This resonates hard. It’s comforting to know you have been through something similar.

Great to hear you have a plan for your mortgage. I’m looking forward to getting my own place post divorce, once we sell where we are now. Ours was a nearly 10 year marriage. Sadly it seems to be so common, as time goes on though I do feel more at peace with it, probably knowing that there is so many others, including yourself that are going through these things and that I’m not alone. Would defo welcome further chat yep. Will dm you 👍🏻

Ouch indeed 😳 The 50/50 children split and then getting hit for that per month on maintenance is particularly ouchie - I’m hoping we will agree a 50/50 on childcare but so far I think we just haven’t gone that far down the road to even talk about maintenance. At the moment I’ve just acknowledged to her that I’ll probably have to give her more than half the house equity. As that seems the norm in the UK. Pensions I’m kinda not too worried about, I see that as something I can’t access for quite a …

Hey - is your divorce now finalised? Reading back through some of your other posts your position sounded very similar to mine. We are a way off having things finalised yet, divorce due in Sept time but then consent order I think is another 8 weeks or so after that. What sort of financial split did you get as I’m reading all sorts of horror stories of 70/30 in favour of the woman. We are amicable which I guess helps but I know even if you are amicable then a judge can still review your consent or…

No not at all, just because you are 1.5 years doesn’t mean it won’t hurt - it isn’t what you signed up for when you got married is it, I’m sure you saw a long future with this person. But all I was meaning is say fast forward 10 years, if you got divorced now, this would all be a distant memory, so you have every opportunity to really start again, if that’s what you decide to do. Looking back on my own marriage there were definite red flags that I ignored, and I was hoping it would get better. I…

Sounds out of order that she told the kids presumably without you being there (which is how I read it). And I’m in a similar situation in that I thought my marriage should carry on because it would be the best thing for the kids, but actually an unhappy marriage is not good for kids to be around - even if it’s not a shouty marriage, a loveless marriage is apparent even to young kids. It sounds like you have got your head straight that you don’t want to be with her so really it’s decision made, t…

If you are having any doubts now and only 1.5 years in - I’d be biting the bullet and moving on. You are so young - you have so much time ahead of you to easily start again. Her changing just because you filed for divorce doesn’t mean these red flags come back, they might stop for a bit, but they’ll come back. So my advice would be to be think yourself lucky you aren’t more than 1.5 years in and do what’s needed to get out. Good luck.

I’d agree, but it’s common decency and respect to wait until the proceedings are finalised

Am in a similar boat except 2 kids not 3 and together 12 years so kinda similar. Let me tell you from experience that when these things happen or are more lead from one side and they assure you “there’s no one else” then unfortunately the chances are, there is. I don’t live in the US but most here I believe are US based so don’t know for sure how guaranteed custody for you is but try and remain positive. I’m assuming for the past decade or so (?) that you’ve been living 100% of the time with you…

For her to suggest you have a FWB seems a bit weird to me? Imagine if it was the other way round and she wanted more sex than you, can you imagine giving the green light to her being with other men? On the initiating front there is only so many times a man can “initiate” and get knocked back. It’s horrendous for your mental health. I found that once I got to this point I knew I had to do something about it but I carried on like this for several years (not a good idea). Even though I’m still havi…

I can remember saying to my STBXW years ago that she was never happy and always wanted the next “thing”. A newer / different house or car, a “better” holiday and I realised that a lot of the time moments were turned into pictures that were only taken for the sole purpose of uploading them to Facebook for probably a handful of people to “like” them! Everything became about what everyone else was doing. We aren’t quite divorced yet and are still living together with our 2 kids but I’m just looking…

Thanks for sharing this. I’m right at the start of my own process but I’ve also been in an affection-less relationship for far too long. Basically I was scared about doing anything about it because of my two children. However seeing you say it’s better for you and your kids gives me hope tbh. I’m still cohabiting with STBXW at the moment but know I’m gonna have a lot more free time when things are finalised. What did you do with any extra free time you had? Exercising, seeing friends, being me, …

Did you have a consent order and how did that work out for you, did you agree with your ex on the terms of it?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
