Sverdlovsk Oblast / Ekaterinburg I'm already in a quite large city [ 1.3 M inhabitants ]. And no, salary hardly better than in a city with population 300.000 or 500.000 people. For the biggest salary in Russia you go in Moscow or Saint Petersburg. It will be x2-3 times bigger salaries then anywhere inside the country.

500$ / ~30.000 rubles yes. It's considered that if you earn 50.000 rubles (~800$) a month here you live well. Not a long time ago there was a survey - "what is the amount of money you consider a good sum for your work". Almost nobody says more than 75.000 rubles ( ~1200$ ). The amount of surveyed participants was close to 100.000

I chose not the best path to making money. I should have learned something useful like code writing and it is about time to start doing so. Which will also allow me to get a job outside Russia. Sucks it takes not less than 2 - 3 year to be competitive on the field. But there is nothing I can do about it. Gotcha

It's good to see progress in payment throughout time. In Russia systems like that are in very rudimentary state. You get a job, sigh the contract with fixed for years digits and that's it for the most professions no matter how demanded they are. Most likely you won't see a raise in your salary at all until you find another job with higher started salary. And then another one with once again higher started salary. Usually it's a small rise 20% each time once in 4 years or so.

Costs are indeed less than in the UK especially than in London. Expenditure I would say is around 85-90% of monthly income on essentials when you rent not a very expensive 250-300$ flat neither in the city center nor outskirts. If you don't rent expenses are dropped to 40-50% and you become a person with extra 250$ in pockets. Thank for sharing. I know it's not only about money but also about variety of options that you have. Just in Russia it's kinda unique in a bad way. You might have plethora but will end up having almost the same low wage that hardly differs. It kills the idea to try out something new.

The thing is you can learn the most useful profession in demand with tons of vacancies but anyway end up at best 800$ a month. Exceptions will be really only two cities Moscow and Saint Petersburg. There it is around 1500$ a month.
