However, only speaking specifically about this post I have to raise the issue of politically correctness: Although ‘manipulation’ and ‘deceit’ are more aggressive terms, it can be argued that they are suitable enough to be exchangeable with “exaggerating” & “putting on an act” in this context. I mostly agree with you on your 3rd point, however this “patheticness” you describe is an issue of morality. Also we have to admit that deceit is an aspect of seduction. For example, when you put on an act or exaggerate your own characteristics you aren’t being your true self (deceitful) - this is a common guy-method for seduction.
