Because you're an idiot. Washington is a no fault state. It doesn't matter he cheated. Secondly, the friends with pedophiles thing, if true, what the hell does that have to do with the distribution of assets in a divorce? It's not a crime or anything. Further, he has $109 billion according to Forbes, not "hundreds." Again, none of this answers the question as to whether being married for 27 years, having 3 kids to which she would have had a massive amount of help with, funded by Bill, is worth $…

You think it's equitable Bill Gates' ex got something like $60 billion USD in their divorce? Seriously? For doing what, raising 3 kids (we both know they would have had a lot of maids, cooks etc) and simply being married to the richest dude in the world? Ok, on premarital assets such as inheritances, you're simply unlucky if your parents drop dead after you get married, hey?

For whatever reason, I'm able to see all mine and mostly yours. Mine throughout the thread have performed far better than yours. Upvoted could also means +2. Admit you're a feminist who thinks it's okay to treat men like walking wallets.

What principle? If your spouse has $1m in their personal bank account, does that give you the right to walk into the bank with a copy of your marriage certificate and withdraw it?

I've said this before: doing that wouldn't force her to work.

They're a value add, but not $20m+ in my client's scenario.

No. All assets go into the marital property pool, unless there's a prenup.

If it was that easy, everyone would do it and it would undermine what is effectively a private contract. You require independent evidence which the court accepts.

It's a better country than the US, that's for sure.

You're a moron. If that's all it took, EVERY prenup would be thrown out.

How much US dollars does someone have to have for you to consider them wealthy?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 03:00 PM
7

I'm Australian. The government considers you wealthy if you have more than $1M AUD outside your primary house. Is that wealthy for you?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 02:58 PM
6

So how is someone wealthy in US dollar terms?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 02:55 PM
2

Doesn't mean the Court accepts it. You need independent evidence, such as "the wedding was a week away and he said if I didn't sign it he would call it off."
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 02:55 PM

In dollar terms?
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 02:53 PM

They have to prove that, otherwise everyone would claim that?

Yeah, she was a career woman and he admired that about her. He never agreed for her to be a stay at home mother. She refused to go back to work.

No one marries thinking they will divorce. She was a stay at home mother to three children and cooked,.cleaned etc.

He found her in bed with 3 blokes.

You don't need to tell a lawyer that who works in that space.

It's speculative as to whether there was upward mobility.

You can't be serious? A 15 year old high school drop out can push out and raise a baby. You're more a hero for working, contributing to society and paying taxes than having unprotected sex and dealing with the consequence of that.

Depending on who you ask, women still do all those roles even after working a full time job. You're not a hero for being unemployed. Australia covers a massive portion of childcare if both parents are working. $25 a day out of pocket is nothing.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 12:16 PM

How are they benefitting the working parent? There's plenty of working couples with children.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 12:05 PM

Agreed. You should never be able to profit from a failed marriage.

I don't know why you're being needlessly argumentative. She couldn't set herself up with say $3 m? That's enough to buy a house outright and love very comfortably off the dividends by investing the remaining funds. I can tell you're a woman with this sense of entitlement. Well, she died a fortnight before the hearing was listed. That's what special counsel advised would be the likely outcome. It was listed for hearing as she wanted 60%. He won't be paying up anything. 🤷‍♂️

The court takes into account many factors. A 20 year marriage and kids will almost always make it 50/50. Had they have broken up 5 years into the marriage with no kids, she'd be lucky to get 5%. Well, she admitted to it in her affidavit. I never said zero, did I? If you value a stay at home parent at say $100k a year, that's $2m, not $20-$25m. We pay childcare workers here $50k, that's probably a better benchmark.

I'm an Australian lawyer, I think I know what Australian family law is. Dumping? She didn't want to work. 20 years of marriage, 3 kids. It's the erosion principle.
/r/PurplePillDebate27/08/25 11:31 AM
21

No they're not? It'd have been cheaper for the bloke in my example to have hired professionals. And atleast in Australia, marriage doesn't combine assets. It's also not automatically 50/50.

Of course. I'm a lawyer in Australia and some of the results I've seen are absurd. Marry a woman, inherit the $50 million family business, wife refuses to work and stays home with the kids, divorce 20 years later and now you're looking at paying $20-25 million in a settlement. Seriously? A stay at home spouse is worth that much? It's a joke, frankly. Prenup or no marriage. Simple.

Your kid's dad could have, at any time, decided not to help the way he did.
