I added my experience to my last reply. Anyway what helped me was a book of law called "The Law Handbook (10th ed.) - your practical guide to the law in New South Wales." You might be able to find something similar for you in your state/country. It just helped me understand what the court process will be. Good luck.

If you can go to mediation do it and what ever is agreed upon get that agreement written down then certified by a family court judge. Should cut down on legal fees as you are not really 'going' to court you both agreed to an agreement and the judge just signs off to make it so that any breach of the agreement has legal consequences. I'm sorry to hear that. Yes sadly I do agree some people have no hope of improvement. And maybe I'm just too optimistic but I'd like to see a day where there are no junkies or hardcore addicts to begin with. I don't pretend to have all the answers but jailing everyone of them is not the answer, as the war on drugs has proven. There needs to be a better way.
