I’m close to 2 years and still think about her. I miss her and will never stop loving her. But we weren’t working and I have to remind myself that choosing to walk away was the right decision for both of us, no matter how hard. Accepting she’ll always have space in your heart is part of the process. In time you’ll think of her less often, but don’t focus on the end goal or trying to forget her. Just take everything day by day and don’t run from what you’re feeling. You’ll only delay your healing…

Divorce is social suicide. As others have said, you are not alone. But like most of us who went through it, it’s something that’s not really talked about and very hard to understand as it’s happening. Well hell, in general most people don’t discuss any of the emotional and mental toll you’re forced to carry while going through a divorce and beginning a new chapter post divorce. I went through the same thing with my friends. As if choosing to part ways with my best friend, lover, and wife of near…

Same. And out of nowhere it’ll hit. While it was for sure a roller coaster of emotions early on, around a year I felt I was doing pretty well with acceptance and moving forward, even have a new girl I’m totally in love with. But man, there are some days where I can’t get my ex wife out of my head and it hurts like hell still. I miss her so much. She was my best friend. We would have hit our 10 yr anniversary from our first meeting last month.

My divorce was amicable and I had thought I’d probably never remarry again. It’s been less than a year and I’ve already moved in with my new GF who I’m madly in love with. We discuss marriage, kids, and our future. I see no point in comparing what I went through with someone else in my past. Everyone’s divorce is different so there’s no one answer to this and to be honest, you have to understand that feelings change just as we all evolve. Divorce doesn’t have to be the end of your romantic endea…

I do not mean for this to be rude, but to be blunt - this chapter is over. Stop focusing on her. Focus on yourself.

I’m sorry you’re hurt, it’s completely understandable and not something that’s easy to hear or deal with. However, it is not cheating. At all. Just like you were together, a couple, and romantically involved before you got a piece of paper making it legal - waiting for another piece of paper to make it “official” that you’re not together is just admin work.

I just posted what I’m currently going through along these lines. How did you know it was time to call it quits? When I didn’t have any energy left to fight through the same fights. I wasn’t satisfied and hadn’t been for a long time and it slowly just ate at me. Everyone has their tipping point and for me there was no going back considering how rocky it constantly felt. How did you manage to not regret it? I’m working on this right now and it comes in waves. I never not think about her, but I’ve…

The main thing I’d disagree with here is the passed the turning point. If he wants to get back together and work on it, he will. But for me, it became clear that it is possible to love someone while also accepting being together is not good for either of you no matter how hard it may be.

That’s great input. I like the idea of remembering the facts of why it wasn’t working. I need to remember that because I’m feeling something different now I should not forget what I felt when our marriage just wasn’t working.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through rough times yourself. Don’t be so hard on yourself would be what I hope you can work on first. You can’t dwell on what you did or didn’t do in the past, only learn from it. While I always tried to, I know I absolutely still should have worked on myself more. I had bad habits and selfish priorities, completely neglecting the cores of a healthy marriage. I believe this was a result of the context of my relationship which I was absolutely a willing party contr…

I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine going through this with kids involved as well. It sounds like you’re very introspective, like myself as well, and already realized what you could have done different. The pictures and memories feel like a dagger to the heart don’t they? And almost a bit of shock, seeing myself with an ex and your brain and heart remembering what you felt during that picture. Dave Grohl sang it best, “If everything could ever feel this real forever. If anything could ever be this goo…

There was infidelity yes, but I was also no saint and had some hiccups. Our physical life and intimacy was lacking to non existent. I think I justified mine in my head because I was trying to have intimacy and she wasn’t. So when I found out about her infidelity I just couldn’t handle it when I was trying so hard to make it work even though she wasn’t and then stepped out on me and lied for years.

While this was the first time I officially said “this is over” this was not the first time we tried working through the same issues that had been consistent throughout our relationship and then the additional lies that came about felt impossible to cope with at the time. We had tried counseling in the past, I had taken time away and stayed with friends, etc but throughout our marriage I would be up at night staring at the ceiling asking myself “is this really it for the rest of my life?” It’s in…
