When I say a man is attractive, it can mean one of four things: He is attractive to me, personally, beyond a shadow of a doubt, and is probably attractive to everyone else, too. (eg. Henry Cavill) He is attractive to me, personally, but I think his attractiveness is subjective. He is not attractive to me but is objectively (IMO) good-looking. (eg. Channing Tatum) IMO, he is esthetically pleasing, just not drop dead gorgeous, and most people would say he's attractive. I don't feel sexually attrac…

I'm ignoring the condescension for a minute. Because I try to understand people who hold views in opposition to mine, and since it isn't psychologically healthy to invite those people into my life on a long-term basis, I'd rather engage when and for how long I choose in a forum where people have to follow some basic rules. You can't fix a problem or bridge a gap without understanding why it's there, and you'll never learn to speak in someone else's language if you don't expose yourself to it.

Reddit /= place with no consequences. Reddit /= place where I have no obligation to be a decent person. Reddit /= place where no one posts anything for a real reason, just for shits and giggles.

Current fiancé and the prior boyfriend started as hookups. Then we found out we liked spending time together out of bed, too. 🤣

Short answer: anxiety, cultural propaganda, and pressure Long answer: (Smart) women want the commitment on paper because they've seen what happens to eternal couples with misaligned life goals. (Dumb) women pressure men who, by the men's own standards, should have already proposed because they don't understand that it's so much worse to marry someone who doesn't want you than to be single. Just got engaged recently. The timing was a surprise, but the sentiment wasn't. If I had known how much wor…

This is a people problem, not a gender problem. I have never befriended or spent more time than I absolutely had to with any woman like this, just like I have never bothered to engage with men whose only interests are sports, keggers, and cars. Shockingly, despite this aversion to shallow people, I have never had problems spending time with either men or women or being friends with them.

This is a societal problem. It's a huge financial and physical toll on people, and our species isn't struggling to survive. We don't need five kids to run the farm; we need two or more full-time incomes per household to live comfortably and not have hardship. It is a privilege to be able to raise a child in a healthy way and provide for them. Many governments have not incentivized people to have children because they don't value household labor and assume the burden will just fall on women. They…

This opinion is either naive, deluded, or arguing in bad faith. I have come across dozens of sexual predators in everyday life and at least 3 rapists who were outed after being friends with friends. One of the rapists was a Harvard mathematics prodigy. One was a 13-year-old boy. Another was a longtime friend of one of my good friends who cut him out of his life after finding out what he did. Only the last guy showed red flags to me. I've met a few people who I highly suspect were sociopaths or m…

This is not a gendered thing. There are people who give more than they take, people who take more than they give, and those who try to give and take fairly. Don't be friends with people who take too much, and encourage those who give too much to ask for help and lean on you when they need it, and then actually be there for them. Sometimes, people fall into ruts and don't realize it. If you point this out to them, decent people will understand that you want to be there for them, but it's frustrat…

The draft. I don't want people dying unwillingly for a nation state, but if it's going to be that way, at least make it equal like other countries do.

You're not getting why you get pushback about the difference between "the man should pay" and "the person who asks and chooses the place should pay" because the first date typically involves the man asking the woman out. If I can clarify, while this is typically what happens, if a woman asks a guy out for the first date, SHE SHOULD PAY. Women have disputes about friends inviting other friends to expensive places and expecting the invitee to pay all of the time. Ideally, two people dating should …

I think compared to a woman in a comparable situation, yes, it is harder for men to find casual sex. Men are more likely to seek out casual sex than women are. [If you're oversimplifying the prerequisites to have safe casual sex that doesn't cause unnecessary stress on one's job or education, you're also underestimating how socially awkward many women can be, especially as younger adults.] Not "getting laid" - putting aside phrasing that implies the other person's experience is immaterial to the…

Being legally of age doesn't absolve you if you mentally or emotionally exploit someone much younger than you. You didn't answer my questions at all, so I'm assuming you're acting in bad faith and am blocking you.

The only one who's having fantasies about 18-year-olds is you. If you're under 22, that's one less red flag among several that people have pointed out.

Bf's mother does everything in her house because that's how she was raised. He never learned, and I didn't figure that out until I was already invested. I couldn't tell if the state of his apartment was due to his roommate, former depression, or a lack of hot enough water to clean properly. He was also grad school age when we started dating, so my standards as someone with a full decade on him were always going to be different. But he's learning. He now knows how to budget, properly clean a bath…

I'm in a relationship. I joined this sub to give anecdotal evidence / my experiences and sometimes provide hard data that is the exact opposite of what TRP espouses. I didn't date when I was working on issues I thought would make me a crappy partner. I didn't whine about it on the internet or blame men or society. I asked questions related to my problems and worked to make myself a better person. Not sure why I expected most other people to react in similar ways. That's on me. But the culture sh…

You aren't friends. You're acting friendly on the hope that she will become attracted or admit her attraction. Are you going to demean her and end the "friendship" if she turns you down? Do you understand why this is different from being friends for a long time and then slowly becoming attracted to someone? Why mention her age? Is it because you're a lot older? Talking to someone barely legal isn't the flex you think it is.

Idk if I would be considered radfem, as I'm more supportive of decentering gender altogether in the future. However, I think feminism's original goal was to work towards equality BY "freeing women from oppression based on their female sex/observations of their female sex." It would help men, but that's a byproduct, so we're in agreement there. It would more directly help men than say, protesting a foreign war would directly help people at home, but it's not the primary goal, and it shouldn't hav…

Not the person you were talking to, and thank you for bringing some data with you. I've only looked at the graphic, so the article may dig deeper and prove massive cynicism in US women's answers. However, from the chart, I see this as bad wording in the study, where you may be right, but I can't tell from the way the question was asked. "I expect a man to be able to provide financially for a family" and "I expect the man to be the primary breadwinner" are two different things. Based on the wordi…

Exactly. I try not to offend anyone on the first date, so I'll offer to pay my share and will do so unless the date insists on paying. I bring enough money to pay for myself, and I never agree to go somewhere expensive if I can't afford my share. My current bf and I either split meals or pay every other time. If I made more money than he did (we're both on blue-collar salaries at this point), I would pay more often.

That's your problem, right there. Of course, people expect to get something out of a relationship. But many, many people don't go through life only doing things to benefit themselves. I don't help my neighbor cut down his damaged tree because I ever expect him to do the same for me. I don't return someone's wallet to the front of the store expecting a reward. I don't take care of my boyfriend when he's sick expecting a 1:1 reciprocal level of care to be paid back; I do it because I love him and …

I never wanted a "provider" or a transactional relationship. Neither did any of my friends or roommates in college. Many, many women want careers and to not be dependent on a man. Shocking, I know. If you pursue trad women, that assumption makes more sense.

The problem is right there in the framing of your post, along with the inconsistent, random capitalizations. "What benefits does he get from helping women?" "Why help a group who've made it clear they don't care about you?" "Why help women at all then if you clearly have no reason or stake in women's lives?" Everything is transactional to you. For you, there has to be a clear benefit to you for any effort you make beyond the default. While many people think this way, I think a lot of the frustra…

(Yes, and!) I think you do get something from it, though. No one should be judged or constricted by expressions of their gender or sex. It is objectively better to improve your mental health and to not stigmatize asking for help. It is objectively better -- for you and every other man -- not to be held to impossible stereotypes of the 19th century or 1950s in order to be considered successful as a person. I, as a woman, don't want that for anyone. I want everyone to know how to cultivate social …

It sounds like the people making shitty comments are the problem, i.e. society or your social circle. That's when it's time to tell them to have a big mug of shut the fuck up tea. 😊 I make an unstable income. If I make it big, I'm going to outearn my partner by an amount he won't be able to make up. We have to be okay with each doing the careers we enjoy and the jobs we need to survive.
