If you watch chimps or bonobos it's very difficult to tell their sex by studying behaviour. Male chimps are more aggressive than female chimps and female chimps are more motherly but generally speaking, chimp is chimp. The sexual differences are not very drastic and the untrained eye wouldn't be able to tell.
