What if I am a gent and also a therapist how does that fit into this equation?

The problem is that having social skills is the ultimate proof of being a trustworthy person. In the not so near future, as people become more educated, how ND (neurodivergent) people are viewed and discriminated against is going to become seen how homophobia and racism are seen now. ND people do not lack social skills, they simply social differently and are discriminated against because of it. Autistic and gifted people actually tend to be much more trustworthy, honest and logical than NTs. In …

Yay, a wholesome Reddit interaction on a divisive sub. Glad my thoughts helped a bit. Yeah male culture is governed a lot by hidden insecurity and posturing, grasping or trying to build the appearance or actuality of power and strength because men learn that this is what will give them better dating prospects, respect and opportunities professionally and romantically. Men also easily become bitter and confused in this modern era (this is where mgtow and red pill come from I believe) because woma…

If you are genuinely curious, which I am assuming you are, I’ve got a couple thoughts. Besides the usual ideas of evolutionary biology (women being incentivized to be more discriminating and men incentivized to be less), I think scarcity is what leads many men to view sex a certain way. When something is difficult to get then it creates this sort of insecure backdrop. But men, put in the position and role to be breadwinners and strong providers have also been conditioned and encouraged to suppre…

Yeah it’s extra confusing for neurodivergent individuals who tend to think or take things literally as well. Makes the world less accessible.

Very insightful comment.

I’ve always been unsure how to navigate things if/when one of us develops feelings. Usually it is her that develops feelings for me, and then idk how to smooth things out without hurting her or losing the friendship. But I have had some great age gap friendships with women twice my age, lessening the risk, that have been great.

Basically what your argument rests upon is separating social status from one’s occupation and income. What I am saying is that for all intents and purposes that is not really a thing. It’d be like me saying looks don’t matter but superior genetics that indicate health and fertility do.

Riiiight - and that’s why social status is a main factor of attraction for most women.

I actually agree with you 100% - I am kinda of arguing from an angle I don’t hold myself. The understanding you are expressing is very rare though, but I think it’s true. Our society values conformity and being agreeable and liked far too much, and it restricts us along with other people’s potential projections should we choose to love ourselves and accept ourselves more than others are comfortable doing for themselves.

Yeah I get ya. The equivalent might be a woman who is beautiful without being vain or caring a lot about her appearance and makeup etc. What do you think? I do wanna offer a question about the man who doesn’t “move for anybody” - does that possibly make him unempathic or undesirably narcissistic? Seems like it might boil down to the asshole / nice guy double bind. It’s like “don’t care what other people think, except for me.” I’ve also seen this play out how women “test” guys on this trying to s…

It might be something further down the line maybe of factors perhaps. But like would a woman rather date a gas station attendant or a CEO, you tell me

Interesting comment. It’s kinda like saying “a winner doesn’t care about being a winner, they only just win” or something like that. Like it’s an attitude. I think there’s something to that, but there are many men who don’t reference the social hierarchy in terms of their own self-esteem but that doesn’t mean they will be perceived as high value men. It’s kinda like you have to still have all the (toxic) masculine traits but not appear to care about having them (is sort of what you’re implying I…

Is it possible that women are more physically, mentally and emotionally attracted to a guy the more social status he has? Maybe “social status” isn’t the way it’s conceptualize, but it’s subconsciously a pretty accurate factor/predictor of attraction.

Interesting experiment! I’d be kinda curious to put myself in the mix if there is a next time. If anyone is bored and wants to dm me I can drop a couple pics there too. I’ve been off social media and online dating for 2-3 years now and idk how I match up.

I don’t know enough about history to comment on revolutions. I just find it useful to acknowledge we are in one and that’s why things are so hard in many ways. Idk if I know a better relationship model per se, but I think the beginnings of one can be pieced together between Harville Hendricks & Hellen Hunts work and Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks and then what Alan de Bottom describes in “why you will marry the wrong person.” Basically we need to educate people how love works and trauma works and get…

So you are saying that anybody in a position of social power is likely to use it to have NSA sex and generally avoid commitment? I mean, yes, social power usually helps you attract potential partners and get laid if you want. I think the point to explain perhaps lies in the discrepancy between the amount of criticism men get for abusing power when the ways that women do it are actually encouraged or seen as empowerment. It seems hypocritical and splinters trust on the side of the gender that is …

One of the key points and factors here is that men suffer more from being single because of being conditioned in ways that discourage the kinds of vulnerability that is necessary to have supportive empathic relationships outside of a romantic relationship. I can remember times in my life where I was thought of as odd because I prioritized my friendships as a man. I eventually caught onto things - that others, often times women, viewed my emotional connectedness as odd or a weakness or something …

I’m a guy in my late 20’s, and I can fully relate and agree with your approach. I also grew up religious and then became “spiritual” over time. Agree with the energy exchange and character trait correlations. It’s like not about being sex negative or judging others but like wondering what traits a person has or will/won’t have in common with me if they are that different from me in terms of how many partners they’ve had. It’s more about character compatibility. I probably won’t get along with so…

I (an occasional lurker of this sub), for one, appreciate this thoughtful comment. It is refreshing to hear some acknowledgement of these dynamics which most women I perceive are painfully ignorant of. As far as the paradox with mens self-esteem, I think we are conditioned to be in a double bind. Women tend to be repulsed by a man who cares too much about what she thinks and yet also repulsed by a man who cares too little. I guess its what is called the asshole/nice guy double blind. Commenting …

I have always felt gaslighted by these dynamics because it begs the questions as to if I either: 1.) Overestimate my league/rank (which I am always vigilant towards since I hear it’s so common for men to do) or… 2.) There’s some way the game is rigged and the cards are stacked against me such that I can’t actually find an equal match. Over time I’ve been more lead to believe the latter is more the case. I’ve never really had much of a motive of wanting to complain or be a victim, I’ve just wante…

I am a conflict facilitator and there is one model we use in the particular modality I studied - it basically delineates between what we call a “phase 2” and a “phase 3” which I think is helpful. Phase 2 is when people are in conflict and see the other as separate from themselves. Phase 3 starts to happen when people begin to see the other as a part of themselves. But with systemic world issues, esp. if a person has trauma around them, it can take a lot of personal work to move from phase 2 to 3…

I have a somewhat “reverse” problem or take on this admittedly: the few odd times a woman does compliment me and is friendly etc., I try to interpret it as conservatively as possibly so as to make complimenting men more “safe.” The downside is that if a woman is potentially flirting with me, I appear daft or relatively standoffish even if I were to know that she is actually flirting I might reciprocate it.. Women also tend to flirty very subtly already too for the reasons of the OP’s topic.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some women semi-consciously lean into this critique of men in order to get a leg up in a way as to potentially setting up the value they might bring into a man’s life. Yet, moreover, I think how we parse self-sufficient with low maintenance and with self-neglect is probably most relevant as these are POV’s. As one commenter posted, yes men who are married live longer and are happier etc. I understand this to be a benefit of companionship foremost and perhaps secondaril…

Yeah that is the sort of dichotomy I’m getting at yeah. Yes and no to the plenty of women. I find a big discrepancy between online dating apps and women irl. I think it’s due to the value inflation women get on dating apps - basically all of em feel they can shoot 4 points above their own score.

Eh, don’t really have a pointed point. Semi-agreeing with you and just providing data points from my own experience. Just about the confusion as to how a guy can be good looking but is considered attractive relative to other more external details about career and money which may or may not be apparent depending on the context a woman sees you in.

Probably most men don’t understand how much effort it takes women to achieve their look. On the other hand, I don’t think a man will get as much ROI for working on their looks. Idk women that get to know me tell me I’m an 8 or 9 looks-wise, but generally this doesn’t matter so much as whether a woman knows me or if she knows I am still building my career (saving and invest smart while going to grad school) and live with family at the moment. It tends to feel I am evaluated more for the latter as…

To the OP - just depends on context I think. The list is reasonable if the person making it offers a similar amount of desirable traits in turn. The list in unreasonable if not. There are women who have unreasonable standards relative to what they offer due to value or self-esteem inflation on the internet. That is, it’s very easy for women to overestimate their bargaining chips because our online age is very image-based and sort of snowballs the usual valuation of women to be higher than what i…
