was the civil rights movement a majority socialist movement? Was the early pride movement anti-capitalist? No they weren’t, but…

You didn’t give me reasons. You just gave me claims. What kind of feminist rhetoric promotes capitalism? Like I said. Feminism is pro-equality and anti-exploitation. It isn’t just your word against mine. That’s objectively the case. Capitalism advocates for literally the opposite (pro-exploitation and pro-inequality). How can these two things coincide with each other?

“I'm sorry but feminism is plagued with liberalism and capitalist propaganda. You may not like it but a part of the rhetoric is helpful to the bourgeoise to destroy labour movements, purchasing power, etc.” I meant sentences that were actually substantive. Give me examples of the types of rhetoric your talking about. Edit: fundamentally, feminism is pro-equality and anti-exploitation. Capitalism is fundamentally pro-exploitation and pro-inequality. How can these two things coexist?

“It's still taught in many classes that women "gained freedom" by becoming wage-labourers, doubling the labour pool, for example, and many still fight to get higher positions of power instead of fighting for liberation.” It should be noted that feminists are just susceptible to propaganda as anyone else. This kind of stuff is not in the feminism’s best interest, though. Feminism is supposed to fight for women’s liberation, and the kind of rhetoric you’re describing is in opposition to that goal.…

There are certain toxic traits that are common amongst certain groups of people as a result of socialization. It’s good to have some level of distinction. Men are taught to be overly stoic and to not show emotion. Women are taught to be overly submissive. The problem mostly comes from the fact that the terms themselves can be a bit antagonistic. I can agree that toxic might not be the best term. I talked with another person on Reddit who brought up the term “Warped Masculinity”, which I think mi…

The feminists I’ve talked to don’t think this way. The majority of them believe respect is a two way street as well. Sure. They might let some things slide, and nobody’s perfect. I was speaking mostly in terms of friends, but I do believe it can apply elsewhere. If one of your friends is saying something misogynistic, you should have at least some obligation to call it out. The same goes for women. If a female friend says something misandrist, it should be called out. I think it would also be good to ask some of your friends their opinions on certain things. It’s not necessary, but it be good to have some insight there. Getting called out by the same gender can have a re…

I guess maybe some people want us to be mindful of our behavior? I can understand that to a certain extent, and I can understand them wanting men to hold their own accountable, but beyond that I have no idea. I think a lot of people, especially women, are just upset about their situation, which I can totally understand. For once they want the onus to be on someone else to keep them safe instead of having to limit their freedoms to do so. I’m not more responsible for other male violence compared …

To be fair, this does fit under the idea of toxic masculinity. I think the difference is that the affliction is done by society rather than the individual man who possesses it. I will say part of me feels like it’s too easy to turn toxic masculinity into an insult towards men. That could just be me, though, and there are a lot of words you can do that with for anyone.

You say that is if it’s a justification. Sure. There are ways in which SOME women can benefit from this situation. There are also ways in which SOME men can be at a disadvantage, but that doesn’t apply to everyone, and it doesn’t justify the problem. If anything, you’ve just given more reason to fix it. When I speak on this issue I’m speaking in the interests of all genders. I don’t just care about women. I probably could have made that clearer. As a man it wouldn’t be in my best interest to ign…

I went to the BLS website. The numbers flip for people who are married. That’s probably the point people were making. The pandemic reinforced the stereotype that women’s careers are less important than men’s careers when it comes to marriage.

This argument is so insane I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, you have very little to lose by choosing not to sleep with that person. There is always someone else out there ready to fuck. You have LITERALLY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE to choose from. You can get your “happiness” somewhere else that’s far less damaging. Despite this you still participate in an action that brings terrible consequences for several people involved (including yourself depending on the circumstances). Second of al…

Preface: I’m pretty tired while writing this, so I’ll try my best to make it as coherent as possible. I certainly have a different opinion about this, but I doubt it has anything to do with my gender. To be clear, if you didn’t know the person was in a committed relationship, it’s not your fault in any way. In fact, you were actually a victim to the other persons nonsense. That person took advantage of both you and their partners trust. if you knew about that persons relationship status, though,…

Nature plays a part in it, but not in the way you think. Yes. Men were sent off to war because they were stronger, but physical strength no longer serves as much a purpose seeing how technology has evolved to do that battles for us. Men aren’t naturally inclined to be protectors any more than women are. If that were the case we’d have a lot fewer single mothers. The vast majority of this comes from social norms that no longer serve the purpose they once did. In the past, the daily life of humani…

I agree with this to a certain extent. I think there is a mentality of male disposability in our culture, and I don’t think feminism does enough to address it. I feel like some people see fighting in war some sort of privilege. It’s the whole “being proud to fight for your country” sort of thing. I don’t think those people really understand the actual trauma and pain that comes with fighting in a war. A lot of this also has to do with military propaganda and the way it brainwashes people to give…

I don’t think men are taken as seriously when it comes to sexual assault. Recent numbers show that men are almost as likely as women to be sexually assaulted. I’ve also heard that women are actually the main perpetrators of said assaults, but I could be wrong about that.

Alright. This is the last thing I’m gonna say and that’ll be it. Religion is far more damaging to women than men. It treats women like second class citizens and indoctrinates them to be subservient to men. Don’t even try to compare the two situations. The misogyny in the MRM is a very particular problem to that movement. The men’s liberation movement doesn’t have that problem. They frequently talk about men’s issues without diminishing women’s issues (which is something the MRM tends to do). Fem…

“Men have a shorter end of the stick today.” That’s debatable. That had nothing to do with what I said. “Men are the minority of voters today. Moreover, men have to earn their vote by signing up for conscription. Women get for free.” I’m not gonna deny this point, but I’d rather have the vote than not. Also why are you comparing today with the past? My point was that women had it worse in the past. Thy didn’t have the vote AT ALL. “Because jobs were manual labour and dangerous back then. I gave …

I’d still say women had the short end of the stick in the early days. They were given no means of power or influence, they weren’t allowed to vote, they were relegated to the home, they had a dangerous lack of representation in medical studies, they had far fewer recourses when it came to financial independence, and they had very little bodily autonomy (there was a time when husbands were legally allowed to rape their wives). Heck if you wanna go back further, they were essentially treated like …

We don’t have a gynocentric society. To say that is to ignore the number of ways in which men have been given priority for centuries. I’m not saying there aren’t biases against men, but I think the bias is split pretty equally along gender lines. It just affects them in different ways. The majority of feminists aren’t pushing anti-men sentiment either. That myth is mostly pushed by reactionaries to damage the movements reputation. I’m not gonna say I love the feminist movement, but I’ll defend i…

I’m not gonna refute everything here, but I will say this. Just because men creates the law doesn’t mean it isn’t a disadvantage. A patriarchy can disadvantage both men and women. To brush these complaints off by saying “a MAN created those rules though” is to insinuate that men aren’t allowed to complain about these things because it’s “their fault” which is ridiculous. Men aren’t a collective and not all of us have influence in culture and legal decision making. PS: If you think being shipped …

I’m assuming this has to do with the whole toxic masculinity thing, so I’m gonna go off of that. Toxic masculinity is not the same as men being toxic. How many times does that have to be said? Look. I don’t like the term either, but to say that the point of the term is to label men as toxic is a false statement. I feel like this is just a problem with the legal system generally. Yes. False accusations happen and they suck, but I’m not sure they’re the biggest problem here. Honestly I think men getting assaulted is a much bigger problem than men getting falsely accused. From what I’ve seen men are almost as likely to be assaulted as women and yet they’re taken far less seriously. Don’t get me wrong though. We should still be doing what we can to change our culture to be more innocent until proven guilty.

It makes sense they would bring it up. Women haven’t always had the best representation here. Sure. It’s kinda weird to focus so much on that attribute. It seems like doing so detracts from the goal of normalizing women of color in politics, but I think it’s okay to celebrate this.
