(Not actually watching the video, but) I feel kind of bad for leaving a gossipy comment about ShoeOnHead here a while ago. I basically implied that she didn’t sound left-wing, which was pretty critical of me—especially as a rando of one of the biggest groups she’s been advocating toward. It was a pretty mean comment about her character. To clarify, my current view is that the idea of “left-wing” is going through a values shift, making it less and less distinguishable from the right. Maybe it’s j…

She’s been going this way for a long time at this point, so it’s very much expected. And I can understand a bit why she does this. It’s absolutely exhausting to please everybody, and as a popular public figure she receives way more feedback than she can reasonably take on (or even wants to take to), and sometimes there’s just no way to get her thoughts down in any nicer or more comedic way, going the feminist social justice route allows her to side step mainstream appeal and go for a topical con…

Yeah, in many subreddits you need to be extra careful about what you say, particularly about men’s social issues; reading the room is a must. But I’ll still like to allude to the idea anyway even if it is in a sub that won’t take kindly to it. I like to get feedback from disagreeing opinions.

I know you’ve put a lot of effort into this post but the term “schizosexism” sounds reductive. Based on the definitions you’ve given for “schizosexism”, your very post would classify as schizosexism. It’s a loaded word, and quite obviously sounds hateful. You might as well be reinventing toxic masculinity.

Yeah… it’s kind of like that. But I’ve noticed it’s kind of gotten better this year in academia. I withdrew from university in 2022 because of a lot for the sentiments you felt. Quite a few subjects had that similar women first mentality that felt quite alienating. Turning up to talks, lectures, social events between classes and listening to all of the speakers ingratiating themselves to women. And since then I noticed that familiar sensation recently when watching the women’s tennis final this …

I'm not sure about this one. It's worded a bit weirdly. I think using colloquialisms is okay depending on the context and mood you want to convey, but in this case, it reads a bit like you're "rubbing it in," which isn't very persuasive. I also think the main point you are suggesting — the clarification of "do you mean gender studies" or "do you mean women-specific issues" when asking someone about feminism — is also weird. From my first impression, those questions kind of carry the tone of "so-…

I probably can’t give very good advice about this because I haven’t dated. But looking at the comments I think I’d be wary of the advice that is given here. I do think breaking up, hopefully amicably, would be the right move. But I think telling her why you want to break up with her might be the murky question.

Wow, I’m quite impressed you managed to hold your stance with integrity and compassion for just about all your replies. And even more impressively without getting banned! You probably didn’t need to go through all that work but I definitely appreciate that you did. I did start to get some literary fatigue though reading “a heteronormative complex with a significant queer component” over and over in all of your comments. You did explain it very well. It’s just that when I read through multiple of…

I hope you’re okay with me saying this, but the idea of being left-wing is not black and white. How I define left-wing is that it is “valuing and advocating fairness and equal opportunities for people” but everyone has slightly different understandings of the word. Your example of a woman’s right to choose is another grey area. This second part I wrote ages ago but I think it’s still relevant to this discussion. I mostly agree that it’s the pregnant person’s choice whether they get an abortion o…

Using leftist and MRA is okay in this sub, but I don’t like the idea that they’re both one step away from their precise meanings. The equivocalness of topical political words makes their definitions loaded and pretty easily misconstrued as offensive to people who don’t immediately get the association you aimed to convey. A plain English way of describing leftist would probably be; “valuing and advocating equal opportunities for people”, and MRA probably “someone who worries about and advocates f…

Thank you for the clarification, but seriously, do away with those vague labels; they add nothing to the quality of your discussion. Leftist, MRA, TERFs, TRAs, RF, misogynist, misandrist… Ideally don’t use these terms; they mean nothing. Be more tentative with your approach e.g. “I feel…”, “I think…”, “I’m unsure about…” “Equivocal” is what you should call these words. They have so many meanings they mean nothing. Just say it in plain English.

I apologise if this is not the response you wanted to hear — but your argument needs to be worded better. What do you mean when you say (wo)men? Is this an intersex or trans term? What do you mean when you say us? It might help people understand your argument a bit better if you make it less ambiguous. It’s perfectly fine to say “as a ___” as those conversations are to be expected in these gender related spaces. You need to be more specific about your terms; what is “woke gatekeeper response”? W…

I think the way you’ve worded it sounds very off. I think what you meant to say was, “the UN should consider and record drafted people as part of civilian causality statistics.”
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/01/24 07:54 PM
1

I apologise if this is an unpopular view but I’m not really convinced by this study. It seems to work within the framework of behavioural psychology which I’ve seen in the past be used to study men with this sort of critique and get published in feminist papers for their findings. The political bias seems a bit too obvious and makes me kind of skeptical if feminism is being compared to Men’s Rights fairly.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates19/12/23 08:31 PM
12

This post comes across as trying to pass a very biased opinion as fact. You need to be conscious that not everyone has your worldview and be far more tentative when expressing it. E.g. “ I think”, “I feel like”, “I’m unsure about” and avoid jumping to conclusions (particularly this). That’s the very mindset that gives feminism and men’s rights a bad rap.

I’m not sure if this Venn diagram would convince someone from the opposite side or non-aligned side, but I think it is a good start. I think what would make the graph better is if you laid out the proportions of both sides to look equal I.e. whenever you include an issue or topic from one side you add the equivalent to the other side. I.e. If you mention misandry you must balance it out to mention misogyny. And be careful about letting your bias distort the shape of the graph. Men’s and women’s …

The way you’ve written these arguments sounds very rude and confrontational. This is not going to be persuasive in the least (particularly with people who disagree with you). You need to hedge your arguments and approach them in a more tentative and empathetic manner but still give people questions so that can think and reflect on their own morality.

I’m not sure if a slogan is necessary. Any words you use can and will be misconstrued to judge and/or criticise you and your believes in bad faith (most likely in the form of gossip, not the helpful conversational way). What I think might be more effective is a print out of a war memorial picture. This could allow you to subtly expose the erasure of men in a way that is sensitive and would make most people an asshole to bully you about it (even the media). There was one a few days ago that had a…

I don’t know much about the way you’re reaching out to metal health professionals, but the ones I reach out to have an online survey that you do the day before every session. With sliders for generalised things like; family, friends, work, etc, on a slider of 0-10 (10 being the best) (there’s only about ten questions). I think this system might be useful in your case since it would help them have an idea on which topics are the most sensitive. But then again it could also be because of these sur…

I think the name your channel would work best as an obscure reference rather than stating your explicit values and stance. That way you don’t shoehorn yourself into only getting clicks because your name (you want to get clicks for your debates, reasoning and arguments and actually get people to think about them not just agree with the labels of things). I think kidology and The Glass Blindspot have chosen pretty good names because of this.

If you include one of the interpretations that toxic masculinity includes “propagating the hate of women” you could show they’re a hypocrite by propagating the hate of men because talking about women’s issues minimises men’s issues, etc. But for many people they are very very set into their definition of things, so it won’t lead to a fruitful debate too often. You can use the word “misogyny” in a similar manner as well. Everyone hates being called a misogynist. Calling out misogyny undermines mi…

I honestly kind of enjoyed the movie. The world building was great and immersive, the acting and action was phenomenal and most of the jokes were well-timed and funny. I interpreted the ken uprising as a parallel to the women’s rights movement in some specific scenes (not all of them obviously) like in fighting for the right to vote, right to own housing, “equal” rights and whatnot. I hoped that would lead to the mutual understanding of each other’s problems, you know the typical “draw of the ba…

I’d really like someone to write a code that copies down the definition of feminism and other topical words once a day (the definition changes a lot). Asking people which is more fair; a woman being sentenced as if she were a man or a man be sentenced as if he were a woman. Where should the burden of proof be in a rape trial?

No 2 and 3. I tend to spend a lot of my free time on Reddit. So perhaps half an hour a day (just on this sub alone)? I don’t really. It just came up and I thought, why not? Yeah, it would be nice if us guys could get more options into biological planned parenthood. I find surrogacy a bit too close to the line of violating women’s health and bodily autonomy. Even if it’s legally accepted altruistically or monetarily by the mother carrying the surrogate the cost doesn’t seem to outweigh the benefits. So yeah, I definitely support artificial womb technology and would love to be a gay father one day.

Yeah I love this sub as well! And I really want to help other men in the community. I’ve had this thought in the back of my mind for the last few weeks but I don’t know how to put it into reality. Idk. A current source of body dysphoria(or is it body dysmorphia?) for me is my lumpy forehead created by years of picking at acne scares. I tend to try cover that spot with a beanie, bandana or just wear a hat if I’m out and about. But I’ve got long hair so a bandana might seem weird if you have shorter hair. Unfortunately that’s the only spot I’ve found ways to glow up. For me facial hair seems to be a bit out of the question. I’d be interested if you know of anything else that helps.

This is probably a useless idea, but those feathers reminded me about the poppies that we wear on Remembrance Day. And that made me think. The appropriate dress code for awareness of International Men’s Day is blue. But nothing about that colour stands out for us in a social setting. So what if instead of blue we wore a white feather on International Men’s Day? Be it a broach, quill or any other item of clothing, outwardly showing a white feather as a support for men.

I think it’s okay to seek certain attributes in a prospective partner, just so long as our expectations of those attributes are humanly achievable and lenient to changes in our natural biology. I think points 5, 6 & 7 are cultural assumptions that work against men not for men. So yeah, I don’t like it. But I think we’re going to have to live with it.

I feel like it’s a matter of perspective. Many artists we’ve grown up listening to are reaching a point in their lives where they no longer need nor want to promote their own sex appeal. This especially an issue for women in the music industry who eventually want to get married and/or have children. And seemingly the easiest way to do that is remove as much of that prior earned appeal as possible without scorching their name (Because there’s a lot of deranged fans(m/w) out there). But yeah a lot…

This would probably put the ethics of dating into question. Because a lot of us still perceive that the goal of dating is to find intimacy, which is a form of codependence…so yea… idk.
