I think some people are missing the message here. The message is that this isn't an uncommon occurence. The severity of this is unusual, but constant harassment and entering personal space isn't. Women have to actively think about stuff like this (shown by the references to the book, fake ring, and making a note to talk to her friends about it like it is a common occurrence) while men mostly don't. They have to think about physical violence, and a lot of times (especially on public transportatio…

I've had male waiters at the Waffle House and Sonic. They do seem to be mostly women though. I don't think I've seen many female cooks but I never really notice the cooks anyway.

As has been said earlier in the topic men and women TRY to commit suicide a lot, women more than men. Men just succeed at it more. If I had to make a completely uneducated guess it has to do with a culture where bigger stronger things are manly. Women tend to take pills or other poison while men use guns (at least in America where guns are easy to get, not sure what the difference is in other countries) The question is how do we get men to speak up more about it and make it so their problems are…

Every group you can think of has probably contributed to humanity's development overall, but don't get it twisted, men have been the ones really in power for most of history as we know it.

I agree, it doesn't really matter. Trying to assign blame and go back into history to do it doesn't solve anything. My point is that when trying to assign blame for certain things you have to think who has run the world for thousands of years. It hasn't been women, I will tell you that.

Which is the financial abortion right? I want to be clear that I'm barking up the right tree here.

...Is feminism even concerned with helping men? Is the MRA movement concerned with helping women? I thought the titles were pretty self evident.

And religion. And which gender was the one who thought this up culturally in the U.S. and who is in charge of the religions that codify this? There is definitely an argument to be made that a lot of the issues affecting men today weren't put into place or propagated by women.

That took awhile to find. Here's a permalink for those who want it Thank you for pointing it out to me, that was a fairly obvious derail and had nothing to do with the question at hand, male circumcision. It didn't even have to do with the country that was being discussed (America). I concede the point that there are derails. Maybe it is that I haven't been looking close enough at MR threads to notice derails like that, but I will be paying more attention in the future.

LOL, OK. I think you're arguing for financial abortion is why I brought up the biological differences thing, if you're not please correct me. You think men should be able to have sex, have a kid, then just deny that kid support if they don't want them. That ignores the reason why abortion is legal in the first place (the right to bodily integrity) and shows something about the maturity level of the person making the argument (you are not taking responsibility for your actions, you're perfectly O…

For the suicide thing are you talking about sunshineyes? That was a slight derail, still partially relevant since it offers a explanation of the difference in suicide rates (women attempt it more but for some reason suck at it), but it wasn't a full on derail. I'm not seeing the derail regarding circumcision, could you maybe point out a comment in particular? I can understand you saying that you have never seen this happen purely and exclusively if you've never seen any discussion on these topic…

Yes. Women do not have to make those choices, why should men have to? Her body, her choice, HER RESPONSIBILITY. Want men to be 'responsible' too? Give them the same choices women have. Yes, they do. They have more choices, but they do have to make choices. It is just as possible for a man to lie and say he is wearing a condom or has had a vascetomy, women are just biologically different in that since they have to carry the baby they have final say or whether it lives or dies until it is born.

For you to sit here and say that every guy ever should always wear condoms each and every time he has sex is ridiculous and sexist. How is this sexist? If men want absolute control over their sexual destiny your options are to do something to protect yourself. Some of it can be making sure your partner is stable and trust worthy. The other part is protecting yourself by using birth control like vascetomys or condoms. This is part of being a responsible adult, like buying car insurance and eating …

Someone give me an example where this has happened. Seriously, I have never seen a discussion of men's issues derailed by women coming in and talking about abortion or female genital mutilation. Me thinks that some people are getting a little offended at the (mostly accurate) accusation that a lot of threads relating to a woman or women's issues get derailed by men's issues.

As has already been stated a few times in this topic, both of them are male fantasys, one what men find attractive in women, the other what men would like to look like/find attractive in men. Street Fighter isn't that bad compared to other media because even fighters like Cammy and Chun Li aren't usually that skimpily dressed (especially nowadays, a one piece swimsuit looking thing is almost modest) and the women don't look particularly helpless. One thing you'll frequently see in fiction is tha…

Fair enough, and I respect the civility of the discussion if nothing else. Men not being able to have children does not mean they have no right in the decision of whether the child should be born or not. They do, but their decision options pretty much end once the sperm leaves the body IMO since they can't force a woman to have an abortion, and as I've said before the idea of the "financial abortion" is a shortsighted and spiteful move that hurts only the child. There are arguments to made that …

Your point about biological differences is irrelevant in this argument. While I agree they must be accounted for, our current laws propagate created social gender inequalities and try to pass them as biological ones. ...But they are biological differences. Men can't have children, thus they have no right over whether the child is born or not. Abandoning a child via "financial abortion" is a selfish and immoral act (thus IMO) and is extremely short sighted and thus shouldn't be allowed because it…

I definitely agreed with the first one (anyone living with their parents past the age of 21 who isn't in school and it isn't for a cultural reason has a problem) but that includes both men and women. The other's were kind of lol. Although I do kind of agree with the help with bags/lifting but that is because men are generally stronger than women. But just the same if there is a small space that needs to be wiggled through (like a hole in a fence or something, if for some reason you need to do th…

First find out if it is your child. If it is, then no real choice about it, it is your responsibility. Due to obvious biological differences you don't have a choice once the sperm leaves your body. You don't want a kid? Don't have sex. Want to have sex? Get a vasectomy. Don't want to have a vasectomy? Accept that other forms of birth control aren't 100%. Women don't have a choice to menstruate, men don't have a choice once the sperm leaves their body. Don't be spiteful, realize this is your kid …

Not everything is going to be equal. There are biological differences between men and women that (right now) can't be overcome. Women are the only ones who can carry children, men can't menstrate. These are facts. So the argument for abortion makes sense (no one can tell a person what to do or house in their body). But once you have a kid, you have a kid. A "financial" abortion just hurts the child and is extremely shortsighted and spiteful IMO. Just like women have to think about menstration me…

Why do either of these movements have to help each other? For fucks sake, look at the name. Mens rights, feminism. Yes both of these movements can help each other, but if they don't, that doesn't mean there is a problem with that movement. It is hard for people to care about everything or things that don't concern them. The hope is that with everyone looking out for their own self interest as hard as they can we end up at a place that benefits as many people as possible.

I've never understood how people thought it was anything different. Obviously there is a limit (if you aren't concious) and even a gray area (black out drunk, blackout drunk meaning you stop making memories but are seemingly awake and aware) but I've never taken drunk as being an excuse. I've had a good amount of experience being drunk, it will change your priorities and reduce the time between thinking something and doing something, but you don't just start doing stuff you don't want to do. I'm…

Unless men start being able to carry a child to term and birth them, no. The argument for abortion is that no one has the right to control someone else's body but them. There are biological differences between men and women, it isn't ever going to be "equal" in that regard. Do you want me to menstrate too? Wouldn't that make it "fair"? As far financial abortion is concerned it sounds good at first blush, but it is just spiteful and ends up hurting the baby in the long run. You aren't (just) deny…

At the risk of incorrectly explaining something I know very little about and explaining something that is already known: SRS is not for debate. If you come in there asking "Why is this wrong" or "Why is this offensive" 9 times out of 10 you're not going to have a good experience. SRS is a rant space against what they see is the shittiness of Internet culture and reddit in general. It is bizarro reddit almost, lots of memes and circlejerking and just like someone who came into another subreddit a…

It is an interesting discussion, I'm just not sure how it matters. Like anything rape is about a multitude of things, it is obviously about sex but in the case of war rapes or rape in prison it is also about violence and control. But it seems like going around in circles about it doesn't really solve anything. There are certain types of rape (date rape mostly, which IMO is mostly about sex rather than power) that can be lessened with more education and coversation but there are other types of ra…

Have you ever lived in an expensive city? I mean, Manhattan-level expensive? No, most expensive place I've lived is Northern VA and DC. Saying "they aren't worth the time" is just naive, because there's a new off-broadway show every goddamn week, a restaurant that has a month-long waiting list on practically every street corner, a hugely popular nightlife which can drain even the biggest bank accounts, and crazy new activities popping up all the time. Someone who expects you to pay for everythin…

And that's a good way to never date in high-class circles. If this "high class" then fuck it, don't date high class people". If that is what they think, they probably aren't worth the time. Should we simply abandon "chivalry"? What will we put in its place to manage the oft-unstated transactional nature of dating? Exactly, abandon it. What should be put in its place is equality. It should never be an expectation to pay for anything or do anything just based on gender. If one person makes more th…

The solution is simple: Stop being dumbasses who will pay for a $200 bottle of wine or an expensive meal on the first date with someone who you've met online (and know nothing about) and if you insist, stop thinking that paying for a meal means you need sex. Seriously, go to a movie, go to a cheap eat in resturant, go to bar, don't be a dumbass. If the woman balks at this, then good that just means you've weeded out a bad one and have saved yourself unneeded expense, wasted time, and drama.

True, it is censorship. Not sure why I felt so strongly that it wasn't really, weird... There was no legal or threatened legal action from the post in question. You don't close an entire park because a drug dealer used it to sell drugs a single time. This is not a valid analogy, jailbait wasn't a park it was part of the park and they shut that part down so they could keep running the whole park. It's like shutting down a store in a mall or a wing of a library or something. I also still argue you…

We may have to agree to disagree. Jailbait was always borderline, teetering on legality as it is. And it was a fairly big "black" mark on reddit, something they didn't want to be known for but let exist due to their feelings on self moderation and freedom of speech. But you can't fuck around with CP, that is a real easy way to bring a whole lot of unwanted publicity and legal trouble on a legit site, this isn't 4Chan reddit isn't run by one guy who seems to revel in controversy. I don't blame re…

Seriously? The thread in question was a huge issue for reddit and could have brought a lot of bad press and legal issues for reddit, they were smart to just get rid of it all together. Seeing how there are so many other jailbait type subreddits that don't have the same level of controversy and are thusly left alone I think you're barking up the wrong tree with that.

The straw that broke the camel's back was that actual CP was being requested and possibly sent in one topic. With the scrutiny from the Cooper story it was shut down as it should have been. Far as I know the other similar subreddits haven't been touched because they aren't popular and because there haven't been similar incidents.

This article is so stupid that I am half thinking (or hoping rather) that it is satire. If nothing else it does put a percentage on men who are raising kids who aren't there own (4%). But with the lack of reasoning in that article who knows if that figure is accurate.

...Touche, salesman. Looks like people (it does specify women so I'm curious if they would be so accommodating to a man) can leave their 3-14 day old kid at a hospital or fire station without any questions. That is...disturbing.

A woman who births a child can literally drop it off at a fire station and walk away with no consequence, 100% legal. This sounds...not true. Do you have a link for this? Closest thing I can think of in recent memory was there was a state that allowed any parent to just abandon their child with no consequence but I think that law was changed.

Isn't bodily autonomy...bodily autonomy, not just "not having to do something you don't want to do"? No one has the right to tell anyone what they do with their body and what is inside it. Women have to carry children so they have the right to abortion. But once the kid is alive and out it isn't an issue of bodily autonomy, it is a life both parents are responsible for. If men could carry children to term this argument would make sense, but I don't see it in this case.

Honestly the cops were right. If the situation is getting that out of control, to where you have to try and lock the other person in the room or hide in the closet (which makes this sound fake BTW) you need to leave the situation. Crash at a friend's, get a hotel, hell sleep in your car if you got to. But leave and then come back when the situation is calm and deal with it. That being said, sorry to hear that. IMO that is self defense not abuse. Hope the situation works out for you.
