Actually men had to be convinced first that women should be given the right to vote. There was a significant portion of men who thought women shouldn't' be given the right to vote.

There are fields where women compete with men and have been successful. One is fictional literature or writing fiction. For instance women have written good fictional books such as Frankenstein, Harry Potter and Hunger Games.
