This was pretty much my 32 year marriage. Writing that to her is brave and honest. I’m not sure I ever would have done that without something to push me over the edge. My wife ended up dealing with it by lying to me and cheating on me, which in a way was a gift because it made it easier for me to understand that it needed to end, and I didn’t have to go through counseling to try and work on all of that dynamic that had been built up for 32 years. I’m not sure if we could have ever worked our way…

This hits home. My ex is a Kindergarten teacher, so lives for all the cutesy holiday decorating. I didn’t mind having it around, and it was fun for our kids when they were little. But the PROCESS of it all was a nightmare. And the holidays, in general, became my least favorite time of year because of all the stress over everything… decorating, gifts, cleaning the house for parties…. Just non stop stress and anger over stupid things that don’t matter. Last year was the worst, because I knew the m…

As you can tell from all the comments so far, we have all been there, man. Completely normal. I'm a 58M, and my ex cheated and lied, so I pulled the plug on our 32 year marriage. I didn't regret doing it, because I knew it was the right thing in the long run, but it was a moment to mourn what had been a huge part of my life. The key is don't wall…

BTW, I’m not downplaying that your depression is real and can make it tough to motivate for anything. Part of the beauty of this book is setting things up in way that the habits you want to do become automatic, like brushing your teeth and going to the bathroom, and not subject to your whims of whether or not you feel like doing it.

Read the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. Super simple approach to making very small changes in your daily routines that lead to amazing results in the long run. I used this to change my morning routine. Going to bed earlier, getting more sleep getting up early, doing pushups, core, a little lifting. I’m down 15 pounds, building muscles and feeling stronger every day. The book isn’t just for fitness habits; can help you stop bad habits, and just start doing the things that make you feel better…

I’ve been there, man. The worst part is feeling alone in it. Like you can’t tell anyone in your life what is actually going on. Find someone you can talk to about it. An old friend, someone that has no crossover with her or your daughter or her family or whatever. Online counselor, whatever it takes. It feels better to talk through it and get a reality check from someone you trust. And, if you do counseling, do it with the idea of figuring out the best way to handle your split up. 5 years is not…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
